Stetson Vet Clinic's Achievements

  1. My name is Mary and I am a student volunteer at Stetson Law Veterans Advocacy Clinic, which provides free help to veterans trying to get disability benefits from the VA. I am trying to find information for a client about drinking water being brought to Bogue Field from Camp Lejeune, particularly during the early 1980s. Do any of you have information or evidence of this, or were involved in actually transporting the water from Lejeune? If you have any info, please feel free to contact me at vetclinic@law.stetson.edu or call at (727)562-7374. Thanks for any help in advance!
  2. Oorah Devil Dogs, A little about me first, I was discharged from the Marine Corps in 2012. While in service, I was an aviation ordnance technician and embassy security guard. I am currently a law school student working at a veterans advocacy clinic that provides pro bono services for veterans trying to get disability compensation from the VA. I'm helping a veteran who was stationed in Motor T at Cherry Point. He suffers from cancer that we believe he got from drinking the water at Camp Lejuene during his trips there. I am looking for some veterans who were stationed at Cherry Point from 1978-1983 who have knowledge about the tasks Motor T executed during that time frame, specifically relating to the travel from Cherry Point to Camp Lejuene as part of Motor T's daily operations. I just want to get some information on Motor T's operational requirements to drive to and from Camp Lejuene. If you can help me help this terminally ill veteran he would greatly appreciate it.
  3. My name is Cameron, and I am a law student at Stetson University College of Law. I work in the Veterans Advocacy Clinic at Stetson, which provides free help to veterans trying to get their disability benefits from the VA. The Clinic uses student interns, like me, to do research on behalf of the veterans. Our job is to find the information that the VA needs, so that they can provide an accurate disability rating for the veteran. I am currently working on an appeal where we need some help finding testimony that would support the claim of one of our clients. I am working with a veteran who has developed Multiple Sclerosis as a result of handling a pesticide called Cygon. He was stationed as a naval corpsman (medic) at the naval base in Eleuthera, Bahamas, sometime between 1967 and 1969. Part of his job duties included spraying pesticides around the base. The Clinic has been able to find some evidence that chemicals in Cygon can lead to development of Multiple Sclerosis, but we have not yet found any evidence that Cygon was ever used at the naval base in Eleuthera, Bahamas. We have contacted the DoD pesticide agency and they say they don’t have records that go back that far. We are looking for anyone who has knowledge of what corpsmen did from 67-69 at the naval base in Eleuthera, Bahamas? Did you serve as a naval corpsman then or know someone who did? Do you remember ever seeing anyone spraying pesticides at the naval base in Eleuthera, Bahamas? Do you have a copy of the corpsman training manual from that time period? Did you do any record keeping of what chemicals were ordered in the Bahamas or work for the entomologist on that installation? Do you have any information that could help guide me in the right direction? Please feel free to contact me if you have any information regarding Eleuthera or Cygon. I’m easiest to reach at vetclinic @law.stetson.edu or you can call at 727-562-7324. Thanks in advance for helping this veteran.
  4. Wow! This is an amazing number of replies in one day. I won't be able to respond to everyone individually because of the volume, but I'll try to provide some more helpful information. The first thing we did was request his entire military and medical record. No word yet whether they were lost in the fire, but they have our request and will get to it eventually. In the meantime we're trying to strengthen his case. We have good descriptions from him, but the best thing we can think of is getting him a buddy statement or finding a unit history that places him where he claims he was. His claim is for PTSD, arising from an undocumented assignment to protect a water tower over night. He was there more than once, but we can't place him there on paper (although we don't have the full record yet, we know that it reflects his Korea service but not his traumatic nights at the water tower). He provided us with photos and personal letters from his time in service, but they only help us place him in Korea. None of the pictures or correspondence make mention of these water towers. There were apparently many of them, so someone else must have had similar orders (documented or undocumented). Again, thank you SO MUCH for all of the helpful suggestions. I was not aware of the Korean War Project and will check that out now. I'm fairly familiar with the VA claims process, FOIA requests, etc., but I don't know a lot about the Korean conflict because most of our clients now are returning from service in the Middle East.
  5. Hey there! Thanks for the reply Buck. The first thing we did was request his entire military and medical record. No word yet whether they were lost in the fire, but they have our request and will get to it eventually. Thanks for your advice. If you think of anything further, don't hesitate to post again.
  6. I am a law student providing probono representation to a Korea War Veteran for his PTSD claim. I’m on here today because we need your help to finish the job. Our client’s orders do not show that he was stationed where he says he was. If you know someone who was in the Army’s 622 MP Company in/around February 1954, or who was familiar with assignments to protect/defend water towers in Korea, please contact me. You would be making a world of difference for a fellow Vet.
