  1. John, you're right; recruiters aren't going to say that because it's a lie. Not everyone is hurt while in the service, not everyone files a claim. For those who need to file a claim...not everyone is denied and not everyone get's the runaround for 10 years.
  2. I would think this would help with your claim....make sure this info gets to your VARO, don't assume that they will have it. But I try not to guess anything that the VA does...
  3. My DEERS status is Medical Discharge (honorable). I'm 100% now, so the rating isn't an issue at all...just found it odd that when I asked before (more than once) the personnel folks refused to change my DD214. I also have 3 different discharge dates...LOL! I have two separate discharge certificates, with the dates about 2 years apart (for the TDRL) and the date on my DD214 doesn't match either one of them. I knew they had screwed my case up, but no one at the higher personnel level would listen.
  4. but we all know that would be the outcome and your intent....i mean, what else would your intent be of disrupting recruiting efforts? if you don't intend to hinder recruiting and keep young ppl from joining, then why not tell your msg to folks who have already joined?
  5. My DD214 reflects my former TDRL status....there were "Special Orders" cut that took me off TDRL and medically discharged me; but my DD214 was never changed; it still reads "Retirement". When I asked the personnel folks about having it changed, they said no. So according to my DD214........I'm retired???
  6. As a former recruiter...and a PROUD vet...talk like this seems almost un-patriotic to me. Just my opinion. If anyone wants to join the military to defend our great country, who are we to try to talk them out of it? I'd be proud if my boys wanted to join the military!
  7. No, I and my son's have ID cards....I was mentioning about how could I get a retiree ID card to match my DD214 that shows me as "retired" (which I know will never happen).
  8. Yup, that's how the process goes. Keep in mind that the VA and Soc Sec are separate entities, but you need to share info between them. In other words, just because you might get an approval from one, doesn't gurantee an approval from the other. Best of luck.
  9. rental--i marked myself a very long time ago!
  10. dh- you do things your way and i'll do them mine; i know that isn't the only way to get heard...just one of many ways.
  11. Thanks Pete. Suicide isn't a subject to make fun of. Living with daily suicidal feelings is no way to live...and that's how it is for me and so far the VA has no answer for it. I've had several suicide attempts, some serious. There are times I truly need to reach out for help because my own thoughts scare me. The new chat line has been a great add on and help to me as I don't like to call anyone...I don't do well on the phone. Might sound odd; but just how it is. I've had two family members who committed suicide. Thanks in advance for not taking the subject lightly.
  12. I just figure it's better than sitting around doing nothing...
  13. Ohio must be the only place then that prices are going up....
  14. Thanks! I figured mine out and I should be getting paid $16.35 vs $12.45 that they have been paying me. Somehow I highly doubt that when I take the actual mileage into the Dayton VAMC that they will take my word for it though....
  15. Rental- Where do you live that the costs of everything is down? Yes, gas is down, milk is down; but not much else.
  16. Berta- My DD214 still shows my reason for discharge as "retirement"....LOL! When I told the personnel folks that it needed to be changed to a "medical discharge" they told me it didn't matter! Just wish I could get the ID card to go along with it.....
  17. I know we gripe on here about why we aren't getting any COLA raise this year or in the future as far as we can tell. So far the VA hasn't been very forthcoming with a good answer, er, excuse. Soooo....lets ask. All of us, on the same day. We can pick a day and every send an IRIS inquiry asking the question on the same day. Bombard their system. Hey, what can it hurt? Thoughts?
  18. Wonder why this is only for "recently injured" vets? Here's another example of the VA dividing up vets..... This is from the VA home page. 2009 Summer Sports Clinic Recently-injured Veterans will learn how to surf, kayak, sail and enjoy other summer sports at the second annual National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic September 20 - 25 in San Diego, CA. The clinic introduces recently-injured Veterans to adaptive sports to renew their self confidence through sports activities. Participation is open to military Veterans who are eligible for VA medical care and who have orthopedic amputations, traumatic brain injuries, burn injuries, psychological trauma, certain neurological conditions, visual impairment, spinal cord injuries and other injuries.
  19. pete992- at the Dayton VAMC you cannot collect your travel pay until after your appt, they check the time in the computer. but you stand in the first line to get the printout and go to the second line to get paid...makes no sense.
  20. No offense....but is there a way to verify this? There have been so many scare tactic stories that have turned out to be untrue...I'm a very skeptical person but hate to see everyone put in panic mode like this.
  21. It's back up and running now. It's not the call-in number, it's a new chat line that serves the same purpose. Keeps me going sometimes....
  22. This is the msg currently posted at this site...this msg has been there all evening: Veterans Chat is not available at this time. Please visit again during the hours of operation: Available 24/7. B) :D :D
