Question

Husband went from 50% to 70%, but granted to 100% IU with no future exams. Is this the same as TDIU or P&T or what? Also, the letter came today, so do we use that to go to the base for ID's, or is something else needed? One more thing, when can I apply for ChampVA?

Thanks,

sbrewer

Did your decision say you were entitled to Chapter 35 benefits. If so then you can apply for ChampVA right away.

If it said no future exams that should qualify you for ChampVA.

Call your SO and ask or call 800 827 1000 and talk to some of those yahoo's.

Good Luck

sbrewer,

In order to get the ID cards (DD Form 2765 for your husband and DD Form 1173 for you) you should call your RO and ask them for a "commissarry letter." They know what this is and will type it up and send it to within a couple of days. Once you get this letter take it along with your husbands DD 214, marriage certificate and, I think, car insurance and registration, and the local RAPIDS site on the nearest military installation will issue the ID's. Since it appears your husband is P&T, in the expiration date on your husbands ID card will say INDEF and yours, I think will be good for 4-5 years. If your husband isn't P&T, the ID will reflect an expiration date of 60 days after the next scheduled C&P exam.

Vike,

I was wondering I just got I/U with the Commisary Letter. I live near an AF reserve base, and the letter indicated that I had a future exam in Jan 1, 2008. How you do that on a military installation on New Years eve is beyond me, but ok.....but the E8 who did my deers card did everything and my card says INDEF. I am 90% SC and 10% I/U. I am confused with your statement in regards to having to be P&T to get indef.

Spike,

If you have a future exam date and you received an expiration date of IDEF, and that was noted on your commissarry letter, then the person at the RAPIDS cite screwed up and put he wrong thing in the expiration date.

The screw up is to your advantage so I wouldn't worry about it.
