  1. I was rated 60% for both coronary artery disease and paroxymal atrial fibrillation. The ratings manual shows separate schedules for each. Shouldnt these have been rated separately?
  2. This is the sorriest state of affairs imaginable!!! How shortsighted can an administration possibly be!!!!! It curdles the brain to think that intelligent people would believe they could manipulate dollars to the detraction of care for the one group they must depend upon utterly to meet their objectives!! The military, Vets and prospective enlistees!!! Do they think in their hubris that word would not get out???? The only possible ,rational alternative is that the press is exaggerating . This is too hard to buy into at least for this VET It's very hard these days to maintain a belief congruent with this administration's security aims as they screw up the obvious time and time again! Lets stop so many tax favors for their rich buddies and start paying for the legitimate costs of natioanl security policies. Cut the pork projects! Hit the oil companies for windfall profits! Dump the tax cuts that benefited primarily the wealthy! Reintroduce competitive contract bidding for projects in IRAQ! Stop midnight congressional pay raises!! reinstitute the estate tax! raise the ceiling on social security taxable income so that the wealthy pay a percentage just a bit closer to the rest of us Identify and kick out those representatives who consistently vote against Vet issues!!! OH, and while we are at, lets tax the registered lobbyiest of whom their are more that two thousand in DC alone, so that every dollar they"give" our reps provides 50% to lower the deficit
  3. Its that time of year again! I know VA Disability comp is not taxable but... does the IRS require some printed form stating how much VA paid you in a tax year?
  4. Crimson, If you go to the VA Watchdog site and poke around ,you will find the vets voting records of all members of congress re I think the DAV. If you are a Republican voter you are going to be shocked and disappointed
  5. Pete, Thanks for the input. You can bet I'll get the application in immediately. The real issue is how soon they will process it!!!!! At any rate, its good to know there one year deadline is not absolute.
  6. Frosty, Thanks for the quick response. I found the Champva manual and tho it doesnt specifically reference this issue, it does say they will deny any claim made more than a year after the occurrence. in my case its going to be real tight for the thousands of $s we had tp pay for my wifes" two major operations last year. Most of them happened in the Feb March time period so if the application process for Champva we are filling out now, takes too long, we will be past the year deadline. My problem no doubt. Glad yours worked out and glad you shared the knowledge. I wouldnt have begun to guess they might do this.
  7. BERTA, Also true that by regulation, Champva will automatically deny any claim submitted more than one year from the actual expense. This info from the Champva manual/ brochure , downloadable at HAC website
  8. FROSTY, What forms did you use to get paid back by Champva for your wife's old medical bills ? Do you mean that Champva paid her out of pocket medical bills from back before you increased to P&T? I just got increased to P&T going back to July of 2005. Wife had huge out of pocket med expenses in 2006. Is this like your situation in that they will pay her for the 2006 expenses once we sign her up????
  9. I have read somewhere that when a P&T Vets' wife gets Champva she can file to receive refunds for her medical expenses retroactive to the original date of her husbands qualification for P&T. Is this correct? Can anyone point me to the pertinent regulation?
  10. Kenny J Does sound good for you! I guess we all run a little scared after all the war stories we hear and live! I just wondered if anyone had the same language "award" and "authorization" used in connection with a denial Seems like you dont have to award or authoriize when you deny but........ this is VARO land and who can explain what happens there!!
  11. VIKE 17 OK, but does it mean a FAVORABLE decison?????
  12. three weeks ago the IRIS line told me a decison had been made on my IU cliam and the "AWARD" would be processed in the next two weeks. Today the guy on the telephone told me the "decision had been "AUTHORIZED" today. Can anyone familiar with VA TALK tell me what this probably means?????
  13. On Oct 13 of this year I received an email response to my request on the the status of my I.U claim. The response from the VARO was " A decision has been made on your claim you should get a letter within two weeks." When I didnt hear from them thru last saturday I queried via email aagain. Just now i received the response that ("the claim has been rated and sent to the rating team, apparently a mistake was found because it was re-rated on 11 November. I'm sorry I told you two weeks , it was just an estimate.} Can anyone read into this ,particularly the part mentioning the re-rating on 11 November, whether this is a good or bad sign. Chewing on fingernails here.
  14. thanks for the responses. I didnt use a vso and i guess this is the first time i might regret it. have to go for an md appointment this week. Maybe try to talk to someone at the varo in person ha ha ha
  15. On October 13 of this year I received a response to my IRIS inquiry stating that The Houston VARO had made a decision regarding my IU claim and that I would receive the letter within two weeks. Its now the 25th of November and .....nothing...I have tried calling the 800 # WITH no further info. Is there anything else I can do to find out what is happening?
  16. Well sure, We all know the non adversarial definition of the claims process is bullshit BUT........ Isnt the real villain here the congress and its unwillingness to fully fix and fund a system that doesnt reward its fat cat corporate friends and wealthy donors? 1. The system is so complicated that it invites mistakes by us Vets 2. The government doesnt pay the raters a whole lot of money but the decisons they have to make are extremely complicated. With all due respect working for the VA or any federal government agency does not typically attract the graduates of the top business schools. 3. On top of the systems complicated systems , the huge numbers of claims place unbelieveable production demands on raters with emphasis on quantity not necessarily quality of work. ASK yourself why the VA isnt funded to hire and train more people to handle a growing workload? 4. The system was originally set up with claims to be rated by a team of three including one medical doctor, this recognizing the complex nature of the decisons. ASK yourself why this procedure was soon thrown out? Could it have been because congress decided it cost too much to pay a medical doctor as part of the team? IMHO the real reason the system of claims assessment stinks is the failure of our representatives to truly desire to fix and fund a better way Finally, can anyone tell me why that great American hero and patron of us Vets and likely next Presidential nominee of his party, the Honerable senior senator and ex admiral John McCain has a pro Vets voting record from the DAV of 25% in 2004 and 20% in 2005??????? HUH!!!!
  17. Shalia, When the disability claim was awarded, did the letter say anything about IU being "deferred" pending input from the Veteran(presumably the correct application form) As I understand it, in certain situations the rater is required to "infer" qualification for IU based on the criteria of 38 CFR but a granting still requires the Vet to "apply" using the correct form. In some of these cases the form is supposed to be included with the approval papers ,just as is the form for supplemental insurance, but this isnt always done. (real cloudy here as to reasons) My approval said specifically the IU was "deferred" and somewhere later on I picked up the idea I had to specifically fill out the correct form and ask for IU. Did your approval paperwork contain the same language?
  18. John, Dont mean to whip this to death but...... I'm trying to read into what i was told by phone and email , that a decision has been made on this IU claim, whether this means the decision was positive. If the decision on an IU claim is denial, what would be the purpose of sending a denied claim to a rater? Just trying to stoke some hope here, that being that decision made/sent to rater=s claim approved but detail like starting date has to be determined. Am I reading too much into the info?
  19. So,Jeff, Are you saying that a denial for IU must still be sent to a rater?????
  20. Spoke to VA today and was told my claim has been decided and is going to the rater. This is an I.U claim, what does rating have to do with it? I thought they either yes or no I.U. Anybody have any experience with this? Already S.C'd at 80% including heart at 60% so what is this "going to the rater" have to do with I.U??????
  21. OBJEE, You are absolutely correct but honestly I am too screwed up fighting with illness to do anything other than vote against those whose voting records are anti vet. I'd bet there are too many Vets in the same shape a I am OBJEE
  22. " Dear Jim. ..........................Spending money taking care of these "G.D" old vets is really becoming a pain in the ass! I'm having more and more trouble finding the bucks for my latest pork projects back in my district. And you know that threatens my re-election!!! A few of us are really getting p.o'd that you are not doing enough to cut the purse strings on this burdensome bunch of crybabies. And you know what our losing office does for your re employment chances!!! Who the hell do these old bums think they are demanding we hold to promises made to them ages ago? Don't they realize we were fighting wars then??? Who the hell do these people think they are anyway? They are the past and w e in Congress must look to the future!!! You and I know these guys really have no power and some of them actually feel "guilty' taking government money !!!! We can continue re- writing the rules to squeeze these guys but you have to do more to augment these changes and free up more cash for the real needs of this country!!! GET ON THE STICK OR ELSE!!........................................" U.S Congressman Smith
