  1. Personally, I think vets do not challenge rating decisions with an appeal because once they do, that triggers a new compensation exam of ALL RATED DISABILITIES and this is a threat to present SC rating. There is potential that a new exam could inappropriately result in different findings and lower ratings. It is about confidence in the entire process...quite challenging and overwhelming, especially for vets that are thinking of appeal a decision for the FIRST time. God knows there are Iraqi and Afghanistan and other combat vets that need to appeal those low ball ratings.
  2. Howdy and Congrats ! your willingness to keep your attitude positive is an example, i hope you're life touches other struggling vet locally. Surely, there are vets returning from battle that have a seemingly endless fight with the VA to get the care and compensation for severe injuries and diseases they rightfully deserve. Kuddos !
  3. John...same here, my Percocet is now 42 of the ,5mg this month, then to zero, and my pain is very sharp...yoga..are they kidding....movement causes pain, can't imagine what yoga will do to that. I am fir looking into civilian doctor , hut also get morphine from VA...treading carefully when I see civ Dr. At almost 60 now. This new policy of VA PROBABLY due to abuses and OD...which literally hurts vets that actually use opiates for real pain management. Aaarrrgg.
  4. kelly and John...thanks for posting the real truth abt the real waste and abuse. there is another abuse and outihht lie perpetrated by the DHS and other agencies, that cast vets in an outrageous evil way...methodically undrr and devalued.
  5. I've read the post on this page and feel like crying. I know there is problem with Vets coming back from combat, have PTSD where the system is not taking care of the person's mental health or the person lacks something to get it or want to get it....i don;t know. Vets killing or other violence as a result of being 'trained' in the services is hard to overcome to act or feel as a caring, responsible, loving person. Military does NOT teach people to love ...period. I know this without being in combat....cannot imagine dealing with what happens coming out of the combat arms & combat support services Hate it when people game the system, really do. Abt 5.5 years of National Guard, and 10 Army and 5 years Navy (total 20) Had no combat as a Vietnam era, cold war, and desert storm era vet. My SC stuff is connected to injuries, and conditions of those injuries. God bless our vets of those old and these new generations.
  6. Thanks Spotz for the link...very helpful. I have been getting all paranoid about this sort of thing since the VA rated me mid last year where I termed ailment one thing and a VA EXAM shows it was a go for sciatica, but had a previous exam where it was a novo...so they rated in my favor. Then my NEW VA PCP asks me about this condition and I didn't treat the pain I have seriously enough..but since then sent a secured msg myhealthy vet, as to most serious pain and associated meds. I do all this because I had a off day, and wondered if the VA would have my Dr. Ask abt the condition. Told ya am paranoid. Will take irore seriously next time as I really do know better than to beat around the bush or am afraid of scans, exams and so on again...but those have already been done as good evidence. Subvet
  7. Thanks for the link. The VSO in action. What concerns me is error in claims, where the vet has to file an appeal and go thru the ENTIRE exam process again. It is unacceptable to me that the VA complete a new exam for every condition, where the appeal is for only for 1 or 2 of maybe 10 conditions. But this may be for another thread. SUbvet 90% SC SSDI
  8. I've seen here and there where people have had a rating change due to a supposed condition change (improvement) where it seems no exam was ordered by the VA, and the VA just decided some guy/gals condition changed and therefore degraded their rating. I think this is what i have noticed. How often does this happen, i am sure there must be a there a precedences (cfr). Not occurred with me, but when even one 10% rate change can degrade a person's rating down 10 or 20 %, it makes me wonder quite a bit. subvet 90% SC SSDI
  9. Very good post, info and advice...thanks justrluk Subvet
  10. John and Sierra, thanks much for replying. I may ask doctor for official notification...and I am sure brain chemistry is very effected. Has ANYONE ELSE encountered this weaning off and absolute elimination of opiates in your pain management care. ?
  11. Along with morphine (120 mg daily), take Oxycodone since 2007. last year VA Dr. reduced 30mg/325 a day to 20mg daily. Now due to VA POLICY, weaning me TOTALLY OFF the pain med, and will increase the long acting Morphine SO4. Told my Dr. that percocet is VERY EFFECTIVE for pain relief, even compared to morphine. Not targeting me personally, but result of nation wide VA plan to eliminate the opiate pain killer. NOT a good idea in my view....a blanket pain management policy where according to research, long acting pain meds are more effective according to my primary care. Scared about this to say the least. subvet 90% SC/SSDI
  12. Prescribed since 2007 post hip revision surgery-where there's now pain worse than ever. 2100 mg a day, but took only when I thought I needed it. Big mistake! :-( Started taking again and now realize there's pain didn't know I had until restarted. it's for me now, seemingly miracle drug given the pain relief from burning sharp sciatic pains. It does make me drowsy, sleepy where only want to stay in bed, away from everything. Given the chronic hip pain, with this med (Nuerotin), is sometimes roller coaster emotional experience, and sometimes very frustrating. subvet 90% SC & SSDI
  13. John, seems the earliest effective date is Oct 2010, the date of my letter/form to the VA. Think I figured something also to 2009, but looking into it also. Thanks for your reply.
  14. Carlie...I am getting that info together....rather a arduous task for me...but getting there. My dr. notes are NOT specifically listed in the evidence section....
  15. meghp0405, The VA has my SSDI award letter, they got it in 2010. Moreover, My VA Psych Dr. has notes that say my depression is due to my SC disabilities and is listed on the page when check in to VA clinic to give to doctor to see.. On another vein, I have had some student loans forgiven due to VA doc filling out the entirty of the section he is suppose to: 1 lender approved, 2 declined me. Just sent in my SSDI papers that says my evaluation period is 7 +years so the rest of them should be forgiven. With the VA Psych doctor's diagnosis (GAF 42 at the time), i am bewildered by the VA which has denied (not new or material) my depression as SC twice!!!
  16. My claim was actually decided back in June of 2013 , but was ongoing since the claim was submitted in Oct 2010. My SSDI was approved back in 2009 with retro. Like most vets, my claim was backlogged and all I could do is wait, the VSO could not expedite it and calling the VA 800 did not result in any better efficiency. TDIU was denied before so was not part of my Oct 2010 claim. I do credit my Cols, OH DAV VSO with knowing how to approach this, as my idea was different and probably narrow-minded at best. Still several "issues" were denied. A specialized type Nurse did the CP using the Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs). By the time the exam was done, I was in a lot of pain and was glad to get out of there to await the outcome, which is: Right Hip Prosethis (incl osteoarthitis residuals): Up to 70% from 50% with 10% Left hip osteoarthritis 10% Injury to wrist 20% Lumbosacral strain 10% paralysis of sciatic nerve. 10% metatarsalgia I sincerely hope all veterans that are still in the back log get your favorable decision very soon!
  17. My claim (some reopened due to new evidence, evidence they missed, severity change) been with VA since late Oct 2010. Phone calls to the 800 # result in them saying they are backlogged some 800k, plus a no email response from eVet and a no reply to email inquiiry to my congressmen. There are several changes they have to look at i understand...but they had the evidence they needed a year ago, and my portalat the eBenefits website is not updated to this fact. Frustrating. Not even a progress report in the gathering evidence phase of it all ! Never ever had to wait this long...understand the many combat vets returning from war zones to civilian life is quite a different thing than i experenced. subvet overall 60% 50% 20% 10% 0%
  18. 81150: Your post is probably as timely as ever. Pain meds and anti depressants is my answer. Even before I had SSDI approved (took only 90 days 1st time), and was 40%, I knew no matter what VA or Soc Sec said, I could not work..simply as that. A worsening back and 2 hip surgeries that resulted in progressively worse results make me a sort of slave to my conditions. Hopefully, you well get the compensations that reflect your disabilities that will make life easier to deal with and less stressful. Without morphine and Percocet and others, that much pain is certainly making life untenable. I also have the Health Buddy device that asks questions/input concerning depression and send to my eHealth Record..good way to reflect and self monitor. Good luck on your claims my friend. Subvet
  19. Never seen such comment from a C&P exam, but Just got my letter denying TDUI. Letters states "Medical evidence shows you cannot perform manual labor, but does not preclude you from sedentary work." before that the letter erroneously states that "service-connected conditions have mild to moderate effects on daily living." Somehow they do not consider taking 2 types of narcotic pain relievers and other meds so i can function. With your shrink's and therapist support for your TDUI, sound like more than just physcial disability should be important part of your claim...Good luck for your claim :)
  20. Thanks Stretch! I gave them all the paperwork they requested. However, one previous employer got bought out by another education institution, and have been to the new one twice, and made repeated phone calls to get the employment history form that would show hours/wages during my employment, but the old company had not responded. I told several VROs on the phone this, and one said they , the VROs should requests them..well not sure VA has these forms, and that this part of my claim has been successful..but VROs know I have made many attempts to get the paperwork sent in. Nevertheless less, claim is in final stages. Claim started in Late August 09. Subvet sure
  21. I have been told that the very people that assign disability ratings, are not doctors at all, rather beaucrats with no knowledge of medicine. Is this so? I have a TDUI claim that is at end of process according to customer service at Cleveland. Subvet
  22. Just found out that SSDA has me for primary diagnosis of Osteoarthritis and allied disorders, and secondary "mood disorders." That is as specific as they get i guess.
  23. Thank you Pete53...i just got a copy it and will send with supporting statement, and have filed the 21-8940 in late August.
  24. Thanks John...I was on temp 100% following hip revision surgery for 13 mo, extended 4 more months..that ended in March 09. So it would be more like 6 months back from today. I better find that SSDI award letter or request/obtain a copy asap!
  25. Thanks Carlie: 50% Right Hip Replacement (2 surgeries), 10% right wrist injury and 10% lower back pain=60% SSDI was granted, the only way i initially found out was the debit to my checking account...I went to the local office, and they printed out my monthly amt. Don't think the official letter detailed the disabilities.
