I received the adaptive housing grant last year and the max was$ 60,000 and yes you can use as down payment if the existing house you want to buy meets the criteria of adaptive housing. It took between 6 mos and a year to get it autherized. It is a slow process but once it is approved you will find the SAH people very friendly and willing to work with you on every detail.Just make sure you get everything you need for the future.Good luck

  11. one person will come to your home and explain what you are entitled to and leave brochures showing diminsions etc.and go over plans for you.they will call to schedule an appointment first.it is very helpful if you can make a sketch of what you want.therapeutic bathtubs requires a doctors prescription but you can have a roll-in shower.you should ask for everything you want and let them decide what is not available for you.for sunrooms i would use the independent living program.if you have more questions you can email me and i will be glad to help.

  13. Yes you can apply any leftover funds to your mortgage or use it at a later date for any other repairs or remodeling you may need.I am in the process of remodeling using the SAH grant and my left over funds will be applied to my mortgage.Once you have gotten a contractor and agree on the price the SAH money will be put in an escrow account with your instructions as to how it will be distributed.Hope this helps.

  18. Yes Berta the VA dr. did opine negatively and Dr.B. also added a rebuttal to the supplemental statement of claim thereby giving two opinions.I was given two c&p exams for the same diagnosis, one was in 2000 but dr. did not have my records and the other in 2005 with the records.I also gave dr.B a copy of my smrs to use in his opinion. The wording in the remand states "On the claim for RA with Felty's syndrome, arrange to have the veterans file reviewed by a VA rheumatologist to determine whether it is as loeast as likely as not that the RA had onset during service, considering accepted medical principles, pertaining to the history, manifestations, clinical course, and character of RA.The examiner is asked to comment on the opinion of dr.B.that predicated the diagnosis of RA on the recollections of the veterans spouse that in july 1955 the veteran had a problem with swelling of his hands and had difficulty removing a ring. In formulating the medical opinion the rheumatologist is asked to consider that the term at least as likely as not does not mean within the realm of possibility. After the above has been completed, adjudicate the claim. If the determination remains adverse, furnish the veteran a supplemental statement of the case and return the case to the board."
  19. Just recieved the brown envelope from BVA and it was a remand.I have heard that some vets wait for years for the RO to comply and at age 70 I don't have a bunch of those left.So I need some real advice on what to do next since the letter states a remand cannot be appealed to the court of appeals. It appears to me according to the wording of the remand that they are doctor shopping since they asked the RO to get a VA doctor opinion to rebutt the IMO from Dr. B.So I need some good solid advice as to how to approach and what is the next step.Should I try to find a lawyer at this stage or wait it out?
  20. Thanks Pete,as you know the Wacco office moves at a snails pace,I am still waiting to hear from the Loan Gauranty Dept to advise me as to whats next step. You are probly right about the son doing a better job on the shower and for sure a lot faster. You can at least get it built like you want it.As for the AC it will depend on how you phrase the request, your breathing problems, and the rehab guy, some are better than others. You can use the ILS program for lots of projects good luck with this.
  21. Yes Ricky I did have to submit a new claim form for the SAH.My SMC was awarded last year but prosthetic dept.said I would have to submit new claim for SAH.and also auto.My award letter doesn't show anything with the amount for SAH.
  22. Thank you Ricky,as always you have been very knowledgeable and helpful to veterans.
