  1. They call HBP the silent killer. Long term organ damage is the worst effect IMO because you don't know it until it happens. Stroke is the other bad effect. You can feel fine and be one step from the grave.
  2. You should get Housebound SMC for those two ratings I think. If you have 100% plus 60% then that is good for HB. With two 100% ratings that should be good if not a technical thing. The HB must be for a new and distinct rating over 60%. They should have awarded the HB if you are eligible.
  3. I just had my HBP claim service connected due to AO exposure. I have the big three....heart condition, diabetes and HBP due to AO. I would file on all three if I had them. Many times you may not even know you have heart disease until you have a heart attack. I found out about CAD after getting a CT scan of my leg. Even if you have a zero rating for HBP it can lead to heart attack and stroke. These conditions are all interrelated.
  4. You can file for PN if you have SC'ed diabetes due to AO exposure. That is how I got my service connection for PN.
  5. I think the best place to go for continuity of symptoms is getting treatment at the VA. The care is not wonderful but they do document symptoms in detail. Just go and complain your head off because they will document all that stuff. I wish I had started going to the VA for treatment as soon as I got out of the army. I had lots of things I could have filed on but 30 years later "no continuity of symptoms".
  6. You can work on that 50% and get to 70%-100% if you play your cards right. Also any physical disabilites will be added to your overall rating such as your sleep apnea etc.
  7. I went after mine, but I got low balled and just accepted that as some kind of justice. Little did I know that VA did not include crucial evidence. I trusted the system and got screwed. I did not appeal back in 1973, so I got 10% for a condition that should have gotten 100%. No one told me to appeal especially not my VSO. It was just a mess in those days. It is still a mess.
  8. There are vets out there who think filing a claim with the VA is a sign of weakness. I have talked to guys like that and I shake my head. I tell these guys that if they don't file and get compensation someone possibly less deserving with get it.

    ChampVA

If your spouse has ChampVA and you die does the spouse continue to be entitled to ChampVA between the time you die and the time your widow gets DIC? It might take a year for your spouse to get DIC so what happens between times?
  10. Those who persist win the battle even if takes a few years. Just be sure to appeal the ratings you get if you don't think they are correct. If you don't appeal and win years later on a new claim you won't get the backpay you deserve.
  11. I got 40% on both feet and 40% and 30% for upper extremities. All this evolved from a C&P exam. You just can't tell until you get your decision. How did your C&P exam go? I thought mine went pretty well, but I did not expect to go from 10% to 40%. I actually wanted an increase in my DMII claim which did involve PN. I was pretty shocked that I got such a high rating for my extremities. If they low ball you be sure to file an appeal. Try to get another exam. You never know how incompetent the next one might be to your advantage. I have no idea how the VA can determine that a person is 40% for PN as opposed to 10%. My exams were extremely basic. No high tech but just the exam nurse looking me over.
  12. My DAV VSO used to hide from his clients. I fired him immediately and do my claims myself.
  13. What is the exam? Do they pull on your ding dong?
  14. OWCP does the same sloppy thing with so-called lumbar strain. If you have a herniated disc that is not lumbar strain. Strains don't usually require surgery to fix.
  15. Yes, I did not know I would be so broken down due to my service. I would not have volunteered if I had known it would be like this. When you are 19 you are not thinking about consequences 50 years down the line. Nobody protected us from unnecessary injury or illness.
  16. I wanted the scooter to be able to navigate the VAMC in Tampa. It is a mighty long walk to get to the hospital in summer. I use the store scooter when I shop at Publix. My feet are so bad I can't stand for more than a few minutes without real pain. I got 40% for each foot. I know I got to keep walking if possible. I guess if I lost about 50 lbs. I would not be in such pain, but the bad feet led to the weight gain and vice-versa. I have PN as well.
  17. The military and VA owe you more than they can ever repay! What you went through is just awful. Someone needs to be held accountable. Did you sue the cardiologist that prescribed the drug that caused the problems with gangrene?
  18. You could probably get SMC "S" if you have TDIU plus an extra 80%. I would file for SC on the HCC.
  19. Where did the gangrene start on your body? I assume it was your feet. That is what killed my mother.
  20. Do you take insulin? I was off my diabetic meds thinking my A1C was not that bad. It got bad in a hurry. Now I am on insulin and metformin. I ended up in intensive care when my sugar went crazy. It can happen in a few months.
  21. Some vets with PTSD gamble with their lives. The first few years I was back I must have had ten car wrecks. I did risk my life and I did not know why.
  22. The CUE concept of being an "Undebatale" error is really tricky. Also the concept of "reasonable minds" means the VA minds. What exactly does "undebatable mean to the VA? I think it means whatever they want it to mean. What might be undebatable and reasonable to the vet is in no way the same thing to the VA. You got to really have your ducks in a row to succeed in many CUE claims. I lost a CUE that was so plain I thought an idiot could see it. I was wrong because idiots protecting their money bags did not see it.
  23. Berta was a real expert with CUE's. She did many over the death of her husband. If you are really good at it you could probably make a living doing them for others. CUE's to me are like SMC law where it is so tricky most VA reps don't even understand them. I don't think most lawyers understand them either. My lawyer did not really understand my CUE. He was using legal standards like for SSA. The VA fooled him with "Reasonable Minds" and all that hogwash.
  24. If I was still getting TDIU I would not think about working any job where I get a W-2 or 1099. If you can find something in the underground economy where you don't leave a trace for IRS, SSA or the VA then that might be ok. Before I got 100% I used to buy and sell collectables. I had a lot of fun going to actions and sales. Everything was on a cash basis. If you get all the benefits of TDIU and being P&T I would try everything else first before working at all. I don't advocate breaking the law but nobody says you have to dumb about it. Now I make most of my money from passive income which does not count towards TDIU or SSA.
