  1. I really liked the way it was before the change. It was just much easier to look over the forum to see thing of interest instead of looking at the last rely to a thread.
  2. Yes, I should have added that I know and have followed AskNod's IL VA drilling. I give him big Props for seeing this through to where it landed, I am sure there are some at the VA that still feels he gave them a dry Colonoscopy, and that should make all of us feel good. I know I wont push that far unless they screw with me much, but I will see this through to where I get what I ask for. Years ago they bought me a computer, and I let it ride, I won't be that naive this round.
  3. Pretty good info and conversation on this subject. I will hit the 20 year mark next year, and after reading alot about this, I concluded that the VA would have to treat a P&T IU claim the same as any other under the 20 year rule, meaning you keep it forever minus any finding of fraud. In the 19 years I have had this rating, I have only filled out one VA questionnaire, and when I do hit the 20 year mark I will be 53. I have thought about doing something that will give me some extra change over the years, but have really never found anything yet that interested me. I tried going back to school in the beginning as I was really young when this was awarded, but VOC Rehab shut that down pretty quick, so I am thinking about hitting the VA pretty hard about the IL program and see where that may take me. I would like to thank GUAYMASJim for post on this subject, as it has shed some real light on the road I might take next year, and I am sure the VA is not going to like me after I start.
  4. About 10 years ago, I got a Certified letter from the VA that I needed to be screened for Hep C due to the use of air-guns in bootcamp. I have kept that notice in my file ever since. I just thought it was odd that the VA would send out that notice when I knew that they were fighting it at the same time.
  5. I was always under the impression that the cut off was 17.
  6. Such sad news to hear. Carlie was a fighter and a Vets best friend. Her personality and caring with those in needs of guidance showed on this board every time she posted. Our thoughts are with Lucy, Carlie will be forever with us and her wisdom will continue on Hadit for others to learn from.
  7. If the reason was good enough to get your discharge upgraded, then the VA should be somewhat a walk in the park. It might be a slow one, but you will get there........Congrats.
  8. I'm not to hip on any congress person or senator complaining about another Fed employee on paid leave, it not like they put in their 8 and go home. I am not taking up for the VA, I understand how the discipline system work in all government agency's, so thing are not as they seem, yet lets not let the clowns on the hill call the kettle black, their innocence is non existent when you are getting paid, but don't show up for work.
  9. You need to stay on this. Send them a certified letter, phone call records or anything else your VA school counsler can document. You get 48 months, and they must pay you for each and every month. My kids and my wife used these benefits, and the payment always came on the 1st. Your VA counselor is the most important person on campus when you have these bennies, they must put the info into the system, and every semester, make sure they do it as soon as you sign up......Keep on them, you will get paid. Broncovet, I really don't know why the VA did not pay your son, but I would have never let that stand.
  10. I hope the VA gives you what you earned. I really am disgusted with how claims like yours lingers in the never-world, and you are forced to show them you are able to handle yourself and your affairs, then you still got to fight to get your money. No government entity should have that much power.
  11. WOWA there Asknod..........Very hardy Congrats on your long road to success. You definitely put the VA in their place and forced them to do the job, yet it is a shame that it came to that. Good luck on the mega green house, you earned every foot of it.
  12. You are totally 100% wrong on the volunteer work, the OP is not going through his VA BS because of volunteer work, it's because someone at the VA screwed the pooch, and it can be fixed, as he is doing. When you volunteer, you do it at your own leisure, when you feel like it, at the pace you want. Many of us on here have done allot of volunteer work since the grating of IU. For anyone to say that the VA will come after you for Volunteering is just silly, maybe you want to stay in your box, but most other prefer to enjoy life outside the box, and volunteering is continuing one to be a productive member of society..
  13. Nothing is what you will most likely get..........The CPI has not been released yet, we still have a month to go. Congress must vote yearly to give the thumbs up for any increase, they did that. Now we must wait to see what the CPI results are, thus far, it's a big fat zero.
  14. No one knows yet, if any it will be what SS recipients get........right now it does not look promising, but we will not know until the end of October.
  15. No one can really tell you that until you get the particulars from the VA on how they came to that conclusion.
  16. Probably should be at least 20% if not 30, but you need an Ortho IMO to get a proper rating. I have nerve damage in mine, it was rated at 20, my ortho said he would rate at 40 due to muscle and range loss. The only reason I left it alone was the IU award so it was really no benefit at that time.
  17. WTG 63Sierra. It def has been a long road on your claim. Funny how things work out when you keep at them. Congrats.
  18. Did you get the Ellis clinic involved in this, if not you should, they are really good on VA and DOL issues. He also does a great job on AMA ratings.
  19. What was DOL's reason for denying the scheduled awards?
  20. IMO, I think it is best to have your ducks in a row before filing for an increase. I just see no reason to give the VA examiner any more wiggle room than you need to.
  21. You are correct. Congress must pass each year, a bill to give VA compensation COLA's. These COLA's will be the same as those on SS. Don't expect anything this year from either, the CPI is down, or at least flat, unless something extreme happens next month. Those on Medicare may see a 25-50% increase in premiums in the coming year......this is not set in stone yet, but the writing is on the wall.
  22. I have a 11 inch scare on my left knee, VA rated it at 10% and a 4 inch scare on the left ankle rated at 10%, these "Secondary's" were finalized in late 99 back to 1997. I am not sure if thing's have changed since then, but I think you have a good shot on the knee, specifically if it is in the middle of the knee.
  23. A very long time ago, I had a C&p on my shoulder, I had nerve damage causing the scapula to wing when raising the arm. The C&P doc had apparently never seen this before, a summarized it may have been a birth defect "Ha" and not caused by a 90lb gun shell coming straight down on me. As a former Navy doc, my real civilian ortho doc was livid when he read the exam result He wrote a most eloquent IMO, one that this C&P quack could not overcome by any means.....2nd C&P same results with the added "I already did this once" note, the RO once again sent me back for number 3, this time they directed him to read the IMO, in which he responded favorably. I learned a lesson that day....Never trust the VA to do a proper C&P by qualified people, always go in already loaded with a IMO based on an exam.
