    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

What....? I have GERD and panic disorder and I know the difference. A psychiatrist should diangose panic disorder, not some primary care doctor. A shrink is really not competent to diagnose GERD and the hernia. You should get sc'ed for both conditions. Sometimes people who think they are having a heart attack are actually have a panic attack, but I never heard of gerd being confused with panic. If you are having chest pains that could be panic if their is no physical condition. I would get it checked out by a cadiologist and a psychiatrist. Don't rely on the VA for this kind of diangosis.

I thought I was having a heart attack about two years ago. It turned out to be my GERD, but they thought it was a panic attack at first. I agree with John. You should speak to a psych about this. It can be hard to determine which a person has...but if you have a hiatal hernia diagnosed, then someone has seen it with a scope. That means your rating should be fine, and that the panic attacks would be on top of the GERD, and that they could possible be a ratable secondary condition.

How many panic attacks have you had? What is the medicine that you are taking? Believe me you would notice the difference from acid reflux and a panic attack although I know that it could be a trigger that starts out as acid reflux and morphs into a panic attack.

I have all three and mostly I see an opportunity to raise your rating not lower it.

Until I understood this better if I were you I would try to see a Doc who is not connected to VA.

Looks to me like you should be able to link it to service with Medical Records and a god Medical Opinion.

Are you sure you don't have a heart problem? Have you been checked from stem to stern by a cardiologist? It is not always in our heads. Do you have pain in your arm or jaw? I ended up at emergencey rooms before when I did not sleep for many days and started to feel faint and dizzy. I thought I was having a stroke. It was anxiety, but my blood pressure was up as well. You can have a heart problem and panic disorder. One makes you feel like you are dying and losing your mind, and the other just kills you.
