  1. Question - I just bought a home last week and it is in my name now (I am moving from out of state (returning home after a long military career away from Texas if that has any bearing on my question). Today I went to the Montgomery County Tax office to file for my 100% Veterans disabled tax exemption to get the $2,210.00 in taxes back from the escort account the mortgage company took out. The lady who helped me said that I would not get any of that back because I bought the home AFTER January 2012 but would be exempt for the year 2013 so I am out $2210.00. I DO NOT think this is correct according to the law as described in section 11.131, it clearly states in section (b), " A disabled veteran who receives from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or its successor 100 percent disability compensation due to a service-connected disability and a rating of 100 percent disabled or of individual unemployability is entitled to an exemption from taxation of the total appraised value of the veteran's residence homestead". So my question is - Do I owe the $2210.00 of this year or should I be receiving an exempt letter from Montgomery County to present to the mortgage company to receive the $2,210.00 back?
