  1. Thanks Betty!!! I have heard the same thing, locally by word of mouth from others, about the Roanoke DAV and Amvets. I hear good things about the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH). Thanks again. If you or anybody else has more info (including Vet Center quality), please let me know. I have been away from this claims process stuff for many years. JRiverman
  2. Has anyone had a good, bad or otherwise experience with the DAV, MOPH, VFW, etc service officers in Roanoke Virginia. I'm considering opening up a new claim and upgrading old SC ratings and don't want to hook up with an overworked or un-attentive SO. Also, any info on claim turn-around times in Roanoke to get a C&P and final decision would be great. Any input on your experiences would sure be appreciated!!! J. Riverman
  3. The VA needs to have a Question and Answer website that has "CONCRETE" information about 'disabilities and employment.' Riverman
  4. Jay, super info!!! Thank you so much. Does anyone know how the 3.327 stuff, or new and material evidence, applies to TDIU that has 20 year protection. In otherwords - If someone goes to the VA for care of a SC condition and the Primary Care or other doctor informally determines that it or "some other" SC condition has improved and enters data noting such - can that trigger a re-evaluation/C and P even though the 20 year protection rule applies? Is the DRO informed by computorized data entry of the percieved improvement and does 3.327 give that much leeway to the VA in re-exams, even when the SC condition/TDIU has 20 year protection? Sorry for the length of the question, thanks - Riverman
  5. If ED has been medically documented by the VA and connected to a service connected condition (or medication taken for that condition) do you have to go through a C and P to get the SMC of $87 per month. In other words - do you have to open up all your conditions for review in order to claim the ED and get the SMC? Or, is there some kind of short cut to avoid a full C and P for the ED? Riverman
  6. Dorothy, What reason did they give for scheduling the exam/proposed reduction? Or, in your opinion, what do you think triggered it? Also, are you working with a VSO from a service organization on this? It sounds to me like something is terribly wrong (on their end) if they have not given a sound reason why all this is happening. Riverman
  7. Thanks Namvet6567, Somehow that is how I thought it worked, otherwise the C-file would get a lot of travel miles for those of us who migrate from time to time, but still need VAMC medical care in the new locale. Riverman
  8. Okay. In regards to the "C-file" only. Is this correct??? It stays put in its home state unless you specifically request its relocation or you generate a claim from a state other than where the C-file is located. Getting medical treatment in another state will not cause your C-file to move. Riverman
  9. If you are PT, no future exams and have no claims pending and your C-File is in one state – and then you move to another state – and seek treatment at a VAMC, will they move your C-File without you requesting it. I hope not, especially if all you want is medical treatment and have no intention of opening up an existing claim or making a new one. Riverman
  10. Thanks Morgan ! I now know more about my condition!!! Riverman
  11. This site has a wealth of info on police/fire/rescue PTSD. A LOT of good info that applies to us all (vets)! Riverman http://www.rescue-workers.com/
  12. Thanks Wally, Such a deal??? I mean, even a card shark or a used car dealer could come up with a better deal or offer. Riverman
  13. To Whom-Who, Please post the link to the IE Spell Check download site. I sareched a round, butt ken knot lowkate the poest. I tink I nede itt. Thankst, Riverman :D
  14. Raven, $88 a month for Part B. A very good deal. I recently had an $85,000 heart attack. EVERYTHING was covered by Tricare for Life (kind of like Tricare and Medicare combined). No deductables or co-pays, etc.. My pharmacy costs which are for life, boils down to $3 or $9 dollars per 30 day prescription depending on whether it is generic or not if you use a commercial pharmacy. I believe it is even cheaper if you use the TFL/Express Scripts online or mail in ordering method. Regretfully, most of us are going to have ailments/mishaps (BIG and small) that we would not want the VA or an HMO type setup to handle. TFL covers the cost and NO forms for me to fill out! I just get a statement - that's it. Go for it friend. Riverman
  15. The happiest and healthiest Holidays to you all!!! Thanks to all the Hadit folks for all the wonderful and informative info. Riverman :)
  16. Me too Red! I'm pushing 60 and have been IU for over 30 years. Supposedly I have a 'protected' rating. If the golden check was to stop for just a couple of months I would have to file for bankruptcy and lose all the equity in my modest home, the car, etc.. Heck, I could try to get a little job and try to save the humble homestead but that would put me in the hospital and the ortho docs would finally get to take my 'good' leg. If I did have to get a job my SSDI would be in jepordy as well as the blessed Medicare that goes with it. I just had some heart surgery done at a top notch university hospital to the tune of $60,000 plus and it was all covered by Medicare. Yup, they stop my check and my whole world unravels real quick with the legs being the first thing to go and the ticker follows right behind. Somewhere along the way I would probably need some very expensive medical attention that the BEST VAMC could not provide. Who would foot the bill then??? Budget wise, I guess it would be cheaper to let me die - but, I'm a combat survivor and I don't die too well, especially when somebody is misusing their bureaucratic position to cancel out my existance. I have never been diagnosed with PTSD but I'm sure that I would get it inflicted on me by the jerks almost overnight (no fraud involved). Somehow I think this whole redo attempt by the VDBC will simply run out steam as the political opposition to it grows. Riverman ps - I just mailed in my $10 check and the enclosed paper Christmas decoration to the MOPH for the young troops coming back to the US hospitals. On it I wrote "You are my HERO! Thank you" Along time ago I decorated a tree on the ward with the cards and decos that got delivered. One of them said about the same thing and it really meant a lot. The handfull of un-patriots in congress need to get the message that you "thank" your heros, not yank them around. Let your reps know how you feel!!!
  17. Thanks everybody for all the Virginia info. I appreciate it. Aren't we lucky to have the HadIt website to share our info. Thanks again!!! Riverman ;)
  18. Seattle, Sorry about the jaw osteo. I've got it in the foot. Check out the medical-health forum as I just added a post there re: osteomyelitis. Riverman
  19. I've had osteo in the ankle joint and foot for over 30 years. Intermittently it flairs up pretty bad and I go on a run of antibiotics ( Ceftin for the last few years), debreeding, etc.. The ortho docs have changed the antbiotics over the years as new ones come out that work better than the old ones - or depending on the bug that shows up during cultures. The Ceftin seems to be getting less and less effective. The next flair up the docs want me to go into the hospital for a debreed and scrape and to get the antibiotics by IV. Anybody else have the bug and what treatment do you use during flair ups??? Although I'm TDIU I only get 10% for the osteo. Riverman
  20. Jessejames, First, I realize all of this should be in the "All things Political" forum/section. I think it is gracious of you to be willing to make changes in attitude or output in order to keep a single dissenting voice within the chorus. But, I don’t think that would change your beliefs. Question - What would happen if we all agreed to change our tunes to give a semblance of harmony where none is meant to exist just to keep a sole disgruntled soul happy??? Answer – Not much!!! How dull… I think the Political forum is meant to be political in the broadest sense and personal strong viewpoints involving criticism of opposing viewpoints is expected, necessary and healthy. Some of us non-political types (myself) are getting educated about areas that we are not familiar with, and look forward to the debates – and learn from them. So far, (on this new and wonderful website) I have not seen anything that is meant to really harm another poster, or anyone for that matter. A lot of it seems pretty light hearted, yet penetrating in an informative way. I am learning a lot and being entertained,,, at the same time and I have to say that thanks to you and other forum participants I now look at CNN, FOX, etc with a much more scrutinizing eye. Now “violin” time – Some of us are combat wounded and no longer as mobile as we would like to be. Going to the john, negotiating stairways or pounding keyboards can be efforts, so I read a lot of online stuff on my combo monitor/TV. Without the debates of you and the others that reading/viewing would be less exciting and more dull. I would be less informed, less rounded out!!! Yes, the heat of the Political forum helps fill a little gap in this shot up vets life and makes the days and nights a little easier and fun to pass. Not all of us are strictly claims oriented (although the wealth of information in the other forums helps prepare me for any tricks the powers that be may try). I for one need the diversified camaraderie the website offers, and the Political forum is part of that. Again, nice of you to agree to back off to keep the peace, but if you (and your sparring partners) did that it would leave a small void in this cyber vets life. Maybe the complainer should adjust, take part more or back off and leave one of the freedoms we all strived to protect during our stints intact. In summary, here is a fellow vet you are helping online – and you don’t even know it. Riverman Ps – I think Tbird would start highlighting the ‘warning’ checks of anyone who pushed things too far and calm things down some if it all got out of hand and damaging. B)
  21. Hookrunner, Back in the 70s and 80s the 21-4140-1 employment questionnaire went out annually to the TDIU folks. If you did not work in the prior year you checked NO, signed the form and mailed it back pretty quick. It was just a formality – no big deal. Once I got TDIU PT and Chapt 35, ChampVA beneifits and no future exams scheduled the annual forms stopped. According to some posts on another Vets Benefits website the forms are being resurrected due to the activities of the VDBC (Veterans Disability Benefits Commission). If you are not working, take the form with a grain of salt, fill it out and mail it in. For those who are engaged in marginal or substantially gainful employment it might be best to touch base with your SO or other advisor before filling out the form to discuss the situation in case the wages are caught during the SSA, IRS, VA computer cross check. I doubt if the protected ratings (20 year plus = me) will get the form as well as those over a certain age (I read 69), but we won’t know for sure as this is all new. All in all, no work = no problems. I do wonder if the TDIU PT with Chapt 35 and no future exams will get the form each year??? Jay Riverman
  22. I don't mind traveling some to a 'good' Virginia VAMC or Clinic. Anybody have any input on their experiences with Roanoke, Richmond, Martinsburg WVA, or DC VAMCs. Also, what about the DAV or other SOs at those locations. Any 'great' SOs out there??? Lastly, the VET Centers there - praises or complaints??? J.
  23. Hookrunner, I would like to see that list also. Actually, I'm wondering about the Virginia and DC area VA facilities - even W. Virginia. Heck, I might move someday and want to get first hand views of them all. Jay Riverman
  24. Can somebody, in simple terms, explain the difference between a personality disorder and other mental problems and tell why the VA does not compensate personality disorder. Also, is there a listing of what mental problems can be compensated and what ones can't. Jay Riverman
