  1. I am 100% P&T Ptsd, have been for 8 yrs.

When I die, do "all my dependent" benefits cancel, including Champva, which has been a true life saver. years ago, same ?, Champva remains forever once u are 100% P&T, correct?. I am 69 yrs old.

    John

  2. I am 30% PTSD (2004), 100%PTSD (2009) and then 100%PTSD+Permanent and Total (2014).(Timeline)

My question, yesterday had "medicine review" at the PTSD Clinic, have never missed an appointment in all these years. Dr. was "difficult" to the point he stated "there is the door, you can leave " (twice) and stated he would continue my medication as has been for last few years, which works. I was in fact somewhat rude. Medication for anxiety he said would continue was "was not" renewed" but placed on "unknown status"

Can he flag a "new" C&P" or make any negative impact regarding my benefits or award?

I am currently 69 yrs old. former Special Forces Vietnam.

    Thank You

    John

  3. I recently was awarded "permanent and total" and have been 100% for PTSD for 3 years.

    Question:

1: On "watchdog" forum, states you must maintain 100% P&T status for 10 years, prior your death' for your dependents to continue benefits after your death. Is this true. Champva says no, if you die tomorrow the dependent benefits would continue regardless the length of your 100% P&T status.

    2: Once awarded 100% P&T PTSD, are re-exams a norm. I am 64 and just can't mentally go through another C&P.

3: Wife and my 7 and 11 year old (yes "my" sons) are under a private insurance plan. Should they drop it when CHANPVA kicks in.

4: Is the percentage of veteran PTSD 100% P&T high for loosing that status.

I apologize for all these questions and have searched for the "correct answers", please help guide me throuh this "jungle".

    God Bless

  4. Got the letter today but a little confused.

states "Basic eligibility to Dependents Education Assistance is granted as the evidence shows the veteran currently has a total service-connected disability, permanent in nature, effective January 20 2012.

Nothing is said about Champva or no future exams.

Are my dependents eligible for ChampVa benefits?

    God Bless

  5. John1, sound like your on the right track. If you are P&T and get your wife and kid's on ChampVA. Get all your medical and medicine co-pay to the date that the VA goes back for your service connection and file for refund to that date.

    Good luck

Was 30% for two years and have been 100% for last three years. The application filed for P&T was Jan. 2012 (this year).

Are saying I can go back to the date I became 100%??

    God Bless

  6. Am 100% PTSD and filed for it to become P&T and no further exams as of Jan 2012.( mentally, just can't take anymore C&P exams)

Letter of decision is in the mail and should get it this week.

If P&T is awarded where do I go to find the benefits. I am 64 and have 2 minor children and a wife. Any kind of "retro"

    benefits?

    God Bless

  7. JOHN1 - I agree, it should be enough. Have you requested P&T?? Remember they take into consideration your age, length of disability, and prognosis when deciding P&T, also.

    pr

yes, the current claim is for my status to be changed from 100% PTSD to "100% PTSD Permanent and Total". My age is 63.

  8. Thanks so very much for every ones help.

The C&P I just got stated " The veteran clearly continues to be unemployable due to his ptsd and depression and continues to be totally disabled from these conditions."

Again, I am currently 100% PTSD and have applied for "Permanent and Total". Is this enough to get "Permanent and Total" in your opinion. I feel it is.

    God Bless

  9. My therapist and my family physician are both giving me letters to the fact PTSD has gotten worse and they feel it is a "permanent and total disabilty and can not return to the workplace"

My question is should I give a copy to the examiner next week at the C&P or just forward only to regional office as they requested. Do you send the "originals" or a copy".

    God Bless

  10. Hey guys, just chiming in here.

Evandc, just so you know, sometimes you CAN be reduced when claiming either an increase, a P&T, or other ancillary benefits if the exam is done & they find your condition has improved. It may be BS, but unfortunately it's a real thing that can happen. This isn't to scare anyone, it's just a casualty of VA.

Re "The lady stated not everyone will gets the "full exam "but only "will talk to you"...I'm guessing that means that you, the rater, & any involved service orgs will get the exam but it will only be discussed with you? Not too clear on that.

Re exams: we are now doing DBQs (disability benefits questionnaires) for almost all conditions, PTSD included. It's a more simplified version of the interview process (at least on paper). The doc will ask if you have certain symptoms & they get input into our programs to produce an evaluation. I agree re not showing up in a suit & talking about wanting to work. Just discuss the impact your symptoms are having on your activities of daily living and how you feel they have worsened and you should be ok. You don't have a protected evaluation, which only happens after 20 yrs, but at the 5 & 10 yr marks, they can't reduce you based on one exam. A future exam must be scheduled to ascertain that there is indeed a level of improvement shown, and not just that you had a good day that day symptoms-wise.

We don't necessarily consider ppl P&T after age 55 because it's been shown that many ppl keep working past that age. However John1, between your age, SSDI & the consistent rating since 2006, I think you'll get it.

    Thanks so much.

    What is "ppl"?

She meant I believe some vets get different depths of interviews!

If you were not worried about c%p exams you would not really be normal, but I don't think you have anything to worry about in this case. Just don't tell them you feel great and really want to get back to work. Don't arrive wearing a suit and tie and tell them everyone in you family worked until they were 95 and you want to keep up the tradition.

Thanks so very much for your support.
