  1. I was told on here to keep going, even after 100%. possible future smc, vehicle benefits, unempl vs schedular, misc other benefits. plus the fact you are properly rated for all your deserved service injuries. anyway, I developed the hernia, had the surgery with a mesh patch put in. so Im thinking the cause was related to the "0% abdominal wall muscle injury". on a va site, it shows form 21-526EZ, but aren't there different forms that must be used for new claim vs secondary vs related to something? confusing...as usual. also, I saw in my records where it was called a ventral hernia, and also called inguinal hernia...are they basically the same? I think that form asks what kind of hernia. semper fi, good luck to all
  2. so I ended up having hernia surgery, due to the 0% injury to abdom wall muscle. its uncomfortable area now and then. but I dont wear any special belt/truss, etc, so does that sound like no more beyond the 0% injury? where can I find those diagnostic code numbers for disabilities? the list from ebenefits lists the percentage and name of disability, but no code numbers. Is there a manual that shows that, and shows 'secondary' disabilities related to ones you already have, other things like that? It's hard to find lots of basic info. semper fi, good luck to all
  3. so does this hernia thing sound like something worth checking into? I've had a 'rough time' over the years with this process, not much help from vet svc reps, etc. feel like I want to be sure I get due justice for what I went thru, but dont want to clog up the system and contribute to delays and backlogs if it's just thought to be a real non-issue. and Id like to be able to figure out how to handle it without a svc rep because of the poor service I felt Ive had from them in the past. but the tech type stuff, the right form, using the right terminology, etc, really does baffles me, and that stuff I guess is pretty basic for them. semper fi, good luck to all
  4. dont think I state things the right way, end up getting people, and myself, mixed up. Im not rated for hernia. rated "10% residuals multiple sfw with bowel perforation", from the belly injuries from the b-trap explosion (sliced open, colostomy, etc I already stated). think I remember I tried for more, got denied, but they said the weak abdom wall muscle should be noted....later rated "0% injury abdominal wall muscle". then eventually, "post Vietnam laparotomy...ventral hernia repair with mesh/continent abdominal binder/follow up 10 days to have staples removed". remained at "0% injury abdominal wall muscle". vet svc rep was notified about it back then, but that was it. so I had 0...went to 0% serv conn...then get hernia/surgery. that's that. guess my 'let it slide, suffer in silence' routine isnt very good. early experiences with the people involved made me stay away, barely ever complain, etc. so...is this not a real issue, does it sound about right the way it was done? another vet I know said 'the system' treats us much better these days. sure couldnt be much worse from what my old memory can still recall. semper fi, good luck to all
  5. am I in the right spot? I saw a duplicate of my post somewhere else, dont know what happened. I went to the 'list of stuff I started". so, to continue within the same subject, I click to 'answer the question'?, as if it said to 'post another reply to this same subject'? trying to find a discussion I started by going to the disab claims forum is impossible, 1900 pages?? Im either missing some instructions somwhere on how to navigate this place, or Im too dumb as far as being tech-savvy to use and understand things in here.
  6. where am I?? was trying to answer/reply/continue, etc a post I started a while back, and once again I got "lost". how the heck do I continue some post? I tried looking up "content I started", wrote some stuff, guess I clicked wrong. I cannot figure out this site. help.
  7. not sure (again) if I clicked in the right spot. so many things, so complicated, I get overwhelmed. Even tho p+t 100% (90%) tdiu for long time, feel bad inside, sorry I didnt complain about bunch of things I now wonder about. let things slide after the tdiu. even tho no more $$$, would be nice to feel that I got due notice for my service as my time comes to a close. and things dont usually get better with age. this hernia thing be easier for me to look into than other things, I'm not good at this stuff. va doctors said to make note of the "0%" injury to the weakened abdominal wall muscle, that was '78, then the 'ventral hernia repair w/mesh" in '98 after the 'bulge' in belly got uncomfortable. so kinda seems like more than a "0%" for a hernia repair? really never thought I got a fair shake on that whole deal, getting sliced open like I did, and just 10%. you guys think there's anything there? my (bowel?) broke thru the ('0%') weak abdom wall, needing the mesh patch/hernia repair. vet service rep thought it was nothing, but it seems I never got one of the good ones in the past. would it be a new claim?...or an increased claim?...secondary?...stuff I was reading makes it look like you have to do tons of research just to figure out the right name for the claim. semper fi, good luck to all
  8. this is surely the most confusing, complex site to navigate, can never figure out how/what/where to go. really dread trying to find the most basic info. probably in the wrong spot, here goes. Is there a way to get the daily locations/movements of the unit/company/platoon, etc, you were with while in 'nam? Activities....'after action reports'.... want to look up what was recorded on day I was wounded 1970, also other specific things that happened but dont remember what day it was. is there such specific info I can get, or just basic info such as "this is the area the 1st Marine Division covered in 1970", etc. hope this makes sense.
  9. Anyone ever heard of this, just came across some info about toxic water/ and water dringking at lejeune 1953 to 1985. Recall something about it a while back, never gave it much thought. Did part of my boot camp training there in 1969 for a few months. Anything important ever come out of the medical issues about drinking the water? I find sometimes you have some medical issues, and dont usually find out causes for some of them that had something to do with something you were involved with. I think Uncle Sam always figures the less we know, the more money they get to keep.,,.to squander away on their stupid things.
  10. your link for "6 reasons" works, for some reason the other one doesnt...on my laptop anyway. and all the ads everywhere make things tough to follow. I guess the site needs all these ads to pay for it, but what a jumbled mess. Im guessing you're a lawyer, or have some legal background, as reading all you said, I have 2 words.....holy crap. the back and forth with "remanded...to varo...to bva....38 cfr part 3 and 4"......holy crap. I believe the 'cfr' stuff is legal stuff. Ive never looked it up (dont know how anyway). I assume all the 'letter' places are different va rating places. think I recall the "bva" place was not around back in my ol 'Nam days. I thought each time you disagree, you need more new evidence, not just say you dont agree. I have no idea what you mean by "...read my signature...". I think Im getting more confused the more stuff I read.....again, holy crap. feel like simply saying, I give up. ** that list of terms/abbreviations is nice....I just noticed, "smc", that spl compensation, is missing (...?...)
  11. again I'll ask doesnt anybody see the question about pursuing after you get 100 on their screen?? on the first/main page, buried behind all the darn ads. maybe my comp isnt bringing up the current way the site is made? Im just real basic user when it comes to knowing comps. I recall back in the day, not having good luck with vso, didnt seem real interested. guess theres good ones who care and really know the ropes, and some not so good... maybe a crapshoot, the good ones with lots of experience vs ones just starting out. pacmanx1 - ya really confused me there, Im better off forgetting I read it. cant imagine how one can get serious money pursuing beyond tdui....I guess beside that smc stuff.
  12. that smc stuff is complicated. "another 50%"....."100 plus 60 percent"...."R2"...dont get it....the stuff I read, dont think it applies to me. not housebound, dont need aid. clicking on the "reason to keep going after 100%" does not bring me to the answers. like I said, it brings me to a title about the c and p exam. do you guys see that, or is my comp fouled up? guess I'll have to contact tech support, etc? I read stuff elsewhere that made sense about keeping going after 100%. said things like registry motor vehicle fee exemptions, house modifications, other things, depends on certain Types of disabilities, not just the 100% rating itself. been so long, and things still keep popping up I never knew about. Uncle Sam should have an easy to understand "plain english" list of benefits. I think Uncle Sam figures the less ya know, the more he gets to keep. lots of you guys on here sound like geniuses to me. Is there a list on here explaining things like the abbreviations, other terminology, secondary conditions, etc?
  13. Dont know if Im in the right spot, have spent hours trying to figure out how to use this site I read "6 reasons to keep pursuing va claims and appeals - AFTER you reach 100%". Im rated 100% P&T tdui from 'Nam days. but clicking on it brings "10 tips to help you keep the c and p exam in perspective". Is it hidden somewhere else, or not here at all? and man, its tough reading and understanding lots of stuff on here.... abbreviations. "secondary" conditions, one thing caused by another....code numbers, medical/technical names. there must be a bunch of lists somewhere? Im a 'regular' type guy, but lots of stuff I have read makes me feel pretty dumb trying to understand things. and now I cant recall the title of this 'forum' for this question, and I looked back, cant find the name of it anywhere, this site is so confusing.
  14. of course I dont want to discourage others. guess Ive just read bunch of much worse stuff than mine. diagnosed(?). yes...I said I had the surgery for it in '98. I am rated P/T. But I think on here somewhere, I read a vet should still go aftter things that might be serv/conn. might have read it somewhere else, not sure, and cant recall what the reasons were. yes, quite a bitter pill. just the way things were. even thou it took long time, glad attitudes changed. would have been horrible if things continued or got worse. thanks for the welcome home, I dont get tired of hearing that ---Quang Nam Province --- p.s. still dont know the title of this forum Im in, this is most confusing site to navigate I've ever seen, I can never figure out where I am/how I got there/how to get somewhere I want to go. seems I click on something, but I dont go to where it says. I dont see a title for this forum anywhere....is my comp not showing things properly??
  15. have no idea how I got here, or what forum Im in. Just says "ask new question". I cant find a list of things, I cant find how to use this site. It just sends me into the twilight zone. here goes. injured in Vietnam 1970. booby trap explosion foot or two in front of me. exploratory laparotomy, multiple shell fragment wounds w/bowel perforation, colostomy for a few months. 9 inch vertical scar from just above belly button on down. severed major artery repair left groin area, blood transfusion. injury abdomal wall muscle. awarded 0% for abdominal wall muscle injury. 10% for the multiple sfw/bowel perf/temp colostomy. artery repair surgery never mentioned. time marches on, had other injuries, eventually awarded 90% then unemployability 1984. 1998, surgery for ventral hernia same area, some type of medical "patch" stitched in. always thought hernia surgery probably related to the other stuff, esp the abdom wall muscle injury. once saw on ebenefits the DAV rep made note of it. nothing about an increase, new injury, etc. dav reps I had never seemed very good. recall dav rep telling me things like "better than nothing"...."not bad, huh"? but, long story short ...too late for that...hernia thing/abd wall muscle injury always bugged me, seems it would be related, guess ther dav rep never thought so. I would often read to keep an eye on things even if rated 100%. always felt stigma of 'nam combat vets looked down on by society and the system, let lots of things slide. this is just one of them I've wondered about when I feel the discomfort in that area. I've rambled on long enough, Im sure this is quite a minor thing compared to most issues on here. thanks for listening. hope I can find this spot again to see if anyone had any thoughts, not sure where/how I got here.
  16. now I cant even figure out how I got here. and I somehow missed the email...am I in the right spot now? seems whereever I click, it's not what it says it is. what forum am I in?? went back to first page, cant find the name of this forum anywhere. feel like the twilight zone, have spent hours and hours trying to figure this site out.
  17. went on youtube. where the heck do I find a listing of forums like it shows there?? says "posting a topic on hadit.com veterans claims forums". I cant find any page that looks anything like that. this site is very complex, or I am doing something completely wrong, cant find instructions.
  18. darn, am I in the right spot? testing how/where to respond? Im totally lost on how to do things.
  19. please excuse if Im in the wrong spot, etc. having trouble navigating things. took whole force of explosion at my feet in my 'Nam days. Always had odd 'buzzing' feeling from things like snomobile, jet ski, hvy duty vehicles, long trips...not pain, was just annoying, and shook it off in couple of hours. Was never one to complain, at all. All these years, the little buzzing feeling has turned into serious pain, After any type of travel. Few hours later, incredible pain...often knocks me out, later awake, just as I was before...same pencil in my hand, or holding a sandwich, not sure what day it is. Kind of scary. The pain overides strong meds already taking for other things. Now I dread having to leave house, But have to balance things w/out being an isolated hermit. Very odd thing, something from 'Nam days I doubt has ever been much of an issue, Few times with VA docs, didnt think it was much of a thing.
  20. Hi, I'm new, recently been reading these type forums and other medical info sites, got me wondering. Maybe nothing here, or it's been too long? Injured in 'Nam 1970, booby trap, USMC Infantry residuals multiple sfw with bowel perforation/adhesions of peritoneum - 10% - 1972 (had surgery 1970 partially severed gastric artery, and had a loop colostomy which was 'closed' after couple of months) injury abdominal wall muscle - 0% - 1978 1998 - surgery for ("inguinal"?) hernia (maybe related to my "belly problems" above?).
