  1. Yes this is some good news for a change when it comes to the COLA"s of the past. Lets be real though, the number should have been in the 11% range as we all know what the real numbers are, but when you are allowed to manipulate the basket of goods that are monitored it always make's it an easy skim by uncle sucker. We are back into the 70's on inflation so that 5.9 will get eaten pretty quick over the next few months if something does not change quickly.

VA and Marijuana – What Veterans need to know

Several states in the U.S. have approved the use of marijuana for medical and/or recreational use. Veterans should know that federal law classifies marijuana as a Schedule One Controlled Substance. This makes it illegal in the eyes of the federal government.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is required to follow all federal laws including those regarding marijuana. As long as the Food and Drug Administration classifies marijuana as Schedule I VA health care providers may not recommend it or assist Veterans to obtain it.

Veteran participation in state marijuana programs does not affect eligibility for VA care and services. VA providers can and do discuss marijuana use with Veterans as part of comprehensive care planning, and adjust treatment plans as necessary.

Some things Veteran need to know about marijuana and the VA:

    • Veterans will not be denied VA benefits because of marijuana use.
    • Veterans are encouraged to discuss marijuana use with their VA providers.
    • VA health care providers will record marijuana use in the Veteran's VA medical record in order to have the information available in treatment planning. As with all clinical information, this is part of the confidential medical record and protected under patient privacy and confidentiality laws and regulations.
    • VA clinicians may not recommend medical marijuana.
    • VA clinicians may only prescribe medications that have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for medical use. At present most products containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), or other cannabinoids are not approved for this purpose by the FDA.
    • VA clinicians may not complete paperwork/forms required for Veteran patients to participate in state-approved marijuana programs.
    • VA pharmacies may not fill prescriptions for medical marijuana.
    • VA will not pay for medical marijuana prescriptions from any source.
    • VA scientists may conduct research on marijuana benefits and risks, and potential for abuse, under regulatory approval.
    • The use or possession of marijuana is prohibited at all VA medical centers, locations and grounds. When you are on VA grounds it is federal law that is in force, not the laws of the state.
    • Veterans who are VA employees are subject to drug testing under the terms of employment.

This was published in 2017, which it is still on the books, but make no mistake MMJ is now being used by the VA in the study of TBI and PTSD according to the DAV. They were forced into this by the Returning Vets from Iraq and Afghanistan, due to the self medicating that those Vets found MMJ or street weed was the only thing that helped them cope with life after war, replacing bags of big pharma meds that did nothing for these Vets........So we wait, and wait, and wait some more.

  3. You are going to get Jammed for the bill. Part A is automatic and is for long term care as far as I am aware, part B is for direct medical care. IMO, that 140 per month is not worth the risk these days, anything can happen in a second, and although you might be ok with the VA, they may not have the means to get you through what life can throw at you and the bill can be steep and 140 per month is very cheap piece of mind.

Your life, your money, your call.

  4. On your FERS application..........Did your employer opine as to whether they could accommodate your husbands disability?

OPM is a stickler on this subject, and that is why I ask.  Resigning should never be considered, you will leave to much on the table, insurance being one of the biggest , and that can not be replaced no matter what you get moving forward.

Anything you think that is SC related should be filed on right now, not only will it strengthen your VA case, it will strengthen your SSDI and FERS case.

  5. As was already stated, IU would be your correct route right now with the possibility of SSDI, you could also hit the VA up for Voc Rehab, they give you around 1k per month to attend school plus pay for anything you need.  As far as your house, if it is on a VA loan , they will most likely help you so as to not lose your home.

You have several battles to fight at the same time, we have been there done that.  My question is, was this a government job?

  6. It's not true. You do not have 2 different claims, you have one claim involving 2 different issues, ie:, claim for increase, and temp 100% based on a knee replacement. Most of the time you have to talk to some of these people like a 5 year old.

Who told you you can not have "two different" claims?

    Do you use a VSO?

Did the VA do the TKR?

Why did the VA deny your increase?

  7. Yes Sir, at 62 FERS Flips on the offset.

Chained CPI has been around for a long time now. We get screwed every year on the "CPI" numbers, when the real numbers are 4-5% above what the government really counts.  We just recently went through several years of not getting a COLA, and we all know things we buy everyday was on a continual rise........I think this year we might see 2-2.5% increase, but at least it is something.

  8. I agree, that the windfall provision is a farce, and if it was not for the VA comp, I would be on skid row.   I have 7 more years until this FERS deal flips, and the offset stops with OPM re-calculating my retirement for 42 years of credit........I do not know how much this will change my retirement, but I expect to gain 1k to 1.3k per month.

  9. CBD is where you need to stay. I have a very good friend who was in a very bad wreck in 2000, the guy who hit him got decapitated and he had a front row seat to this along with 3 months in the hospital having his back rebuilt and neck healing.  4 months ago , he showed me a bottle of CBD he got, as he wanted off the pills he has been on since the accident.

Since he started this CBD journey , he said his life has changed as in no more pain pills, not much pain, clear head along with a major decrease in panic attacks to almost nothing. He told me that after 18 years, he feels normal again, something he thought impossible just a short time ago. I have read alot about CBD, this is the one thing that is giving Big Parma the jitters, but the cat is out of the bag and there is no going back, which is good for us that are still walking on this earth.

  10. Yesterday the numbers were released.  What I read , it stated we were at 1.7%, but it is what it is. The article went on to say how the CPI has been hijacked since Clinton was in town and the real number this year using the real formula (BC) the COLA would be 5.3%. If the Goverment used "Real" numbers again they could not afford Billion dolla airplanes ,everlasting wars, bailouts and such, while at the same time, being broke.   We keep taking one for the team , year over year, but 2% is 2%.
