I just filed for my social security disability. I am also going threw the process of my VA claim. Will fileing for the SSD help or hinder my VA claim? And will benefits from one lessen benefits from the other or vice versa?

Will fileing for the SSD help or hinder my VA claim? Kinda depends on what the SSDI claim is for. If it is for the same disabilities you are claiming with the VA then yes an award by SS can and does in most cases help with the VA claim. However, with that said an award by SS does not insure a successful claim with VA.

And will benefits from one lessen benefits from the other or vice versa? No - there is no offset of VA payments disability payments (for service connected disabilities) if you draw SSDI nor is there any offset of SSDI if you draw VA payments (unless you are speaking of a VA pension).
