  1. I finally was able to log into ebenefits, a new format, it now says that my dependent pay request has been "closed as of 12/12/2014" and that an "appeal is possible". Looks like they do not want to pay me is my best guess. Any comments
  2. I copied a post by Sierra63 and I m pasting it here. PROVERBS 3.6 Branch of Service: US ARMY SGT RANK IN 3 YEARS STARTED E1 Posted Today, 01:31 PM ArNG11, on 18 Jan 2015 - 11:46 AM, said: Sir you hit the nail on the head, they dont want the veteran to gain any leverage. Why else would they not want a written, provable, dated, verifyable, rock solid record of the communications between themselves and the veteran. ? If they have nothing to hide why not encourage veterans to use this system that cost millions of dollars of the taxpayers money? The same system should be available between the veteran and the Regional offices. We would then be able to prove what we sent them, when we sent it, who got it, what actions were taken, ect. If after communicating on the messaging system the veterans concerns were not adressed adequately then a phone call could be made. Like This Quote MultiQuote

  4. According to one post, the VA Secretary has been invited to have a look at Hadit.com and has responded that he will have a look. So, now is the time to comment on how to fix the problems with the VA. Please no bashing the VA. What can he do to improve the VA?
  5. Ok, thanks Berta. I ll wait till I receive a letter from the BVA with the docket number. I noticed that when my attorney, Ken Carpenter, sent the form 9 letter he put in bold print that we "are not requesting a personal hearing or the opportunity to provide testimony before the board." Do you think he did this to speed up the process or for some other reason.
  6. My attorney filed a form 9 in Aug 2014, where do I find my docket number or is it too early. Where can I track the progress of my appeal other than ebenefits which has been difficult to access because of constant log in problems, is down or gives cut and paste status reports. I just want to track my appeal movement up the docket. My attorney will have it, but I would like to find it and track it on my own. Thanks
  7. I have IU and I have Medicare and will be buying a supplemental insurance to limit the out of pocket expenses. I ve been using the VA healthcare system for years. After discussing VA healthcare with a friend and my private podiatrist they are strongly recommending that I use private care to help with my pain. The issue is that the VA does not use the latest technology in healthcare. Right now, I get my meds from the VA and go in for check ups every 6 months and get refills. I also use audiology and mental health at VA. Any comments Thanks

  10. I would see a doctor now for any medical condition that was mentioned in the VA or SSDI decision letters. In 1994, they considered giving you 100% but granted 60%, I would find out why they did not grant 100%. Use the existing claims file, it took over a year to get a copy of my file. I would request for my medical records from your VA healthcare facility now. The day after I got my protection I would file the TDIU claim and not wait. Paul
  11. Hi Penelope I think what I would do is wait till November 2014 to file the TDIU claim and in the meantime start seeing doctors about the possible secondary issues related CFS that the SSDI claim letter mentioned. Depression may also be an issued with Chronic illnesses. I would go be evaluated by a Mental Health specialist. Do all this now, when you submit your claim in November be sure to claim any secondary conditions related to CFS. As others have said, you will need a written statement from a doc stating that you are no longer able to work due to your Service Connected conditions. Your last employer will probably have to state that you were released from employment because of your SC disabilities. 2 cents Paul
  12. Best of luck to you John Your case may have important implications in my own case, which Ken Carpenter is handling. Happy Trails Paul
  13. I would call the Gainesville C&P office and make sure they arrange for lodging for your stay there at their expense. It is in the reg s somewhere because I had to travel 3 hours to a C&P exam one time and they provided lodging for me. Maybe you could turn this into a vacation. Happy Trails
  14. I had a urine test yesterday and today I received an email from my VA PCP that said I had no hydrocodone in my test. My new VA doctor is wanting me to have hydrocodone in my urine test before she will give me a few months refill of my medication. She has given me one refill and asked me to come in next week for another urine test. I live about 1.5 hours from the clinic and have to drive on a dangerous canyon road, so on days that I have to drive to the clinic I do not take a couple of doses of the medication because it makes me a little drowsy. She also added that I need to sign a pain management agreement with the VA and not get any pain meds from outside doctors. Since my previous PCP retired, getting these meds has been very hit and miss, especially when she took time off to have a baby. I did get some pain meds from my family doctor a few years ago. I have some on reserve for days when the meds do not come in, which has been quite frequent lately. The new VA doctor asked me if I have ever received pain meds from an outside doctor and I said yes. She said oh, then we need this and this and this. I have Blue Cross insurance that covers part of prescription costs. I have stayed with the VA clinic because I thought that it would add good evidence to my claim and it was free but now that I have IU and I have an appeal that deals with retro pay only maybe it would be better to drop VA healthcare now. In eight months I will have Medicare also. I think it might be time to cut this ball and chain and go to civilian doctors. Any suggestions or comments
  15. My nurse practitioner, who I like better than my doctor, is pushing hard for me to consider laser surgery on my back, she added my name to a list for a consultation, I m very skeptical of any surgery. My nephew had 4 back operations and all failed and they were done at Loma Linda Hospital in Calif, which is a well respected facility.
  16. Georgia Check out 38 C.F.R. 60.5 Travel Basically, it says that if you travel 50 miles or more or at least two hours from your home then you would be entitled to overnight lodging paid by the VA. I ve used this benefit and the VA does honor it.
  17. Has any one ever used the Foreign Medical Program while traveling overseas?
  18. I called the VA Foreign Medical Program and they told me that the VA Health Services do not send medications out of the country, as GuamasJim stated, She said I would have to get those meds in the foreign country that I m visiting either over the counter or by prescription from a Doctor and then purchase them in a pharmacy. They did say that I could submit the receipts for medicines and a doctor visit for a reimbursement as long as the medicines were for a service connected condition, but I need to fill out a form and send in a copy of the VA decision letter prior to taking the trip. This is going to be tricky. Anyone have info on what countries in South Asia have the least restrictive policies on getting medicines filled such as hydrocodone. I m going to talk to my PCP to see if she can write a prescription for a longer time period.
  19. This is the web page for the VA Foreign Medical Program, it discusses how to submit a claim for medical treatment that was received in a foreign country but it does not discuss how to get medications such as hydrocodone that the VA has prescribed in a foreign country . Any one have more info? Am I missing something here? http://www.va.gov/hac/forbeneficiaries/fmp/fmp.asp
  20. In my opinion, we should be entitled to legal representation with a VA claim when any claim is initially filed. I think many glitches occur during the time period from the initial filed claim to the decision letter, mine did anyway, fortunately it was a glitch they overlooked. My VSO put that I had never opened a claimed but actually I was reopening a claim from 1972. Lawyers are very high paid glitch checkers.
