  1. Is it possible or sometimes normal to be 100% PTSD and competent to be able your own financial affairs. What does one have to do with the other? "Incompentency" sounds like a lot of unecessary work when you feel you are competent! John
  2. I am 61 yrs old and have been 30% for 3 years and have file for increase and IU. Have not been able to work for five years and doc say I can not go into the workplace. My condition has really worsened in the past five- ten years. Thanks John
  3. If awarded 100% PTSD is P&T automatic or how does that work? Thanks John
  4. Thanks Pete! Hope the Doc's letter and CPA will get it taken care of before I get any paperwork and will be fairly soon! John
  5. While waiting for the "letter" is it possible for $ to hit your bank account without notification. I have received nothing in writing. I do know I was awarded increase and awaiting the competency decision since I sent in info from my Doc and Cpa. John
  6. If a " incompentency Proposal" file has been opened prior my receipt of decision for increase, can sending info that I am competent from my private doc and CPA help and "nip this in the bus" so as to say? John
  7. I understand most states say" found mentally incompetent by any "COURT". Would the VA be considered "A COURT" per say, regarding PTSD? John
  8. What are the odds of stopping a "proposed competency" issue before you get any notification per my last post? Thanks John
  9. I just faxed to VA the note from my doctor "He is capable of handling his own financial affairs". It was on a doctors presciption pad, as doctors sometimes do to save time, but I guess that is good enough. Told them if necessary i can get a letter saying same on letterhead. Any thoughts, Decision was made 2 weeks ago on increase of PTSD (very good) but have not recieved the letter yet. this was confirmed by 1-800, VSO and the Va hospital. Any input PLs. Thanks John
  10. ANYONE PLS Take note of my last post (this thread) about taking a chance of messing up my rating by saying I am competent with my private doc's statement? Don't know what to do. If I send a note from my private Doc stating I am competent to handle my "financial affairs" and the C&P Examiner states I am not, will I not mess up the rating they gave me( per 1-800 and my VSO) by contradicting his (raters)diagnosis. I have not received my letter yet but they are reviewing "proposed competency" at this time. In other words, try to kill the competency isssue before it is sent to me or should I wait for the letter? Hope I am not confusing you. I REALLY need help now on this as I could fax the info. Thanks John
  11. Berta: I have a note from my doc already that says I am competent to handle my finances. Because the C&P Exam stated reason for the rating was I could not retain info and no concentration. Am I taking a chance VA will reduce the rating if my doc isaying differnt from the VA Examiner. John PLEASE REPLY SOMEONE
  12. I was told by 1-800 my letter for my decision, which was made 2 weeks ago and an "incompetency was proposed" has not been released yet. 1-800 said this was unusual for them to hold it this long and maybe they were looking into something else. WHY? I an confused. John
  13. Berta: I could get a letter from my private doc and my CPA stating I am competent to handle my finances or do you feel I should just wait and leave it alone? I don't want to mess up the decision already rendered. Thanks
  14. Thanks again for your reply. One other question. If there is a "proposed incompentecy" issue and I an willing for my wife to be fiduciary, is it just a matter of paperwork or are we talking months. Thanks So Much John
  15. Berta: Thanks so very much for your much informative reply. I am just a little concerned I have not gotten any mail yet. I do not wish to "fight" the incompetency issue as it really does not matter to me and I surely do not wish to "muddy" the water at this point. Any idea how long it takes to get a decision letter after the decision is made? I think in this forum there has got to be "how long" statements in the thousands. I am an older Vet who just applied for benefits but was always "ashamed" and felt "guilty", and I know you know the rest. Jesus has and will always be my guide. God Bless John
  16. C&P Exam said "could nor handle financial affairs without spouse". I have no problem with her being assigned, but how long until I get the original letter from date decision was made then what? Sorry, just worn out. John
  17. 2 weeks ago I was told by my vso and the 1-800 a decision was made (PTSD increase) but there was a "compentency issue proposed". Have not gotten anything in the mail. Now what? John
  18. While waiting for my letter, if there is a competency issue, will they hold the retro pay until that is resolved and do they also the increase until such time also?? Thanks John
  19. In what cases does your age (55 plus) have to do with re-exams. I read this somewhere on the board but could not find it. Am I thinking of something else maybe regarding the 55 yr old rule, if there is one?? John
  20. I had to stop working 6-8 months prior to my "last date insured" (2005). I was granted 30% SC PTSD "PRIOR" my last date insured. I have just now applied for SSDI. My PTSD is really, really bas and have filed another claim with VA. Will I have a tough time getting SSDI now. Thanks John
