  1. I just recieved the letter stating I have qualified for adaptive housing and would like to know what happens next. The letter says someone from the loan guaranty office will contact me but no other details.I just recently bought a new house and paid to have the doors widened and ramps built but would like to use the grant for part of the mortgage.I did apply for this before I bought but it has taken them 8 months to decide.I did however utilize the V.A. loan for the mortgage.I am very anxious to find out how the next step progresses so if anyone has used this please reply
  2. willing to check into reasons for delays and report to you honesstly
  3. when I needed a chair I asked my PC doctor and he put in a consult to the rehab dept and they issued the chair. If you are wanting to use a chair because the scooter wont fit thru the doors then you wont be able to get the chair thru the doors either as the chair is 6 inches wider.I have both a chair (invacare pronto)and a scooter (merit 3 wheel).I use the scooter for moving around the outdoors and going to drs.appointmentssand the chair only inside the house but have had the doorways widened to 36 inch.I got my scooter thru medicare and the chair from VA but it is not difficult to deal with the rehab people.
  4. yes a used van or suv thats already equipt to carry a wheelchair or scooter inside
  5. while we are on this subject, does anyone on the board here know of or has a good used wheelchair or scooter van thats for sale.at my age it makes no sense to buy a new one but can't seem to find a reliable source for used .
  6. Has anyone on the board applied or used this benefit? If so how long does the entire process take from request to recieving the actual grant? What all is involved in the process and how do they pay the grant.I am looking to purchase a new adapted house and need to understand the process.
  7. can you please explain the programs you speak of.I am also concerned about what happens when (not if) I die so the house will be paid and not leave a huge mortgage.
  8. can anyone using the VA home loan program explain the advantages/disadvantages of using the VA.All the info I can find shows the interest rates are the same, you still have to have credit life insurance, all the closing and fees are the same and lenders are more dificult to find.So please shine a big light on this for me.
  9. how do you use the docket number to research travel board decisions and where can I go to speak to someone at the VBA? I know I have seen this info here but can't seem to find it using the search function. My travel board was held 02/05/08 and only 07 is showed in bva decisions.
  10. I used the ILS(independent living service)program from the rehab department to modify and rebuild my bathroom. They moved one wall and added a marble walkin/roll-in shower and enlarged the doors for wheelchair access.Have you tried to use that rsource instead of the grants? This way you don't lose anything and it was all completed within a ccouple of months from applying.Good luck.
  11. I have googled the name Dr. Dennis Barson and also searched BVA decisions and come up with absolutely zilch so I simply suggest buyer beware.
  12. Recieved a letter today stating my Travel Board hearing has been scheduled for Feb.5th 08 at the Waco office.I requested this hearing 9/03 and it finally happenes after more than 4 years.I am hoping we don't have icey roads then as it is a 3 1/2 hour drive for me.Very nervous but anxious to finally get this over with.I feel that I have more than enough evidence on my side but we are dealing with a very adversarial VA.If by chance I still fail to convince them I will go ahead with a lawyer as the SO I now have has proven to be useless.
  13. rheumatology depends largely on results of blood tests and fluids drawn from swolen joints. They generally look for the r factor in blood work.I have had rheumatoid arthritis since 1975,there are lots of good treatments nowadays for this condition.
  14. I have recieved and answered 3 SSOC's to my ongoing claim that has been awaiting a travel board hearing since sept.2003.On friday I recived another SSOC and I'm wondering if this is just another delaying tactic since they all are repeats of the first one.Is there a requirement to answer the SSOC or is it even wise to just ignore it and wait. What are the regs regarding this?
  15. mine came also.woohoo,,just in time for my new fall wardrobe LOL B)
  16. It doesn't usually take months to get your refund of past meds. When I took my award letter to the vamc my refund was sent to me within 6 weeks. It does take a llittle time to pull up all your back payments records and determine your refund but not months.Congrats on your award, live well.
  17. Only send copies,DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS.I simply copied mine on the scanner and sent them in with the application
  18. You will also need to fill out an OHI form that you can download from the Champva site.I had to resend this form 5 times before they finally got it.the last time i just faxed it to them.the OHI form is Other Health Insurance and they will not send the card without it.
  19. I am 100% P&T schedular-asbestosis effective May 2006 awaiting a&a decision,A&A granted effective 10/06
  20. Congratulations on a job well done betrayed! Now try to relax a little and enjoy the benefits deserved and long awaited.Take your wife out for a nice dinner and give thanks where due.
  21. I recieved my letter today stating my rating increased to 100% schedular T&P with chapter 35 benefits retro to 5-06 due to the use of O2 on a daily basis.SMC claim is still at the rating board.Thank the Lord they finally got the decision right except for effective date but not sure if I want to go thru the haassle any more.Still have a claim awaiting travel board with a even earlier effective date so may just wait a little longer and see how that plays out.I've got 60 days to decide and really need a break from all this.I really would not have gotten this far without the help from everyone here at Hadit. You guys and gals are the greatest.
  22. if you are granted sc at 100% schedular but soc does not say t&p does this mean you are not entitled to the same benefits as someone with 60%tdiu t&p?
  23. Lets suppose this is true, now where does a veteran find a lawyer to hire at this time.Lawyers are still very unwilling to take on veterans claims at this time
