  1. Buck- Can my spouse use the educational benefits to get her Ph.D, even though she has a Masters Degree? Her field is Social Work. My eligibility for Voc Rehab expired in 2004, but under "additional benefits" in ebenefits it says my dependents are eligible . I didn't know if it applied if she already has a degree?
  2. Good info Brokensoldier244th- thank you. Yes, re-breaking my jaw is part of the process... braces, speech therapy to learn to use my tongue differently, etc. ugh. They think it will take about two years total. I'm just hoping I can do it outside the VA. Also, I'm in a state with good benefits, so that's exciting.
  3. Thanks Broncovet- So true with ebenefits. I filed a claim in December after 26 years when I originally filed and that was approved. Then I filed again in April, so I just thought they grouped it all under the December claim? Guess we will see.
  4. Thanks for your reply Brokensoldier244t. I actually do have a spouse and I don't know exactly what I'm looking at with all this. I just saw all of this on ebenefits for a claim I filled out in April. I haven't gotten the official letter yet. I have a lot to look into. They just changed my rating for my misaligned jaw/mouth to 20% from 0% and added the TDIU. I'm looking at 20,000 dollars worth of work with a whole host of issues because when it was broken in two places they didn't notice for over a week (I had multiple injuries), so it set in misalignment. It has created many many issues. That was in 1979.

  6. Thank you both Broncovet and Berta for the help. We are in the process of getting his information together. Sorry again Berta for posting in the wrong area.
  7. Sorry, I didn't know if it would get your attention. I'm in the process of getting all of that information. As soon as I can get it, I will post the information in the main forum.
  8. Hi Berta- I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. My spouse is a social worker and has a 67 year old Vietnam Veteran as a client in a rural mental health community situation. Her client is very poor and currently only receives just over a thousand dollars a month from SSDI.

He was shot in the knee in the war and is now having tremendous trouble/pain just walking around, etc. He filed years ago for VA compensation years ago and was denied-- I don't have the details. He just gave up and didn't try again.

I know you are expert in CUE and I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction to give him some advise. He doesn't like to talk about it, but it would be such a blessing to get this wrong righted. I would hate to send him to a VSO (who I believe basically works for the VA). I will do whatever I can to help him with paperwork, etc., as would my spouse. Thanks for any info.

  9. My claim status on eBenefits is "Preparation for Notification". The decision is to be mailed between March 17-19. Does eBenefits have a section that reveals the outcome or will I just get mail notification? Thanks.
  10. Thank you VYNC for the info. I got a letter today that I'm being referred to a VA Neurologist (abnormal eeg/ct scan). I also had a series of x-rays and sonograms for neck/feet/hip pain. I have a letter from an Orthopedic Surgeon from 1991 that says I have a flattened talar dome with advanced arthritis and should have a fusion. Currently I only get 20% for range of motion. I also have very painful scaring that's noted in the first c&p exam. Can an old letter be used to reopen a claim? Thanks again for your suggestions.
  11. Yes, I probably could. I just don't know where to start. Like, when I file a claim do I need outside medical proof even though the VA has EEG, CT Scan and vision field tests indicating a brain trauma. Do I need outside evidence showing progression of my HEP C? It's in my file that I have it and also that I had blood transfusions from their surgeries. Do I file for sleep apnea, depression/ptsd, hep c, TBI, lateral pain in my hips, back from broken feet and limited mobility and use of my arms from the head/jaw/neck injury all at once? I just get really overwhelmed. I just had a vision exam by a VA Optometrist last week and explained to him that my right eye leaks fluid and that's consistent with a brain trauma. I have chronic redness and swelling from it. He said I had dry eye and allergies (in one eye?). Then he wants to see me in two months after doing the field test that I failed. Why, if it's only dry eye and allergies--eye exams are annual? I need an ophthalmologist and there aren't any there. Anyway, my point is, I don't have insurance and this is the first time I've used VA medical care. It seems the VA lies or evades about what's wrong. I can't even get action on a FOIA request for my C-file. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a victim mentality. I'm getting started and trying to gather information before I take action so the claims are solid. Hope this makes sense. But yes, I can file the claim(s).
  12. Yes, that's part of the confusion. I haven't had insurance in over 20 years, so no medical trail. I've recently started going to VA for medical. I've recently had abnormal EEG and CT Scan for head injury and they acknowledge my Hep C. I filed a claim for Hep c in 1991, but never heard from them and didn't pursue anything. I was very young and dumb and had the idea that I didn't deserve anything. A friend, x-military literally harassed me everyday to go file a claim. Now I am experiencing how messed up I am. The trouble is that I don't have insurance, so the VA is all I've got. The doctor told me the CT was normal, but I got copies of my tests and it clearly says abnormal white matter, etc. They did say the EEG was abnormal. Mostly they are focusing on non-service connected issues, even though I've requested a TBI screen and MRI for head trauma. I've asked for Hep C test progression and other things, but they just ignore that. I've been to see a patient advocate and they are mostly concerned about supporting the doctor/VA. Thanks SO much for responding! How do I connect with Alex Graham? I do go to Nod's website-- Just discovered it.
  13. Hello everyone- I just discovered this site and am wondering if anyone could offer some guidance. While stationed in Sicily in 1979, I was in a head-on auto collision. Since Sigonella didn't have a hospital, I was medivac-ed to Naples where I had surgery for broken feet (with surgical screw) and broken knee. After a week, the nurse threatened me with a feeding tube if I didn't eat. I told her I couldn't open my jaws. They x-rayed and found both jaws broken. They didn't do ct scan or anything for my head injury. I was sent to Germany for my teeth to get wired. In 1991 a friend encouraged me to file a claim, which I did and was awarded 20% for ankle, 20% for knee and 0% for misaligned jaw. I didn't file a NOD or anything at the time. I also started having panic attacks in 1991 and agoraphobia (in my record) and subsequently had to quit my job in 1996. Since I lost my insurance, I haven't been to a doctor (except for a few minor things) in over 20 years. I've been reading a lot and see so many things I am eligible for file a claim for. Even things they put in their own c&p exam-- like TMJ and painful scars, etc. I have recently started going to the VA for medical and would like to make several claims. I have hep c from the blood transfusions in Naples, I just had a CT Scan and EEG (both with abnormalities) and I can not walk more than half a block without extreme pain in my feet, legs and hips. I have serious depression and rarely sleep or leave my home. I have much trouble with memory, cognition, etc., so it's hard for me to figure out where to begin. Any guidance or suggestions would help tremendously.
