I filed for SSD for my older brother who had multiple health issues (hbp, dm II, seizures, chronic pain in spine) in late Oct. 2008 and by June 2010 he was granted SSD. His date of retro pay was only given for the past eight months. As he had no insurance he went for several years without medical treatment which led to his payment date. It can be done with all of the above mentioned criteria without a lawyer.
