  1. Hi all: Well 10 months after I filled the VA finally called to schedule a C&P they gave me the first available which is tomorrow. I put a claim in for PTSD and IHD. I'm a Vietnam Vet Army Helicopter Pilot, with plenty of stresors. The IHD seems pretty cut and dry I had a stress test I 2008 (Before the Va considered it AO related) and a recent Test outside the VA to confirm the DX. (I'm somewhere between the 10% - 30% range. My real concern is with the PTSD claim. I've had all the symptoms for years but only recently (18 months ago) sought help. I have a out side DX of PTSD and MDD (major depressive disorder) the private Doc even filled out the DBQ and listed my GAF as 50. My question is how to handle the Exam. I'm on meds and attending counseling and they seem to be helping so what do I tell the examiner or more importantly what should I expect ? This is my first C&P Exam and I need some Help. Have DAV as VSO but no one there today. Thanks
  2. Okay, I've got a PTSD diagnosis and receiving treatment (meds and therapy) for about six months, filed the claim with the stressor statment. the VA recently called and indicated that they were in the process or about to schedule a C&P. They meds and therapy are helping slightly (Fewer nightmares and better sleep) maybe a little less anxiety and depression. So my question is how will the C&P examiner approach this. If I have ptsd and its somewhat under control is it still compensatable?
  3. Berta: Thanks you seem to have a lot of knowledge in this area. This is my 1st claim so I'm looking for all the help I can get. 1) while my VSO said I did not need a stresser statement (21-0781) because of the DFC, However, I did complete it and included the actual orders which include statements like "came under heavy automatic weapons fire" and "with disregard for his own safety". So I think that should cover the in combat aspect. 2) my real concern how the VA views outside Diagnosis. My DX was done by a Board Certified Psychiatrist at my local community mental Health Center. I forwarded the VA all of his notes and (like I said earlier) He even completed the PTSD DBQ (21-0960P-3). So my question is does anyone know what or how much weight the VA puts on outside diagnosis's?
  4. Hello All; Just filed my first VA Claim (PTSD). After 40 years of living with the symptoms, I finally saw VA mental health. Saw three two PhD and one MD. All indicated I was depressed and anxious, but none said PTSD one PhD said "symptoms commenly associated with combat trauma". Got fed up with the wait at the VA so I went outside saw a Phd worker then a MD Phsycirist. Diagonissed PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder with a GAF 50 and worsining. He even went so far as to fill out the DBQ. I was a Med-a-Vac pilot wiht multiple DFC's so my VSO said I did not need a stressor statement. My question is how does the VA view statements and notes from outside Doc's.and will the DBQ help or hinder my claim.
