Hi. My father, who served 29 years in the Army and is a Vietnam Vet (with 4 of those being Navy) passed away on April 26th, 2012. My mother is still alive and having trouble with getting her survivor benefits. My question is how long does it take for the VA to actually take care of its service mens families after there death? My mom currently has no source of income and the VA tells her that it takes time to get her benefits IF she even gets any. She has done everything they asked of her. The VA has even taken what money my mom had in her bank without any warning or explanation of why they took it! Can someone please tell us where we turn now? Mom has not been able to pay her bills or even buy groceries with my help. I can not beleive that the Governement treats its military families so poorly. My dad gave his life and my mom supported and gave hers as well just to be treated so poorly! Please help.
