  1. Thanks guys I appreciate the info. Yeah I did read about the poverty threshold. (Hopefully) I would make more than that otherwise it wouldn't be worth it. I just didn't know if there was any kind of 'trial work period' like SSDI has. I would think... Self employment would fall under 'Sheltered Employment' but with the VA who knows. Not sure if I want to be the one to find out for everyone lol. Thanks again!
  2. I want to start my own business however i am currently receiving IU. I want to do a property care taking type deal. Outside all of the time, set my own schedule, if i get one of my migrains, i can call off the the day. I have read that the VA will do a trial work period for so many months without taking the IU away. Then at the same time I have heard thats not true. So does anyone know for sure? Thanks everyone
  3. Thanks for the replies guys, sorry i was MIA there for a few days. The neck pain isnt all of the time. MOSTLY it happens when i have one of my migraines or headaches. Not sure if this qualifies for cervical strain or not
  4. Hey guys. I am already rated for TBI and residuals of TBI migraine headaches. My neck really hurts at times like i cant go side to side all of the way like i used to. I'm assuming its as a result of the IED my vehicle hit in Iraq, or migraines. When I go on ebenefits and continue my claim, what should i call that? Im not sure what the condition is actually called. Just neck pain? Thanks
  5. Thank you guys for the replies, its refreshing to actually find people who knows a little about this. I will keep you all posted!
  6. I currently have no other taxable income. Yeah I would be making significantly more than the poverty level. He would have no problem signing an affidavit. I have called the VA looking for information on sheltered employment, even VA lawers, and no one has any idea. I am currently getting paid at the 100% rate under IU, also Social Security. I am 33 years old, medically retired from the Marine Corps. 50% DOD rating 80% VA (50% PTSD, 40%TBI, 30% Migraine residuals from TBI, 20% scars) I think I can get bumped up close to 100, because I also have COPD but have not tried to rate that yet. I have had a Pulmonary Function Test done by the VA, and i fall into the 60% rating criteria according to my air flow numbers. Also, I am going to try for Tinnitus (10%). Thanks for the help!
  7. What were you awarded? I just submitted mine for ED from my Sertraline medication
  8. Has anyone ever successfully used the sheltered employment when your already on IU? How do you apply? I am currently rated 80% scedular, however i am on IU. I have a very close family friend that wants to make up a position for me at his business (sheltered) i can set my own schedule and he will work around my limitations. I have never entertained it because I fear loosing my IU. Another route I was contemplating on trying is getting my 80 bumped up to 100 schedular
  9. Thanks for the reply, ill check it out
  10. My question is about IU and Sheltered work environment. From my understanding, you can work at a place that is sheltered work environment, meaning they work with your disabilities and limitations, and 'treat' you differently than they would a different employee. What evidence do i need, how would i go about filing, etc. Has anyone ever done this before?
  11. Hello all,Background:50% PTSD, 40%TBI, 30% migraines, 20% scars---80% combined. I was also rated Individual Unemployability. Got both a phone call and a letter in the mail that I have a C&P review (for my TBI/migraines) scheduled for next month. My question is, is the review for my I.U? Or is it for my 40% and 30% schedular ratings (for TBI/Migraines)?
  12. Hello, I am on Individual Unemployability for my TBI. Rated at 80% schedular. Ever since I was in Iraq I have been wanting to start up a small non profit that will benefit combat disabled veterans. I know that you cannot make over $1000 a month (or whatever the exact number is) while on IU but I am wondering how starting a business (even though I wont pay myself any more than 500 a month or so; just to cover start up costs) would affect my IU rating, and also SSDI. Does anyone have any ideas?
  13. Hello all, I am currently in the Marine Corps Reserve and am in the process of getting medically discharged for PTSD, TBI/ Migrains. I am going to my Medical Board in a month or two down in Chicago to confirm my conditions are combat related. I have been awarded a combined rating of 80% disability from the VA. I have had multiple people tell me that the VA compensation and general Military Disability Compensation are two different rating systems; and you should rate a % if you are currently active in the military and you are getting medically discharged. Can someone give me more information on this? What is the rating scale if there is such thing as a military compensation. Also, can you recieve both at the same time if so? Thank you.
