  1. Tinnitus question for the group. my mos was a moderate risk of tinnitus according to some chart I looked at. Question is, I got out in 1992 and was never screened for tinnitus. Is a sc claim worth pursuing this late ?
  2. Question and advice needed My ent said I may have meniere disease. I go for tests next week. If I get that diagnosis, is it worth trying to file a claim on a secondary basis to ptsd? thanks
  3. I am service connected for Meniers disease and it has gotten progressively worse and worse to the point that I am wheelchair bound 100% of the time, which the VA has acknowledged by not only issuing my a back up second custom rigid wheelchair but my new primary care doctor unlike my old crappy one has noted it in my medical records that I am wheelchair bound 100% of the time. I have come to realize that we need to buy or build a more accessible house, I am in my 40's and this isn't going to work for us much longer. I need to hopefully be eligible for a SAH grant as well as a vehicle grant. Do I need one of my providers to say that I have essentially lost the use of my legs? It is kind of weird situation honestly, I can't walk unless you want to say someone who has had an insane amount of alcohol but can somehow stagger around is walking. I fell over 20 times in one month before we finally said enough is enough. I also have psychogenic seizures which honestly are scary as heck. I can't be left alone any longer and NO we can't apply for the caregiver program because wrong era. I am a Desert Storm era veteran. Anyone go through this with a similar situation? Those small grants aren't even gonna come close to making a dent in a fully accessible home. Thanks.
  4. I was just diagnosed with Meniere's after years of having periodic dizziness and vertigo that has gotten progressively worse and more frequent. I am already service connected for bilateral hearing loss and tinnitus. (Ironically I had never even heard of Meniere's until about a year ago when I was doing the exams to get the service connection for the tinnitus and when I mentioned the dizziness to the audiologist she said I should have more testing to see if it was Meniere's). My question is when I file the claim, should I file it as primary, secondary to the hearing loss and tinnitus, or both?
  5. So today my Vertigo claim status on Ebenefits moved to Pending Approval with an estimated completion range of Dec 28, 2018-Jan 8, 2019. As always these statuses mean squat as they can change. What I am monitoring will be the effects on the timeliness of our monthly checks and if the status extends past the dates listed. The VA is funded but the Treasury isn't and it is the Treasury that processes our checks out through the ACH to our banks and also prints any physical checks. In one of our past shutdowns I had a few days delay in a payment not related to the VA. The only department (involved in my payment) that was affected by that shutdown was the Treasury. They literally did not have enough people left to "push the button" on each of the transfer batches in their queues when the shutdown occurred. The money was pushed out about 3 days late if I remember correctly. Based on what I know and feel about the existing vertigo claim and what is in my cfile for the last 5 years on the subject, i suspect I will either be flat out denied (and have to fight) or be rated as Meniere's disease and at a high percent. Since I am already 100% on a single isssue, 60% or higher on Vertigo would/should move me to SMC S and if that happens the issue about the timing of our checks becomes more interesting. Personally I won't suffer if our checks are delay a few months, but so many other veterans will be harmed that even contemplating a negative effect of a shutdown is just disgusting. Once again "hurry up and wait" has affected my life and I can do nothing but find patience.
  6. After being denied for meniere's diease I appealed and asked for a new DRO to take a look at my claim and submitted new evidence. I just received a notice for a C&P exam with an ENT Dr. Does this mean that the VA believes, with the new evidence I submitted, that my meniere's disease is now service connected? OR do I still have to convince the C&P examiner that it is service connected? Thanks in advance for you help.
  7. I was rated at 10% for tinnitus last year by the VA. I went to my private doctor yesterday and I described to him the problems that I have been having with my sense of balance. Any sudden movement of my head or movement while sitting in my desk chair causes me to lose my balance and become nauseous. Also when seeing TV if there are certain scenes, such as movement across or up and down the screen my balance is affected. The doctor said that what is causing the problem is Meniere's Disease. Does any know if this could be secondary to tinnitus and if it would be rated separately from the tinnitus? If I am already rated at 10% for tinnitus and I could filed for Meniere's does any one know what it might be rated at? Thanks for your help. 68mustang
