  1. I waited one year after I separated from the Navy before I tried to order my DD214 from the archives. Then it took them two months to get it to me.
  2. America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass – Access Pass - Free. http://www.nps.gov/fees_passes.htm This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities. Documentation is required to obtain the pass. Acceptable documentation includes: statement by a licensed physician; document issued by a Federal agency such as the Veteran’s Administration, Social Security Disability Income or Supplemental Security Income; or document issued by a State agency such as a vocational rehabilitation agency. The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity. The pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free). The pass can only be obtained in person at the park. The Access Pass provides a 50 percent discount on some Expanded Amenity Fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and specialized interpretive services. In some cases where Expanded Amenity Fees are charged, only the pass holder will be given the 50 percent price reduction. The pass is non-transferable and generally does NOT cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessionaires.
  3. My brother is a VA security officer at a facility in another state. Will this have any effect on future claims or access to my records?
  4. Hi Chuck, Can you tell me what VA form you used to request your C-File? I can't find my SC disability rating letter and wondered how to go about getting a copy. I was advised by a VSO to send a simple letter to my VA RO requesting my C-File. That just seems too easy to me, but I figured the fellow should know what he's talking about. That letter is sitting on my coffee table, waiting to go out in tomorrow's mail ... I scoured the VA Forms search engine and never found a form I thought could be used to request my records. Which form did you use?
  5. Air Force is listed as "Army and Air Force." Changeover was July 1, 1969. It's not critical to provide the old service number, it just helps the archives locate the record. I helped my mother order my uncle's records not too long ago. He served in the Air Force from November 1950 to November 1953. We used both his service number (on his 'pretty' discharge certificate, DD 256AF) and his social security number, only because we had both numbers. If we didn't have that discharge certificate, we would have had to go only with his social security number. Very sorry for your loss. The burden of frustrating paperwork, I'm sure, makes things more difficult.
