  1. I filed for a claim for PTSD and Lower Back Pain in March of 09. I received an answer after two C&P exams and lots of evidence in my records. I was rated at 60 % in Sept 09. I recieved my back pay immediately into my account and have been receiving my checks on the first of the month. I am so thankful....dont get discouraged all of you veterans out there, if you have evidence in your records and it is sitting in front of the doctor at your C&P exam then you will get what is comming to you...I had some people tell me that they didnt think I had a chance of getting my benefits, and as soon as my evidence and exams hit the VA regional office they immediately gave me what I had comming to me.
  2. I was receiving counseling while I was in the service, but did they put anything in my service record about it I dont know? I do know where I went and had my appointments I guess I will have to do some research.
  3. Hi, I started a PTSD topic here and it has just disappeared does anyone know where it went? Thanks for the info Sharon very much appreaciated.
  4. He was being treated! More then once, and he served in several war zones, he did make rank quickly when it came to serving his country and doing his job went above the norm and had perfect evaluations, I think he was having a hard time adjusting to civilian life especially when he was used to being in charge ect............ yes the military was treating him in fact he spent 6 weeks in the hospital for inpatient alcohol treatment...... please explain to me what you mean by service connected he is deceased. Christine
  5. Carlie, First of all I want to thank you for all the information you have shared with me, I do appreciate the facts you have put before me, I was driving down the road today and started thinking about the whole scenerio and trying to figure out why I was so stressed about about the whole situation and this is what I have come up with, my VSO (veteran service office) told me when I first started my claim that even though my social worker and my Dr. told me I had PTSD I need to collect as much evidence as I could to prove my claim. It is on the VA notes about the sexual assault etc...... but he told me that would not be enough proof even if the doctor had put in the notes, also because of other things that have happend which I feel caused my PTSD so he is telling me to compile as much evidence in paperwork as i can to prove my claim and your telling me the evidence that i am compiling could hurt my claim. Do you feel I should just let them search my VA hospital records and my medical records and leave it at that or should I submit all of the paperwork I have collected, please explain to me why you feel if I submitt this paper work it will hurt my claim, I am just trying to understand and not pointing fingers thank you for your help. 6. I contacted my VSO yesterday and asked him if he thought this all was a waste of time and he got really upset and gave me this speech about how he has been doing this for years and knows what claims have the potential to win, and to not pay attention to what anybody else is saying, I was forced to live in Coed barracks in Hawaii anybody that was single was not allowed to live off base, which ment that I had to share living areas with many other male service members, I was living in the barracks when I was sexually assaulted and was active duty at the time but was afraid to report anything due to the fact that i had to live in he same place that these people were living, and I am talking lots of people, there were two high rise barracks on top of I do not know how many buildings that were one level that was all located on one area, when I was on duty one night a friend of mine was killed at the gate, he was standing gate guard and a drunk service member from the Army base hit him and drug him by the car before he even realized what he had done, I was the one that had to report it to the Admiral via the LT. I went to his barracks to see if his family had come to town to get his personal belonging and I was concerned about meeting the family, while I was at the barracks I was sexually assaulted by one of the male roomates he had. I also stood military police duty as well (shore patrol) in Pearl Harbor there I witness things that I should not have seen and also met my husband while on patrol who was stationed on a ship in Pearl Harbor, I was legally married to him and still on active duty, I have made contact with some of his friends who were stationed on the ship with him who witnessed his actions and how he would get out of control and get violent they are submitting letters to me soon and they will be going with my paper work. I will try to keep the paperwork to a minimum and I am getting ready to send it out I probably wont win but my VSO demands I continue this because he feels I have the potential to win. 7. I was in the military when the abuse started, we were stationed together in Pearl Harbor and I have proof of that, we were married in 1987 and I got out of the service in 1988, but maybe you right this might be a waste of time, but what about the sexual trauma how do I prove that?
  8. My husband was still on active duty when the incidents happend yes, and I was still on active duty when incidents happened yes, we were living in military housing and the shore patrol was called out but would this incident still be on record in Pearl Harbor, some of the incidents happend when I was a dependent as well I did not become a dependent till after I was out of the military, I realize I have to prove this happened while I was in the military for the time frame, I have people that witnessed the situation submitting letters but would they keep records of incidents that happend that long ago.. Yes my children are in counseling have been for years my daughter has to take antidepressents. Do I receive DIC pension no I do not. My husband commited suicide a little less then two years after he got out of the military. What is a lay statement? A statement from people who witnessed the incidents. This was a man who served during time of war and performed as a 4.0 sailor was voted Sailor of the year and made Chief Petty Officer in 9 years of service when he was 27 years old, my daughter and I pinned his anchors on at the ceremony, he was a great asset to the military and his country but had issues with depression and alcohol.
  9. There has been several things written in my record at the VA hospital PTSD from witnessing my husband suicide is what the doctor put in the notes, the second set of notes written by a social worker was PTSD from sexual trauma and my husband suicide and being physically abused as well. The social worker that did that last notes gave me a GAF score for 45 I believe. The social worker wrote a big write up in the notes how strongly she feels I have PTSD because of all of all of the above. I am currently contacted some of my late husbands friends who witnessed some of his actions while we were living in military housing the incident where my husband broke out windows in the house with his fist to the point where I had to call the military police to come get him he was so out of control, I was in the military at the time, he was under th influence of alcohol and was mad because I would not give him his keys and let him drive drunk, his friends are going to send more letters and I will be submitting them with my claim. My son now is considered disabled mentally as well and will he will be turning 18 soon, I feel he has PTSD, my sons money will stop soon, he still lives with me and is very dependent on me to the point that if I dont fix him something to eat and tell him to sit down and eat he will not eat now remember I was physically abused and threatened with a gun while I was pregnant with this child. There has been not rating in the notes just Gaf scores, I have not submitting my paperwork and been in front of a doctor for the C exam or whatever they call it but if i do go for the exam the doctor that diagnosed me with PTSd is the one that does them around here at the Va hospital, oh yes before I forget I also have notes to submitt my a psy doctor that was counseling both of us after he had put a gun to my head when I was pregnant it also states in the notes that he threatened me with knifes and it states domestic violence severe.
  10. Carlie, I met my husband when I was in the service patroling on Pearl Harbor piers in Hawaii, between my husband and I we put in 23 years of active duty, when I was living in miliary housing he started busting out all the windows with his fist and put a gun to my head when I was pregnant and threatened me with knifes choked me I do not know how many times, I also was sexually assaulted when living in coed barracks shen stationed in Hawaii, this is what the doctor thinks created my PTSD, I was in the military when I met him. 11. Honestly I am new here and was looking or a response on the board to my question and did not see one for a long time so i thought that I submitted it wrong and I resubmitted it again, no I wasnt looking for different response just trying get used to to the boards, I dont expect it to be an automatic win........ your right, and hey maybe this is all a waste of my time. I am still raising children of a war vet that is now deceased, this man dedicated 16 years of active duty to this country and his kids got nothing!!!
  12. The paper work I am submitting are from doctors and doctors notes relating to my condition, the condition has been going on for years and I have nver put a claim in for it, I have been out of the military for a while, the paper work that I do have is like emergency room visits where doctors have stated I have come in with panic attacks. Other paper work is Doctors notes from PSY Doctors I have seen at the VA hospital, all are pertinent to my situation. Do you see any reason I should cut this paper work down or should I submit it all it all pertains to the treatment and diagnoses I have had to PTSD and how long I have had it.
  13. Sorry I had to start over again, I have a stack of papers a foot high I am going to be submitting with my claim, maybe this is a waste of time, I dont know all I know is I am not the same person I was before I left here to go in the service and I want my life back and for some reason it just doesnt seem to be happening, I do have documents supporting how bad I have had panic attacks for the last 10 years since I have back home, I am also a widow of a Chief Petty Officer and the mother of his two children I raised by my self because he died when he was 36 years old, my son has been diagnosed with PTSD as well due to the trauma of his fathers death. I met my husband while I was in ther service. Maybe they will not approve my PTSD I am going to submit my paper work. I am currently in treatment. I have all the notes from the treatment I am currently seeing a person who said I had PTSD and she gave me a GAF score of somewhere around 40. I did hear from them today and it only took 8 weeks it was just a letter telling me they wanted all my paperwork.
  14. I am new to this site everyone so please bear with me if I am posting in the same topic all the time? I have been seen by doctors at the Va four the last 10 years, I have already been diagnosed by a Va doctor he said that I had PTSD, they are notes everywhere in the system. I have emergeny rooms visits where I have had major panic attacks and ended up in the emergency room when I really thought I was dieing I have 10 years of that, I have had to be on constand medication for the last 0 OIF vet, so luckily for me, they want to push those cases through the quickest. Have you been in treatment? if so, get all the notes from all the VA clinics you have been to. Do you have your military medical records? you will need these as well. Have you filed a formal appeal yet? you can set one up on VONAPP yourself. This will set your effective date for when and if your claim is approved, you will be back dated to. get copies of all notes (VA related, not all have each others notes, so you must request them). get your current doctor to give you a diagnoses and copy of such. sign up for a veteran service rep (VFW, AMerican Legion, DAV etc), they will help you out and do the leg work, but don't expect it to be super fast. If you want super fast, you do the running around and requesting. make sure a claim was filed and get the date. if claim not filed, use VONAPP system online yourself. Get the claim filed while you are gathering your information. write a stressor letter (say what sysmptoms you have, what the severity of each symptoms are and the effect they have on your life and ability to work. get family members or buddies that served with you that can talk about in a letter how you've changed before service and after becuase of ptsd. VA will acknowledge your claim has be rec'd and will tell you what is expected next. VA will schedule a C&P exam. (this takes a while, use the inquiry system to find out when the appt is), this appt carries most of the weight in your case. the c&P interviewer will review your case and then ask you predtermined questions. After you exam, it takes about week or less, although some cases could be more, for the interviewer to submit a formal report and diagnosis, whether you have ptsd or not and depending on what they say is how they put you into the categories (0,10,30,50,70,100 %). I must say it is very hard to get the higher percentages. You must show prolonged problems which are chronic. depending on your VARO it may take a few months for them to issue a decision. the key is once you get that c&P exam submitted you'll be much closer. Do research through this site and any other sites you can. Look up criteria for ptsd, symptoms etc. Do your homework so you don't get screwed. I hope this helped a little
  15. I have been out of the military since 1988, someone told me that they dont think I will win a claim putting it in after being out all these years. I am putting in the claim now because my social security survivors benefits stopped and I am still raising children of a deceased veteran who served 16 years active duty mostly on ships and some in war zones. I met him while I was in the service, and his traumatic death traumatized me really bad to the point where i have to constant take meds or I will have constant panic attacks. I was told years ago that if I was collect social security I could not put in for military disability (someone told me wrong), I put in my claim over 1 months ago and I have not heard anything and they have not even asked me for my paperwork..... on my proof ...any advice.....
  16. I just recently put a claim in for PTSD, my VA rep told me I would probably here from them in a month, and I have not so I called him today and he said oh give them another couple of weeks, I have not been able to submit my paperwork I have proving my PTSD or been ask to see a Dr. yet to be evaluated. I have been being seen for close to 10 years at the VA hospital near here for depression, anxiety and panics and doctors at the VA have put in the reports that they felt I had PTSD in fact they were the ones that brought it to my attention, now I feel after all these years that I should submit a claim. Is it normal to sit around and wait a month before they ask you for your paper work and to see a doctor, can someone tell me the proper steps I should take with all of this?
