New Approach?

I'm not sure if this is a NEW approach for veterans and their medications or not. My husband had been seen by his regular MD at the VA clinic.

She set up an appointment to see another MD (at the clinic). The "NEW" MD was also a a Pharmacist, MD. The entire appointment was to evaluate the medications and their efficacy and side effects, and determine what was happening during my husbands activities of daily living, and what effects the drugs played in his life and how effective they were in treating his conditions. Also discussed vitimins and supplements, fish oil, Vit. C, CoQ10. etc.

She is changing some meds and she monitors the condition and performs all follows up appointments. Husband has had three appointments scheduled in the last few weeks.

This seems to be a great step in the right directions by the VA. I hope this continues to be available and is not a "pilot" program that is dropped later. Has any one else been contacted by the Prescription DRUG Specialist?

If you are having problems with all those prescriptions, it might be worth a telephone call to your clinic or VAMC and see if they have an MD in place to evaluate your precriptions and interactions. We have found this extremely helpful in delaing with side effects from medications and from RX complicating conditions.
