  1. Awarded 100% P & T. Have many other illnesses that could account for additional SC. Advised by vet.rep to just let it go since I am not scheduled for any further examinations. In other words...don't rock the boat, leave well enough alone so your file doesn't get brought back up for review. That makes sense and you don't exactly get more than 100%. In otherwords is it worth the risk?
  2. Thanks for responding to my inquiry. It sounds like a legal crazy nightmare if you persue that avenue. You are right, there is no free lunch out there.
  3. Suppose you retire @ 62, draw reduced Social Security benefits. You subsequently become 100% P & T disabled from the VA. Now you are nearly 65 years old 3-4 months away. If you apply for SSDI would you then be eligible for those increased benefits ($) that you currently are not eligible for since you took early SS retirement? And for how long would that remain. What about the wife who draws from your account as well?
  4. Currently 100% PTSD schedular. Forced to retire due to PTSD @ 62. Drawing SS entitlement but at lower rate due to forced retirement. Should I apply for SSDI? If I do how does this affect my SS monthly income? If granted SSDI do I bump up to the entitlement that I would have received at 65? Or when I reach 65 in three years what happens to the SS-SSDI amounts? Does the wife who draws off of my SS record have a monitory change as well? How so? In otherwords, if I have to go through all of the paperwork of appyling, getting it all together etc., and my PTSD has me crippled is it worth my efforts? Maybe someone knows the answers to these questions. Thanks.
  5. SouthernBelle, you are very well spoken and have a lot of spunk which I admire. Keep up your vital efforts to see that all veterans are treated with dignity and respect.

  6. I am rated @ 100% and recently had two dental crowns put on by a private dentist. Not thinking that, nor actually knowing that I had full dental @ 100% from the VA. The question is, can I submit a bill to the VA and be reimbursed for the $2000 spent by me at the private dentist?
  7. In Dec. I was awarded an increase from 60% to 100% s.c. for PTSD, and Tinitus with a 0% for hearing loss. I have a multitude of other ailments as well. My question is should a s.c. veteran continue to file claims if they are @ 100% s.c. disabled? My particular award does not state that this is a perminent award and states that in the future it may be reviewed and could change depending upon my condition. So, should I file other claims for s.c. to build my case so that if a review of my 100% award was reduced, I would still have additional s.c. claims that would keep me at 100%? I am at 62 years old and just forced to retire due to health conditons so I am concerned that the VA could possibly reduce my s.c. award, which would place a hardship upon me and my family.
  8. Thanks for responding to my situation. People such as yourself have excellent knowledge and are such a big help. Unfortuantely service men and women have to turn to the internet for such help when it should be coming from the VA and agencies that are supposed to be helping vets. Most fortunately however this web site was established and is an excellent source for answers to questions and seeking solutions to our problems. Perhaps someone can answer this question. I have been going to the VA in Batavia for all my illnesses, receiving meds, seeing the Psychiatrist in charge of the PTSD program for about a year now and a social worker as well once a month etc. What is the next step for me to file for secondary connected diseases to my 50% rating for PTSD. Conditions include- Sleep Apnea, Glaucoma, Liver enzymes up probably due to meds that I am on for GERD, High blood pressure, meds for nightmares, insomnia, antidepressants so I don't pull the trigger some day, pills for ED which leave a lot to be desired etc. Do I get copies of my medical records from my primary doctor at the VA showing that I am on these medicines for these illnesses? Do I get a letter from the Psychiatrist stating I am on all these meds because of PTSD and that I am a serious Loonie Toone or what? Should my veterans service person be helping me and to what extent? The thing that bothers me is that all this evidence is in THEIR computer system and can be easily accessed by anyone of them at the flick of a button.
  9. Thanks for writing. I am learning so much from the forum and "Brothers" are offering very valuable help for which I appreciate so much. I am going to try to put everything all together i.e. the sleep apnea, high blood pressure, anxiety, PTSD, elevated liver enzymes, all the meds I take for insomnia, nightmares, major depression and all the rest and maybe I will get lucky. It all takes time and effort and lots of energy which is a challenge for me. God's Speed.
  10. Getting 10% for tinitus should not be a problem. I have and still am trying to get SC for hearing loss. Good luck with this. I have had three VA test at Buffalo and my case is in the mix right now. Can take a while to resolve.
  11. I would say great for you! Maybe relax a bit would be in order.

  12. Thank you for the reply. Batavia does have a very organized PTSD program with very nice people to work with. I appreciate everyone's comments. Thanks for this forum as well.
  13. Can't really take disability retirement because it cuts my retirement amount a great deal. I have been toughing it out for so so long, a few months more is about all that I can handle with respect to the stress and mental capability to deal with the work. All the drugs that I take make me feel lost and hopeless. I do have an excellent Dr. of Psychiatric medicine at the Batavia VA. He has been very helpful but I don't know how much he is willing to go to help me attempt to further my hope for greater SC. I didn't realize how messed up I have been until the last couple of years. God bless you all for your help.
  14. Thanks for responding. Yes I am working but finding it very difficult and will have to retire soon-probably in December...puts me close to SS. Should I get the VA Psy. Dr. to write a letter for me explaining that my depression, anxiety, high BP etc. is most likely secondary to the PTSD?
  15. I likewise-Nam 667-8, exposed to AO and have Glaucoma since war. To my knowledge not on AO list of SC disabilities.

  16. Question, Some time within this past year I had a hearing exam at Buffalo VA. Reason was that I had my eardrums blown out by a 4.2 motar being fired by my head in the darkness of the night in Nam. Couldn't hear for three days. No medical attention. Not documented. Having increasing difficulty hearing so the test showed "profound loss of higher freq". Given SC but 0 comp. Recently seemed hearing was becoming worse and had another test done at Buff. VA. Test showed loss of 30db from last test. Applied for increase in rating for SC loss. What chance do I have of receiving an increased rating. In reading the forum I note that some men have to be just about stone cold deaf in order to get a rating. Any thoughts?
  17. Question, Do I have cause for seeking higher SC disability, (currently 60%) of which 10% for tinnitus and 50% for PTSD, if I were to file for taking antidepressant Bupropion, Risperidone for intrusive thoughts-dreams/nightmares, Trazodone for insomnia, Vardenafil for ED, Valsartan for Blood Pressure, Prilosec for GERD and Lorazepam for anxiety??? I had a GAF score of 40 but that was probably on the high side. 4th. Inf. 1/12th. Nam 67-68.
