  1. Hey guys, I'm 100% from VA for Psychosis(nos) and General Anxiety Disorder. I first applied for ssd in January. I went and saw one of their docs, and when i presented him with my story, a letter from my VA doc and a summary report from a navy doc, he agreed with the diagnosis. That was in May. My case with SSD got moved from one claims adjudicator to another. This woman I have now told me that all I had to do was have my mom complete a survey (since i listed her as a third party), and the day after she got the survey back should would tell me my decision. The survey was returned to her, and now she says shes waiting on my VA medical records. She said she realizes I went to see their (ssd's) doc but that she was trying to get a "more longitudinal view" of the disability.. whatever that means. Anybody have any feedback on what I should do next? Should I get the VA to mail me a copy of my records and then forward that to social security?
  2. well they called about 20 minutes after they said they would, and they used a blocked id to make the call so i didnt even answer. im DEFINATELY not gonna give information to somebody trying to hide their number from me.
  3. Hey guys Thanks for all the responses. I looked over those links and your responses and am very reluctant to give over much of any information at all. they don't seem to be "pro veteran" in my eyes. its 12:30 now, theyre suppose to be calling for the survey in a half hour. I'll let you know how it goes.
  4. Hey josephine, thanks for the reply no, im not in any kind of appeals process. i just googled the phone number that i called them back at (1-800-795-1888) and found through google that number belongs to the The Veterans' Disability Benefits Commission. From what i gather from their website, this is independent of the VA and wont have any weight on my benefits. edit: the website is www.vetscommision.org
  5. Hey guys I got a phone call from the BVA tonight. The woman was talking so fast that I couldn't decipher what it stood for and could hardly make out what she was saying, but what I did get was that they were conducting a phone survey about my service connected disability. I scheduled them to call back tomorrow so I could get youre help first. Before I blow this off as no big deal I want to find out if this is normal and what kind of implications it will have on my benefits. What is the BVA? are they attached to the VA? Thanks Guys
  6. I'm in the same boat as you, 100% from the VA. I called the social security people and they set me up an appointment at my local office. there they explained to me that SSI is more a welfare type program for people with no income, taxable or not. the 100% from the VA made me (and im assuming everyone else) ineligible for SSI. you can still get ssdi though, like all these other guys have already explained. good luck.
  7. Hey guys I was in boot camp in the fall of 2002, and I'll tell you there is NO SMOKING WHATSOEVER by recruits. The only hint of nicotene you could get would be private contractors working on the base infastructure, just a whif of second hand smoke will marching around. Talk at the time was that the navy was trying to completely smoke free by 2007. That was five years ago. When I was in, they were constantly promoting smoking cessation programs. There is also only certain places on bases where smoking is permitted. You can't just smoke wherever you want when youre outside. I will say that in some cases, smoking is the only way to get a break on a work day. I was on a submarine, and when we were in port you couldnt smoke in the sub, it was only permitted on the pier. so smokers could go up there and relax for 15 minutes. but if you WERENT a smoker, you shouldnt have been seen on the pier, because you look like youre just ducking out of work. I know thats when I started to smoke heavy.
  8. Is there a website or online resource that lists which political candidates are supported by veterans based on pro-veteran policies/agendas? A local congressman had lawn signs all over the place that said "Veterans support...Mike McGheehan" and I wonder who else we support.
  9. I was med. ret. on May 1, 2005. In June 2005, I got my 100% findings letter from the VA, and July 1 i had my first deposit. I was told by the VA person when I was setting up my initial direct deposit that my July 1 payment is essentially my benefits for the previous month, which would have been June 2005. for the month of May I only received my navy retirement check of like $700. Should I have received backpay from the VA for the short month of may minus the navy payment? Seems like they owe me $1600 (based on the 05 rates), or does the VA not consider paying someone for the month that their med. retirement happened? Scott
