Gee, Mcafee, sue hope someone else chimes in. Seems like there should be a history trail somewhere in the VA or where you were discharged to find your SMRs. Sorry, I didn;t understand how long the records have been missing.

Other than St. Louis. the VA or what military headquarters may have you, I sure dont know where to start unless its back at the last base or fort you were stationed at. If needed, some other documents that may help support VA claims in the meanwhile may be any personnel reports of accidents, government ratings on those or waivers for medical reasons. I have found 'duty' marching or aerobic waivers filed in my personnel records and a finding of fact in my financial records regards a military vehicle incident (I was cleared!). Other ways to 'recoup' some of the medical events could be through family letters or counseling offices that you may have used.

I feel for you, having been treated at other military medical facilities some of my treatment records just never made it into my SMRs at all. I am only able to establish those events because of patient treatment copies.

Best to ya, CG'up

Not good , If I were you, I would be calling My Veteran Rep and everyone else that I could think of that had anything to do with your claim and see if I could come up with any thing at all and I would get copies made of everything I did find and start my own file. I have copies of the copies of the copies just to be safe. Don't trust anyone. Thats cold but true in the VA claims wars.

I see you were rated 10%, were these records lost after your filing date? Who had their hands on them last?

Thank You all for your concern and your feedback NY.NY.1978 to 1988 NJ.1988 -1993 ATL. Ga.1993 -2004 and back to NJ . I have all VAHCS from 2004 to present. NPR from ST LOUIS can not produce all SMR only hospitalization records and sugery reports and such all other such as AIT records and BCT records they can nopt produce? I do have some documentation but during the coarse or time frame of constant care for these issues clearly shows the service connection. The last time i saw my actual MED.File was in Atl.Ga. since i have moved back to NJ the Battle is on and these folks here at VARO are just plain mean and nasty no common courtesy or manners.every question is a redirect or no answer or confrontational. To be quite frank i am so sick of these arseholes i am that close to bustin a gasket. And this will still not resolve the issues.thirty years of the samre bull shit sick of it .Please forgive me i do not wish to offend anyone iam little rattled on top of all the other nonsense. Thank You All God Bless

Do you receive SSA or did you ever apply for SSA?

The VA here in NY told me-as well as the Newark VA that my husband had no medical records from Newark NJ VA at all.

Since that was where he was diagnosed with PTSD it didnt make sense to me.

I found all of these Newark VA records at the local SSA office.

One other thought-

in a prior post in March you stated:

"Hello I have submitted to the US Army Board of Corrections and i checked the Status of and this is what was posted by them"

Is it possible that the Board of Corrections might have these records?

    • These decisions have made a big impact on how VA disability claims are handled, giving veterans more chances to get benefits and clearing up important issues.

      Service Connection

      Frost v. Shulkin (2017)
This case established that for secondary service connection claims, the primary service-connected disability does not need to be service-connected or diagnosed at the time the secondary condition is incurred 1. This allows veterans to potentially receive secondary service connection for conditions that developed before their primary condition was officially service-connected.

      Saunders v. Wilkie (2018)
The Federal Circuit ruled that pain alone, without an accompanying diagnosed condition, can constitute a disability for VA compensation purposes if it results in functional impairment 1. This overturned previous precedent that required an underlying pathology for pain to be considered a disability.

      Effective Dates

      Martinez v. McDonough (2023)
This case dealt with the denial of an earlier effective date for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) 2. It addressed issues around the validity of appeal withdrawals and the consideration of cognitive impairment in such decisions.

    • I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

    • Caluza Triangle defines what is necessary for service connection
Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”
