  1. postman56, I did get some good information off of this forum, but one that was really helpful for me was www.pebforum.com. The guy who created www.pebforum.com, Jason, is a former Army JAG officer who represented soldiers going through the MEB/PEB process. I completed the MEB/PEB process and was medicallly retired(Chapter 61) in February of 2010. Both of the things I was rated for from the VA were for combat related issues; PTSD and my knees. I am not sure if I was fortunate or if this is what you can expect, but the Army MEB and PEB findings were pretty much identical to the VA. MEB/PEB process is required by law to use the same rating criteria as the VA. I received 30% from the VA for PTSD and 10% for my knees. The MEB/PEB found that my PTSD and Knees problems were a direct result of armed conflict and that both factors made me unfit for service because my MOS is 21B. The Army put me in the same category as the VA for PTSD, 30%, but the law that PDES has to follow is to give a minimum of 50% for any psychological condition that makes a soldier unfit for service. The army also diagnosed my knees with the same problem, but gave me a higher rating. I received 10% for each knee and a bilateral factor of 1.5%. After the same fuzzy math computation that the VA uses I ended up with 60%. I think the fact that I submitted all documentation from the VA, including the documentation from my regular shrink visits at the VA, gave me a concrete base for my case. I feel that it did not leave anything up to chance. Best of Luck to you, it can be a pain. I really suggest checking out www.pebforum.com, and reading some of the threads. Jason the site Admin/former JAG lawyer is pretty good about answering questions.
  2. You may also want to have sleep study done to make sure you dont have sleep apneia. I currently have 30% rating for PTSD and am considering hahving a sleep study done. I have several friends who also have PTSD and had a sleep study done at the VA hospital and they were diagnosed with sleep apneia as one of the symptoms of their PTSD. I am having the same problem as well. Some of the meds work for a few months and then it starts all over again. All you want to do is get a good night sleep but you cant and that makes your anxiety worse. Then your anxiety keeps you from sleeping.
  3. Thanks for the advice and support I finished the process of making sure all of my medical records are up to date with the National Guard so that the MEB can't kick my packet back for not being up to date. My packet will be sent to the MEB this week.
  4. I am working directly with my S-1(army for BN Personel) to get everything together. I told him that I will provide him with all medical documentation to include in my packet. I already have everything, stressor letter, letter from wife and family about the impact on my life, medical records from VA( C&P records and dissability award letters), all army medical records, and records from civilian orthopedic and psychiatrist. I am not trusting them to get all of my medical documentation thats why I told him I would provide the medical records. I am currently a SSG(E-6) with 4 years active duty and 8 years in the guard with 1 1/2 of those years mobilized. I also thought they changed CRSC(i think thats what its called) about a year ago. To allow for the concurent receipt of VA and DOD benefits for combat related dissabilities if the DOD rating is 30% or more. Thanks for the advice.
  5. Thanks USMC_HVEQ, Thanks for the information, sounds like your situation was pretty similar. Its going to be about another month before my packet goes to the MEB. I was told that the MEB that my packet is going to is at Fort Sam Houston, because I live in Texas.
  6. I am still drilling. The MMRB has determined that I am not able to perform the duties for my current MOS(Combat Engineer). The purpose of the MEB is to determine if I my profile prevents me from changing to another MOS, which is unlikely since my profile prevents me from even wearing a helmet or participating in anything physical, cant even do the alternate 2.5 mile walk or bike ride for APFT. I just want to know if they take into consideration my current rating from the VA and also what happens at the PEB. Everything on my current P3 profile stems from incidents that occured while I was on Federal Orders deployed to Iraq. Because I am medically unfit for my current MOS due to my P3 from incidnets in Iraq, I go throught the active duty MEB/PEB process. I know this a weird order to do things, already having a VA rating prior to MEB/PEB. I initially went to the VA just to get help for my PTSD, but ended up with a 40% rating by the time it was all said and done.
  7. Thanks yoggie2 I understand that the MEB does not determine any type of physical dissiability rating and that the PEB assigns the dissability rating. From my understanding on the new army regulations about the MEB/PEB process as of January 2008 the DOD evaluation/rating scheme is supposed to use the the same system that the VA uses. Does anybody know if this is accurate?
  8. I am currently in the National Guard and am in the process of being sent to the MEB for PTSD to determine if I am still fit for duty. I spent 4 years in the Regular Army and have been in the National Guard for 8 years, 1 1/2 years of my national guard time was 6 month train up and 12 month deployment to Iraq. When I came back from Iraq I began having problems is social settings, marital problems, trouble concentrating at my civilian job and all kinds of other fun stuff. I almost closed lined a guy in a "man-dress" at the mall. After I was at home for about 6 months I finally decided to get help. I was eventually rated by the VA as 30% for PTSD and I also ended up getting another 10% for my knees. I still have one other claim for my back that I am appealing. About a year ago every soldier in my National Guard unit was required to get a physical. During my physical I let the Dr. know what medications I was on and informed they were for my PTSD. He immediately gave me a P3 profile for my knees and PTSD, PULHES is 333113. The Guard finally got around to sending my packet to the MMRB, and I was found unfit to perform my current MOS as a Combat Engineer. My packet is going to the MEB in January of 2009 and I am trying to find out what I should expect from the MEB. Do they take into consideration my current rating for PTSD from the VA? The Medical Evaluation Board that I my packet is going to is an Active Duty MEB, because the disabilities are combat related and occured during a NG Federal Mobilization. I appreciate any insight into this as it is something that I have been stressing about.
