Question

I also saw this advertised last night and believe they said this will be a two part show this coming Saturday and Sunday night at 8 PM-on CNN-

If anyone can confirm- please do-

email from Jere Berry at ALLVETS

"CNN will be airing a blistering report on the Department of Veterans Affairs and their total failure to meet their commitment to our disabled veterans. I urge everyone to tune-in to see how CNN handles this very sensitive subject. Also, tonight at 8PM on CNN is a Special on Homeless Veterans.

Sameo to us -They (VA) have 38 CFR ,38 USC, and M21-1- but so do we.

Mansfield sure didnt have any good answers-

I wonder if Ziegel really does get the right comp-

they said it was over 2,000 then to 4,000 - obviously SMC with dependents-maybe the "N" award ?

What gets me is there was a Broohaha over the Knight Ridder reports some time ago-and there might be a broohaha over these shows-

but will this change anything?

It COULD certainly give some impetus to the changes that Congressman Filner is going to propose soon-

I think if vets email CNN and say they want more shows like this-

it will keep the VA on the hot seat-

I personally would like to see an expose of some of the piss poor vet reps out there who give their vet orgs a bad name and fail to adequately help veterans.

And a big expose on the Scam that ROs have made of our Duty to Assist Rights- the VCAA-

There are now over a half a million claims at the BVA-

thousands and thousands have been remanded for a re-do-which is what a remand really is-

Can you imagine if the IRS had a Remand rate ,like this?

Or even Social Security Disability claims?

The American taxpayer is paying VA employees to re-do what they were paid to do in the first place.

You have to go down to the CNN Special Investigations link and also supply your name, city and email addy-

I certainly griped about the Remand rate at the BVA and also the fact that we cannot always reply on vet reps or NSOs to adequately represent us-

I hope vets and widows around the country will send CNN some emails on this show-

By the way- Candy Crawley -one of their reporters- did the BEST PTSD documentary years ago that I have ever seen.

It won many awards and I think it should be put on the air again-

"Fit To Kill"----

Three vets from 3 wars-and it also had one of VA's best- Dr. Shay-

explaining what PTSD really is.

Well, I've done some thinking and read some comments from non-veterans on some blogs. Across the board there was shock and horror about how these veterans were treated.

My first reaction to the show is that even though it was very good at getting these stories out, american nature is to be "shocked", say what a shame it is, then go about their lives untill something comes around to "shock" them again. Unless VA issues stay at the forefront of the media, americans will soon forget what they have seen.

There are those that say "Why march on Washington?". They are correct that one march will do little. They are dead wrong that it will do nothing. Our issues are now being recognized by major media. If we allow this one program (CNN) to run it's course, this issue will die in the media and the public eye as it has over and over again. To win a War it is neccissary to overwhelm the enemy completely. Hit and run tactics don't work. They will not produce change.

Veterans contacting Congressmen/Senators is helpfull but will not produce change. We have been doing this for years while fighting for bennifits and they know full well what we go through. We must get the public, non-veterans beside us to fight.

This program is an open door. If we don't go through it we are not helping ourselves, our veteran brothers, or those that come behind us. And if we don't do something to help ourselves the media won't either.

I believe the time is right for veterans issues to come to forefront. It's time to march. In Washington. In New York. In Los Angeles. In Pocatello, Idaho. Everywhere. It's time for not one veterans story, not two or three, but hundreds or thousands of stories. Otherwise Mansfield, or Bush, or Clinton or any other politico can continue to say that this poor treatment is "rare". The VA can continue to scrub the numbers. The public can continue to forget.

Here at Hadit, we know these cases are not rare. But who else does? I have won my bennifits. Now I NEED to win them for everyone else that deserves them before they are homeless.

I sent an email to Cnn.

I would like to see the Regional Office exposed and the doctors at the VAMC. I would like to see raters rating the claims have some knowledge of medicine, so that they will know what they are reading.

I would like to see more programs as this concerning the many veterans of the Vietnam War Era.

I also wrote of the many years that the veterans of Vietnam are having to deal with in securing their much deserved benefits.

Always,

Josephine

Hi,

I also forwarded a feedback to CNN.

- I am recommending a sequel(to re-educate new/younger generation Administration) covering the Vietnam Vets who are suffering long term effects from the Agent Orange exposure.

- For political(Bush baby and it is a fact!!) reason, why the Aghan & Irag vets are prioritized over the aging Vietnam Vets.

Oh man...sigh....

A thought just crossed my mind.

Has anyone heard of a disparity in VA comp awards between O grades and E grades?

It seems to me through observation that I only know of E grades having a great deal of difficulty with the VA proccess. Those disabled O grades that go on to politics haven't seemed to have had any of this diffuculy.

I would like to see statistics on this. O grades do get injured and sick don't they? Are there any O grades here, fighting for benifits?

I'm not saying there is a disparity cause I don't have facts. It is a legitimate consern to me now that I've thought about it though.

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

      https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.344

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
