I processed out of Ft Knox when I retired from the Army after 24yrs. The DAV assisted with my initial claim and the resident expert looked through my medical records and recommended my claim include fibroid tumors and depression/anxiety. He thought I would get 10%. I subsequently received 30%. I was happy since I anticipated 10%.
I than worked at Veterans Affairs as a Claims Assistant. I did this for two years and inputted a ton of claims. I learned much and also seen insomnia awarded on approval letters. When I quit the VA, I reopened my claim and listed insomnia. This is where I went from 30% to 70% disability.
I was than eligible for IU. It took me a year to submit this, cause I didn't believe I would qualify. Especially after hearing about the large number of claims disapproved. I honestly felt though I was unemployable and the VA saw it that way too and I got approved.
I'm grateful how things worked out for me and want to thank the Veterans Service office as well. I only hope more veterans use this site and gain knowledge and not rely on one person/organization. I shared with a mother today this site knowing her son is entitled to disability pay. Also a kudos to the VA, I know personally how hard the majority of the personnel work and care.
