  1. awesome information. I would tune in to the broadcast but I am at a VA outing I can't cancel. Thanks SO much.
  2. I just noted that the VA rating letter doesn't say "no further exams are scheduled", it says "no further exams WILL be scheduled" (my caps) My conditions are PTSD and major depressive disorder. My wife (Debra) helps me with these notes.
  3. Since last December I have been rated 100% totally and permanently disabled due to my service connected disability. Health care costs for my family are killing me and I want to switch them to CHAMP VA but am worried about something. If the VA were to ever downgrade my rating and they would no longer be eligible for CHAMP VA it would be a disaster because once I cancel my federal health care benefits (retired early due to my SC problems) I would not be able to re-enroll them again. I'd have to get insurance for them on the open market at sky high rates. Is 100% total and permanent generally that..."permanent"? My condition only worsens... but still I worry about this. Your thoughts and advice would be so appreciated. Thank you
  4. I'm CSRS, not FERS. Thanks for all the helpful replies.... some conflicting info, but I learn here from you good people.
  5. I recently got blessed with 100% P&T mostly as a result of my PTSD and depression. I was forced to retire early because of my sicknesses, but I do get some retirement pay from the fed gov. I worked 15 years in the private sector and most of my SS retirement will be done away because of a change that was put in during the Reagan Administration ("windfall elemination provision) Sould I be applying for Social Security Disability also? I'm not a money hog... my finances are a mess because of my disability, my wife is disabled without SS, and I have a wayword daughter who costs me a lot. [on the bright side I have a wonder loving best grandson in the world.. Mikey) Thanks
  6. Got a letter from the DAV saying my TDIU was denied, but I was rated 100% P&T. A bit over a week later, much needed retro money showed up in my account. I am STILL waiting nervously for the actual letter from the VA.... I don't want to believe till I see it in their print. My wife writes the following.... * We started to look at some of the benefits he might want to take advantage of. He has health insurance, but his co-pay is prettty big. We have two children less than 23 who should be full time school next semester. Canceling our fed retiree health insurance for CHAMPVA would have them denied benefits from 24th birthday (instead of 26th due to Obama law), and they would also loose insurance if they leave school. IT's really hard to be sure one understands the situation, and it's hard to decide what to do. He retired early due to his veteran health issues, so eliminating that premium and the co-pays is so tempting. Add in the questions about Medicare and it's even more confusing. WHERE DO WE GET HELP (OTHER THAN THIS WONDERFUL FORUM) IN UNDERSTANDING BENEFITS? Do service organizations help with this, like the DAV who helped us get the rating. Or do we go to State VA / county office? Or directly to the VA itself. We are hoping we can find a knowlegeable source who can SIT DOWN with us and have discussions about this. Is there anyone like that? Thank you like always....
  7. I applied for TDIU after suffering from 70% PTSD rating and work became impossible. Months and months have gone by...and even my psycholgist was concerned. He's ask me "did you here yet"? .... and I'd answer no. Today I got a letter from the DAV saying..... "it;s not official till you get the letter from the VA", but that they see that I have been awarded 100% disability and are rated P&T. I'm very anxious of course... what to believe. Please help me with two questions if you will. *How long after the DAV letter am I likely to hear from the VA officialy? *Does the finding change sometimes after the service organization announces the VA finding (they said VA reserves the right to do that) ? btw....I'm His wife.... writing this message on behalf of my husband. Thank you, F & D
  8. I'm 63 and intended to work much longer in life (teenagers yet) but had to quit and file for TDIU due to my PTSD. What I wonder is what has been your experiences regarding how long in life one can be classified as TDIU? Is there a cut off as we age more and more? Or can it go on regardless of age? Thanks
  9. Thank you very very much. The links were extreemly helpful. I have not worked since December 29th, I have been on continuos sick leave due to my SC disability. My VA psycologist has been extreemly supportive, completing my FMLA and providing "can't work" letters to my employer after my FMLA ran out. I feel my recent C&P went well also. But.... I still sit on pins and needles. I am in horrible financial condition.... and much of it is due to my inability to handle matters well due to my condition. I really need the increase to survive. Thanks again for being here.
  10. I guess I am surprised there were no replies to my question. Perhaps I was too wordy? the primary question is: "Is the form they use to check on any employment after receiving TDIU available for us to see? I wonder what the exact questions are that it asks of us or our employers. "
  11. I have not worked since Dec 29th 2010. I filed for TDIU in January. I am using sick leave, so I am still "on the rolls" but am sure I will not work again. Everything seems to be rolling along with the TDIU claim. I had my C&P exam last week. (already at 70%PTSD, diabetes, and leg wound for a total of 80%). My employer is pushing people to retire and they just offered $20K to retire by May 31st. Since there is no way I will work again, I might as well quit using my sick leave and retire. The incentive to leave is $10K in November of 2011 and $10K in Nov 2012. I was told it would be reported on line 7 on IRS 1040 "Wages and Salaries". That doesn't make sense to me..because I won't be an employee come May 31.. so how would I have wages, or a salary? I feel that might be a problem when the VA looks at the year and asks if I "worked" or not. If the money from them is reported by them as "wages and salary" does that put me in trouble with the VA? Is the form they use to check on any employment after receiving TDIU available for us to see? I wonder what the exact questions are that it asks of us or our employers. I sure would appreciate your thoughts on my predicament and also regarding the availability of the form for us to review Thank you SpentWarrior
  12. Thanks for the added suggestion.... I am a little shy about being more pushy with this Doc who has been so supportive. I will consider asking though cause what you said would be important to me.
  13. Thanks everyone.... I'll file immediatly and go out on extended sick leave.
