About John Hayden

John Hayden's Achievements

  1. 71 years, 80% with IHD 60, PTSD 50, Tinnitus 10. Had MI and open heart for CBBG2X, maze and 2 valves replaced. Ejection LT50%. Had sleep apnea test done, diagnosed with COPD and inactive emphysema nodules. VA issued a BiPap immediately after reading sleep report. Have not submitted anything on COPD, S/A, all these years thought condition was normal with the condition of my heart. Prior to BiPap restless sleep, sweats, gasping for breath, heart racing out of the chest and couldn't get back to sleep for hours. Nodding off in afternoon was common, just felt like waiting for the shoe to drop on me. Machine is great, restful sleep, no wakefulness, just roll over and go back out and definitely feel more rested during the day. Still wake but more manageable. Is my use of the BiPap considered secondary to my heart issues? Is there a connection to warrant a claim? The fact that the machine is improving my health is consolation enough but any advice or suggestions on a connection? Thanks John Hayden RVN 1969
  2. Finally have the opportunity to chat directly, you are legend.  I'm Bronx born but also raised my family in the Harlem Valley, around Pawling did endless runs to the Hudson side of the county for my kids sports activities.  Actually I'm at 80% rounded off from the 82 but I was given the 60% PRIOR to my surgery by an outside firm that just read my echo from my cardiologist.  This was granted about 5 months BEFORE I underwent, in Columbia Presbyterian, a double bypass, Aortic and Mytrial valve replacement(MOO) a maze procedure to stop the A-fib I had developed and they plugged a small hole I had since birth.  The surgery went very well, I went through service groups available in South Carolina to explain the severity of the operation to see if it was rated correctly.  Again  I was seen in Willmington by an outside agent for the VA that agreed with the echo supplied but felt the 60% for the heart sufficed.  Im retired from a Municipality  and worked after for a service company and also drove a limo.  I can't do either job any longer, just don't have the stamina, beginnings of emphysema are taking its toll.  Oh, really bad hearing too, finally admitted it was service related for my year in country back in 69 but rate me at 0%.  I'm a proverbial doorknob.

A real pleasure to finally make contact with you, very envious of where you are late Sept into late Nov.  The shores the Carolinas are nice but just flat and most times tree-less.  Looking forward to hearing from you and Thanks for giving yourself and your time to all of us.

I am glad you feel your 60% rating is correct.

I am just a small part of Hadit- which is Legendary.

      Yes my environment is stunning.

  3. I have a 10 1/2 by 1 inch scar on my chest from Open Heart surgery about three years old. Have IHD and they had to do a CABG and replace 2 valves. Rated 82% from IHD 60, PTSD 50 and Tinnitus 10. Surgery done outside the VA, no other complications. Should I submit for scar? Emotionally I'm a wreck with depression constantly wondering when I get up if todays my day to check out. RVN in 1969 for the whole year and didn't have much to do with VA until about 10 years after my heart attack.
  4. Hello Berta, resident of SC for about four years, originally from your neck of the woods. Born and worked in NYC but lived in Duchess Co where we raised our family. You are someone I always wanted to reach out to and I'm very happy to finally connect. Moved to the Myrtle Beach area about 4 years ago and only then got involved with the VA. They have a wonderful support system down here and really amazing how EVERYONE just comes together and gets along at the Vietnam Vets meetings. Hope to hear from you, have about eight issues I think you could help me with in dealing with the VA. Thanks for calling out to SC
