  1. I was, as the title indicated, denied TDIU at the DRO level. In the decisions, it stated that my symptoms fit the diagnosis of PTSD too closely. They did uphold a previous decision rating me at 70% for PTSD, but basically called me a liar. I wrote letters, got my commanders backing, and everything I could to stay in the Army. The Army decided that I do not meet the standards to stay in, but the VA is undercuting my rating. If I am disabled, rate me correctly. If I am not disabled, let me stay in! What should I do now? I have already submitted a doctors statement that says "unemployable due to severe PTSD", My award letter from SSDI showing that it was for PTSD. I'm not sure what else to say. This is getting old.
  2. I submitted my application for the new Post 9/11 GI-Bill today. Since I am an 80% combined, OIF vet I thought I would receive the full amount of the new bill. The pamphlet says if your discharged due to a service connected disability you will receive the full amount, so long as you served a set amount of days, which I have. I am SC for PTSD, and as most know the one week discharge medical review that reservest get does'nt pick up everything. I was SC right after I got out but there is no percentage on my DD-214, and the people in the GI-Bill office will only use that to grant eligability for the new bill. The diffirence is $1000.00 a month, I dont think this is fair. I also suspect that there are many more people out there like me. Does anyone have an idea how to get around this? I spoke with the supervisors in the call office and got the same response over and over.
  3. I am currently in the waiting game with the VA over a claim for TDIU and in the process was awarded SSDI. I will soon get the award letter in the mail but will not receive payments until July. Would it be beneficial to submit the award letter as additional evidence to my claim. I do not yet know the merits on which I was awarded SSDI, if they were to base the award on something I am not service connected for would it make my claim look bad? I am 70% PTSD and I am trying to get Panic Disorder as a secondary claim, but that has not yet been approved, I'm concerned they approved SSDI on the Panic Disorder since my most recent notes made more mention of this diagnosis than any other. I just don't want to throw anything in the pot that could confuse a rater and make him throw the whole thing out. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I used to work at the VA and they did my C&P's at the same hospital also, I think they just dont notice and it might work in your favor. Make sure you explain specific examples of when you were exposed to noise, for tinnitus it does not have to be loud burst of noise but constant exposure. They will give you an audiogram but they will also ask for a first hand account of your experience and what you feel caused your hearing loss/tinnitus. It will help if you have any awards placing you in combat such as in my case multiple IED's, if you have any of these submit them right away. Good luck medic! Scouts Out!
  5. Its not what you wear, its who you call before you make a mistake and educate someone about the military. I recomend getting in touch with the VetCenter, it helped me a lot! Med's only do so much, the rest is up to you. And please try not to drink, at least not alone. It will only get you into trouble, the kind that military ID card cant get you out of. Scouts Out!
  6. I'll look into county, but I think that GA-DAV looks like the way to go. Thanks again for the help!
  7. I am trying to help direct my uncle to a good VSO. He lives in Macon, GA. Does anyone know someone in that area? The DAV is hours from his house and in his condition it would not be an option.
  8. Finnaly got my VA doctors to write a statement considering the situation and my unit is considering the situation. I think they will do what they are supposed to now. I keep everybody posted.
  9. I hate to tell you but once you use the VocRehab Chapter 31 you cannot use your GI Bill again. The reason for this is as they explained it to me, both programs come from the same pot of money. They should have explained this better and you might be able to go to a supervisor but they will probably say the direct deposit form you completed with your name on it is proof that you were told (even if you were not) The problem is if you have post 911 entitlement that means your GI Bill would stand to be pretty large come August, and the VA does not like to pay the larger sum. It stands to reason that they will try there best to keep you on Chapter 31. Good luck!
  10. I have given all the paperwork I can give to my unit and they disregard it. I have a profile, but what they are saying now is that I am going to retrain into some sort of desk job so that im not in a combat MOS anymore. As far as the PTSD symptoms someone who really has PTSD does not have to put on a show, but I take being a good soldier very seriously, so my command doesnt realize the extent of my conditions. My problems kickin when when im not in the uniform. Sometimes I think a deployment might fix everything left over from the last one. It's hard to match the pride you have when you wear the uniform, and this is my last chance ever.
  11. Thats right I was told this weekend at drill I will be going back! I am combined 80% and 70% for PTSD. I'm at a loss for words. I do want to complete the last two years of my six year contract, but with everything going on, I'm just suprised. I just hope they can find something other than kickin down doors for this old Scout to do. On the good side maby this deployment they will not loose my medical record!
  12. The National Guard is kind of odd but I think they will be discharging me soon at least they have been telling me this for a year or so. The last word was that the state was going to review my file for a state MOS Medical Review Board. If that is approved for further action it will then be forwarded to a active duty MEB leading to a PEB. It is not my goal to stay on TDIU for a long time but I could use it right now while I'm in therapy and trying to take a few classes. Also I'm concerned the PEB will try to reduce my disability rating, I have heard of several people say that the PEB does not grant appropriate ratings especially for people with PTSD. Would the PEB ratings supersede the decision already made by the VA?
  13. Hello all, and thank you for your help this will be my first post but by no means the first visit to the site. Your considerate and compassionate help for veterans suffering from disability's seen and unseen is in keeping with that of true patriots. That said down to the thick of it I am a veteran of the recent conflict in Iraq and I am still in the Florida national Guard. I am currently rated at combined 80% (70% PTSD--10%Tinnitus--10% Barrett's Esophagus--10% IBS) I have recently lost my job due to persistent panic attacks and I have been diagnosed by my VA psychiatrist with panic disorder with agoraphobia which he feels is related to my PTSD. So given all of this information I filed a claim for panic disorder secondary, and TDIU and for TBI with new and material evidence as it was previously denied stating that "I was not injured in Iraq," but then it hit me! While working I applied for VocRehab and was approved. I have only had one appointment and my next is on the 13th. What do I do? If I go to school will I be denied TDIU? I can make my money stretch but 80% only goes so far. Should I just drop my classes for now and wait? Any advice would help. Scouts out!!!
