  1. ok thanks hamslice.  I got a new va rep today.  He said he didn't need any written statements from the heart doctor or electrocardiologist just a copy of my medical records and my current list of medications and he said he will take care of the rest.  Also, I did another c & p yesterday on my back.  It will be a few weeks before I see any results.  I'm kind of interested in treatment to relieve the 24/7 pain that is back there.. been missing vertebre and broken ribs for a long time and the pain is relentless.  I don't take any strong pain killers except advil.

  2. I was awarded 10% for hypertension back in 1997 and was taking vasotec 15 mg.  However, after incurring a severe heart condition, and I now take verapamil 240 mg er 1/ day and propafenone hydrochloride 325 mg er 2 / day.  I have a pacemaker for bradycardia, supraventricular tachychardia, and sss.  I gave up filing for the pacemaker.  My va rep said he didn't want to deal with it and my doctors won't give me any type of statements to help me out.  So, now I will file alone for my meds.  The question is..Do I upload my prescriptions on ebenefits.gov under a new claim or should I find a mental hospital and sign in?  Don't think i can take much more of this.

  3. I have a 10% disability for high blood pressure which goes back to 1995.  In 2009, I had a pacemaker put in for supraventricular tachycardia and bradycardia.  I went to the VA guy in my town and asked if it were possible to file a claim on the pacemaker and the arrhythmias.  He said I would need to ask my heart doctor "is the pacemaker secondary to high blood pressure?".  Well, my doctors won't stick their necks out for me because I told them it was for the VA back in 2009.  Any Ideas on what I can do?  I even gave my VA rep some internet print outs on arrhythmia causes and it lists high blood pressure as one of them... but he said it wasn't enough.

Also, I was in the delayed entry program prior to going to basic training.  The examiners said I could not go in right away and on line 58 they put down tachycardia.  So, I wore a heart monitor and everything checked out fine.  Then I went to basic training did my time. I gave the VA rep all that paperwork today and now I have to get my heart doctor to say something....i know he won't...So am i screwed?

  4. I'm a 30% disabled vet and was given the rating for high blood pressure and a fused 11th and 12th broken vertebrae. Recently, I was told by a cardiologist that I have Sudden Cardiac Death and Super Ventricular tachycardia. I was sent to an electrocardiologist for further evaluation and last Monday I got an SVT heart ablation which failed. Within a few minutes of the failure, they put in a permanent 2 wire pacemaker.

Today, I contacted my DAV rep in Big Springs, TX and he told me to get a statement from my doctors indicating if my high blood pressure was a cause for my SVT. I contacted my cardiologist's office and they said I had to talk with the electrocardiologist. They didn't want to stick their necks out. I got a feeling I'm going to get the run around on this one. What should I do?

    Thanks

    Update: 12-15-09

12-15-09 update.. Sorry time has gone by really fast. I had way too many doctor visits. I went ahead a got a complete ct scan of my entire spine. Maybe someone here can explain some of this. I really don't know what to expect.

    1. Cervical spondylosis involving c4-5, c5-6, c6-7 level.

    2. Schmorl's node involving superior endplate of C4 vertebral body

    3. Hypertrophy of the uncinate process on the left side at c4-5 with mild formainal compromise.

    4. Hypertrophy of the uncinate process on the right side at c5-6 with foraminal compromise and impingement on right c6 nerve root.

    5. Hypertrophy of the uncinate process on the right side at c6-7 with neural foraminal compromise and impingement on the right c7 nerve root.

    6. Anteriro subluxation of c6 vertebral body with reference to c7.

    7. Loss of cervical lordosis

At c7-t1 level there is degenerative disc disease. There is flexion deformity involving c3-4, c4-5, disc spaces. There is degenerative disc disease involving c4-5, c5-6, c6-7 disc spaces.

At t1-t7 levels, there is degenerative disc disease with loss of discal height.

Slight subluxation of c4 vertebral body on the standing lateral flexion view, which gets reduced on the standing lateral extension view.

At c4-5 level, there is degenerative disc disease with considerable disc space narrowing. Central spinal canal appears adequate. There is a touch of foraminal stenosis of the left side due to hypertrophy of the uncinate process. (there are a couple more like this which is about the same.).

I don't know if this was due to the fall I had back in the Army. When I fell off of the truck, hit the ladder, and rolled off of it head first, the only thing the military said at the time via xrays was 11/12 vert fractured. Landed on mid-lower back and upper back. I maybe barking up the wrong tree, but could this cause cardio problems or should I just refile on my back disability as a secondary claim?

    thank you for your time,

  5. Update:

Looks like my old military spinal cord injury was more extensive than what I had originally thought. When I fell 18 years ago, I fell backwards off of a platform and onto the attached metal ladder which as at a 45 degree angle. I hit my mid/lower back first then my upper back and landed on my feet. I felt nothing from the mid chest down and fell over. I was in the field for 18hrs before being evacuated to the hospital. We were in blizzard conditions at the time.

The hospital said I had only broken my t11/t12 ribs and vertebrae at the time. There was no mri or ct scan done at that time only x-rays. After looking at my MRI, I found a wedge type dark area in a hemisection of my spinal cord at t4/t5. It goes from just past the middle of the cord and exits out to the upper right. Could that be a lesion and could that be the cause of my bradycardia?

I wish I could upload the images and have someone look at it. It would give me peace of mind. I will be seeing a civilian spinal cord doctor on the 19th of Nov. I hope they can give me some news.

  7. Don't know where to begin, but I will give it a try. I currently have a 30% disability with the VA for high blood pressure and 11th and 12th vertebrae fusion. Last Monday I had a SVT heart ablation operation performed, it failed, and a permanent 2 wire pacemaker was installed. I was diagnosed prior to the procedure with svt and sudden cardiac death (6 second pauses in the heart).

I called my DAV rep in Big Springs, TX and he needs a statement indicating a possible connection with my high blood pressure and svt/scd. I have very low blood pressure as well because of the low heart rate when scd is present. I contacted my civilian cardiologist this morning and got a call back. They won't stick their necks out and told me to contact the electrocardiologist who treated me. My cardiologist is the one who told me of my diagnosis in the first place. What do I do if both refuse to give me a statement?

    Thank you
