I was unofficially diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a couple of weeks ago. My doctor (Private local doctor) and I have decided to keep this between us. He told me that if he put this in my records that it would be a bad thing nd he makes good sense. If he puts this in my records he will not be able to get other doctors that he sends me to, to do anything for me. He explained that they will tell me that there is no cure for me ans send me on. Doing things our way will make other doctors want to help me when he sends me for other test. I really understand this, because I know other people that have been done that way. My daily pain scale lately is about an 8. It takes everything that I can do to just get out of bed. I have a pain in my right shoulder blade right now that has been in it for almost 24 hours. It is not from the fibro. I don't think. I think that it is from a back injury. The V.A. has done a CAT scan on it but it did not show anything. I am debating on asking my local doctor to do an MRI. I can barely use either arm right now. I have been fighting back tears since yesterday. NOTHING helps the pain. B) Lortab with extra Tylenol (I know about the liver, but what do I do?), Naproxen, Oxycodone (Did not work and made me stoned, I put them away.), Amitriptyline, or heat and a massager. This sux. This pain comes and goes sometimes twice a week. :( :( :(

Well., pain scale is at a 10...gotta go.

The amount of post that it shows that I have made does not go back to when the site started. T-Bird had no idea that this site would ever get as big as it has grown. Dean,

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I too have fibromyalgia and understand. I understand what your doctor is saying but if he has done the 18 tender point check on you (diagnosis requires 11 positive) and has ruled out all the other possible causes (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and multiple sclerosis) then he needs to annotate that you have this. You should ask him to do blood test and an MRI anyways to rule out other causes because there are many disease that mask themselves as fibromyalgia. Now here is the good thing although it is not curable there are medicines out there that work for fibromyalgia, finding the one that is right for you is the key. There is National fibromaylia Organization with a website fibromaylia.com that may be able to answer some of your concerns. Good luck

Dean,

In a way it's good to see you posting at hadit --- but in a way not good.

Usually if I see you post I know you're having problems, and I am sorry for all this pain you are in. I'm not a doc so I can't write a script --- but for pain I always at least mention a drug called Toradol. I probably haven't spelled it right but it sounds out just like I spelled it.

I've been given Toradol injections about 5 times. The first time VA ever gave me an injection of it was I went into the ER with a couple of cracked ribs -- man o man was

I ever hurting. ER doc shot me up with the Toradol and within 5 minuted I felt like I could do jumping jacks and it lasted all night -- didn't make me sleepy, nausea, high -----

nothing, just took my pain away. Might not work for others but was great for me.

Thanks everyone........... Carlie, I have tried Toradol in the past and it does not help. I have taken pain med for so long, nothing helps when I get like this. All that I can do is stay in bed and take things to ease the pain IF I STAY STILL.

As for doing the test for Fibro goes............ My docter knows that there is no point in the test for it because all of the thtth bu have been done except for the pressure test by him. I hurt in every place that the pressure test is at. He has been treating me long eneough to know my body. He has been trying to help me from day one. The V.A. doctor that I use has done everything that he can do also. I have been on every drug that Fibro patients take and others that they do not take. I have not tried the latest thing out yet. I will be asking my private doctor for that next. He does anything that I ask him to try. He did not want to give me OXY last month and I really did not want to have to try it, but we both agreed to try it. I took it for 2 day's and put it down and will never go back. i have tried herbal meds also. Glucosamine makes my stomack and intestines bleed real bad. Anything with Aspirine makes me bleed and anything that say's that it can possibly cause this does it to me. IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) sux. I recently had a CAT scan on my upper back and nothing showed up, or the radiologist was drunk that day. That was the V.A., the same people that ran the same test a few years ago and said that C-5 & C-6 was out of line. I am going to ask for an MRI from the V.A. but if they say no, I will ask my private doctor. I might even get a copy of the last CAT scan for my private doctor to send out and get another opinion. It seems like Neuroalgia also. I have Arthritis so I know that is part of my problems along with a Chiropractor telling my 13 years ago that my mylen sheeth was going away. The V.A. just wan't to deny everything. It is bad when my Chiropractor at the time will not let me back into his office because he is scared that he will hurt me worse. This is a very good Ciropractor too. He has even worked on Burt Reynolds and football players.

People here that have known me for the past 10 years know everything wrong with me. I have several things wrong with my body. I used to be on here all of the time helping people. I enjoy being a part of this group. This group has done a lot for me. They always come through for me when I need help. I just wish that I could hold out long enough to help other people on here like I used to do. I feel like I am taking information now more than giving. I am only 38 going on 39 next month. I can barely lift a drink some day's and other day's that I do feel good, I have to play catch up on the things that I could not do. Thanks for me being an aircraft sheetmetal mechanic for 4 years in the Navy. My body sux now and the V.A. in Washington D.C. keeps dragging their a$$e$ on a claim that a judge expedited a year ago. The 2 hearings that I have had went well with the judges but the other V.A. people under them suck. I got a letter a couple of months ago after I called to check on my claim and was told that they have not even started it yet because of the back log. Then the next month I got a letter telling me that they had just dictated the hearing that was over 6 months ago. I understand that they are swamped right now in Washington but that is a very long time to just dictate something. If these local service officers would do their jobs properly this would not happen allof the time. Don't let me get on that soap box. I have ran both of my hearings myself and been told by both judges that I did a good job on my case, and had representation both times from the Dept of Veteran Services.

Well let me see if I can help someone on here.

    • These decisions have made a big impact on how VA disability claims are handled, giving veterans more chances to get benefits and clearing up important issues.

      Service Connection

      Frost v. Shulkin (2017)
This case established that for secondary service connection claims, the primary service-connected disability does not need to be service-connected or diagnosed at the time the secondary condition is incurred 1. This allows veterans to potentially receive secondary service connection for conditions that developed before their primary condition was officially service-connected.

      Saunders v. Wilkie (2018)
The Federal Circuit ruled that pain alone, without an accompanying diagnosed condition, can constitute a disability for VA compensation purposes if it results in functional impairment 1. This overturned previous precedent that required an underlying pathology for pain to be considered a disability.

      Effective Dates

      Martinez v. McDonough (2023)
This case dealt with the denial of an earlier effective date for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) 2. It addressed issues around the validity of appeal withdrawals and the consideration of cognitive impairment in such decisions.

    • I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

    • Caluza Triangle defines what is necessary for service connection
Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”

    • Do the sct codes help or hurt my disability rating
    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
