  1. My VA PCP recently discontinued my generic Crestor & prescribed 4 tabs daily of Ester Omega 3 Fish Oil 1000 MG (300 MG EPA/DHA). I was told that the VA pharmacy does not dispense it. They did provide my recently ordered Vit. D supplements. After taste is horrible on the ones I purchased. Any suggestions for brand with reduced after taste?
  2. Berta, I'm so impressed with how you "took the bull by the horns". I can't wait to hear more updates. Reading about how you handle things gives me hope. Thanks for the update!
  3. Is this the link you are looking for? http://www.va.gov/oig/pubs/VAOIG-11-02258-46.pdf
  4. I don't have any answers for you but I wanted to welcome you to Hadit ckcjcg. I'm sure you'll find a wealth of information here. Others may be able to help out with your specific situation.
  5. I'm still working and taking meds for my nightmares made it difficult to wake up so I stay away from them. My nightmares have changed over the years and they are bad enough that my wife now waits until 2 AM to come to bed. My newest thing is taking rolling dives off our high bed. I have recently been told that one of these dives caused a bulged disk (cervical). I guess bed rails are the next thing I'll have to buy. So what do I do? This was my wife's idea and I generally wait until I've had a few bad nights before I give in to this therapy but it does seem to help. I've been able to relax and get some stress relief if I take a long soak in the tub before I go to bed. My wife pampers me by putting on soft music and lighting the candles. She's even tried some aroma therapy a few times. I've noticed that I sleep much better afterwards and actually wake up feeling decent.
  6. Carlie, This is outstanding news! I'm thrilled for you.
  7. This is great news! CONGRATULATIONS!
  8. Here's the drug classification info per Wikipedia.org for Celexa & Xanax. You can find more information on their website or elsewhere: Citalopram, (trade names: Celexa, Cipramil) is an antidepressant drug of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class. It has U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to treat major depression, and is prescribed off-label for a number of anxiety conditions. Alprazolam (trade name Xanax, available among other generic names) is a short-acting anxiolytic of the benzodiazepine class of psychoactive drugs. Alprazolam, like other benzodiazepines, binds to specific sites on the GABA gamma-amino-butyric acid receptor. Alprazolam is commonly used and FDA approved for the treatment of panic disorder, and anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) or social anxiety disorder (SAD).

  21. Terry, Stents are used for coronary artery disease but they are also used for other vascular problems, such as carotids, peripheral artery disease (PAD), angina, etc. The IHD ruling states that the ischemia must be in the coronary arteries, etc, etc. so it's really hard to say. If he was told that his stents were for coronary blockage it's possible that he does have IHD. They did carotid and coronary testing prior to my stent surgery for PAD so I'd suggest that he request his medical records. Hopefully he'll find the answers within. Can his doctor tell him?
  22. I was in Vietnam '70-'71, USA, served with the 101st. Welcome to Hadit.

  23. Congratulations Justin! This is great news. How long did the full process take for you?
  24. Stilt, I completely agree with you and thank you for presenting the other side of the story. My wife worked in a doctor's office for 12 years. She saw many pharmaceutical reps come thru and sat thru most of the new drug presentations because she was the office nurse and learned a lot in doing so. She said the only freebies she ever saw were the samples that were left at the office and a rare pre-arranged lunch for the entire office (for a new drug presentation). The drugs samples they left helped many people that wouldn't have been able to pay for the medications themselves. Many of these pharmaceutical companies have special programs for low income people that can't afford their drugs. The purpose of having reps see the physician was/is to introduce new drugs, teach the side effects and interactions, discuss any issues/problems with their medications and put samples of the product in the doctor's hands so he can try them. With the amount of new drugs being introduced on a regular basis, this is extremely helpful for physicians. If not for pharmaceutical reps, they could easily stick with the old products never realizing that there were newer and better options for their patients. I'm not saying there's no corruption. There could be but there's a lot of good being done by pharmaceutical reps and the doctors that receive & prescribe the drugs too.
