  1. Anyone know why I would receive a final decision packet with my claim being closed, found 100% permanent and Total. But to date I still have not received a dime, nor has there been an AB8 letter uploaded that I can use for state benefit applications. I have the AB3 for commissary which I dont need because I am a retiree with that priviledge anyway. My local congressman is inquiring on my behalf as to why I havent received even the monthly entitlement yet and no pending payment for July either. No answer yet back from the VA on that one, but I read how everyone finds out thier decision on the AB8 letter even before getting the brown envelope, but my claim has been complete for 2 months now but I still dont have an AB8 letter. Any Ideas on any of this? Why no monthly pay, and why no AB8 letter? I talked to DFAS today and they to date have not received any notification on my disability level award, again 2 months after the claim was closed. Very very frustrating.
  2. I have another request into IRIS, this will be my third IRIS request. The last response I got was that my claim is closed and it is with the Buffalo office being "processed".
  3. I can relate to what you are going through. Menieres ended my career but I was med boarded out because I was already at 23 plus years. The Navy allowed me to sit idle for my remaining 8 months to finish my tour and retire at 24 years. I wouldnt wish Menieres on my worst enemy. It consumes my life. It took the VA about 23 months to complete my disability claim but when all was said and done I was rated at 100%. Good luck and thankyou for your service.
  4. Thanks for the info Berta. It is just frustrating when you call the VA and the person on the phone is bewildered along with you why they havent even started the monthly entitlement pay and cant give you an answer as to what the Eligibility Determination claim is all about and who initiated it. I would fall under CRDP as I am a retiree (24 years). I know nothing moves quick in government however I would have thought that DFAS would have at least been notified of the disability determination a month and a half later after they close the claim. Guess it is just more hurry up and wait. Just hate falling deeper and deeper in debt as I wait because I am unable to work.
  5. I would agree with all that posted here. I retired in August of 2011 and I too was diagnosed with Menieres late in my career. I had a laundry list of issues from my tours in the desert which were all rated separately and my Menieres was rated 100% permanent and total. Best advise I can give you now other than to get everything well documented is that when your filling out your compensation package, DO NOT and I repeat, DO NOT check the box that reads that you choose to receive retirement in lieu of disability. Not sure why they even have that box in there but that is the situation I am in now. Final decision made in April 2013 and I have yet to see a penny because of that box that was checked..If you want the lay down on what I went through with the C&P exam with a the VA doctors for the menieres, drop me an e-mail at macduncanusn@gmail.com.
  6. I need some help from those more knowledgeable. Here is my issue time line: Retire July 2011 due to medical injury issues (24 years service) Filed with VA for disability August 2011. Claim 1/2 complete in March 2013 rated 50% with items deferred. Sent in my election to receive Compensation Form VA21-651 April 1st as requested so they could start monthly compensation. No disability pay received May 1st. Remainder of claim complete and closed April 20th 2013, Rated at 100% permanent and Total. No pay received in June. New claim opened up 20 May 2013 labeled (Eligibility determination) Called DFAS twice and they have never received anything from the VA reporting my disability level as indicated in the paperwork I received from VA in March and in April. VA says there is no financial account opened up under my SSN and there is no determination when I will be paid my monthly compensation. What is this eligibility determination claim all about???? How long does this one take???? I am at my wits end.... No wonder we have so many suicides with returning service members if this is the battle we have to face when thrown into civilian life. __________________ MAC(SW/AW) Russell S. Duncan, USN RET
