  1. I meet the criteria for compensation from Camp Lejeune. I was there over 30 days. I fall between the required dates. I have been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. I have spoken with several lawyers, and had others try to get me to sign their preliminary questionnaire. So far I am looking for convincing evidence that my cancer is linked to Camp Lejeune. I understand there is a time limit, and I am also looking for an attorney to go with, since it takes 6 months before I know if I'm eligible to file a suit. And I would like to find an attorney who takes less than 40%, but maybe that's what they all get. Any thoughts?
  2. The VA has confirmed that all 23 diseases identified in the PACT Act will be considered to be effective the date of the bill passage, Aug. 10. There will not be a "phase-in" of the effective dates that were staggered over several years! He went on to say that the VA will start to process the new claims Jan 1, 2023, which is the earliest possible date for them to begin.
  3. Good afternoon all, in 2003 I put in a claim for what are now a few of the presumptive conditions under the PACT Act. NOD denied all but two, I received a SOC outlining the denied conditions, I submitted a form 9 and requested my appeal be sent to the Board for a decision. Now that the PACT Act is in effect, does anyone have any idea if the VA will adjudicate presumptive conditions in the queue that are awaiting a decision before the PACT Act went into law? Those decisions that are in the BVA queue? I am not sure how I should follow up, any advice would be helpful. Thank you. Time Line VA sent you a claim decision - December 17, 2004 VA received your Notice of Disagreement - March 24, 2005 VA sent you a Statement of the Case - April 26, 2022 (it took them that long, honestly never follow up, just went on with my life) VA granted one or more issues - April 26, 2022 VA received your form 9 - on June 02, 2022 Current status - The Decision Review Officer is finishing their review of your appeal to be sent to BVA.
  4. Good Morning; To the point: Service 1973-1999 (US Army Retired); Stage 4 Neck Cancer diagnosed 2010, Treated through 2011, declared resolved 2015. QUESTION: I understand that the service disability benefit is paid 100% during treatment and for 6 months following. Is there any reason to submitt a claim for neck cancer considering it is resolved at this time. Thank you, North Idaho Veteran Services Post Falls, ID
  5. I filed a claim for asthma in 2021. I was denied because my diagnosis was more than 10 years after separation. I saw that asthma is now a presumptive illness under the new pact act, and I’m on the burn pit registry. Does this mean that I’m now eligible since this has passed? I can’t find anything addressing this on the VA’s website. thanks
  6. The bill passed Congress yesterday and the president is expected to sign it. Millions of vets suffering from burn pit, toxic injuries set for more benefits after Congress passes PACT Act https://www.militarytimes.com/news/burn-pits/2022/08/02/millions-of-vets-suffering-from-burn-pit-toxic-injuries-set-for-more-benefits-after-congress-passes-pact-act Details of the PACT Act: https://www.va.gov/resources/the-pact-act-and-your-va-benefits For Vietnam era veterans, it adds two new presumptive conditions: The act also added additional presumptive locations for AO and radiation vets.
