    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

    employment 2.jpeg

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Non-va Provider

Conecuh

Question

Is it hard to get approved for treatment at a local, non-VA provider? I live 65 miles from VAMC. It is hard to sit that long. Not to mention the $4.00 gal gas."This authorization may be granted when it has been determined that direct VA services are either geographically inaccessible or VA facilities are not available to meet a veteran's needs. All community services must be pre-authorized before a veteran receives treatment. "

It is difficult to get ordinary care at a Non Va facility. My husband just had fee basis surgery, but that was due to VA issues. Getting approved for having all care fee based out, I have never heard of that happening.

We routinely go to a VA center which is over 100 miles away, so geographically, I don't think that would work.

Cone,

It would depend on your individual situation and if your nearest

VA or satellite center offered the service or healthcare you are in need of.

Your percentage of SC could also play into it.

Is the care you need for an issue that is already SC'd ?

Not to be a party pooper but VA treatment that is available within a 65 mile radius just will not get it my friend. As a matter of fact if they can provide the required treatment just about anywhere fee basis will be a large hill to climb. Just my opinion

Yes, they offer the services. I am 80% SC IUPT(Rated at 100%). I have DM2 and am thinking about the future when they have to load me up and drive 1 and 1/2 hours there and then back. My wife is 100 lbs and I am 270.

I just did not know if this was common or not. I have not seen it mentioned much.

And I just like my local Doc. I like my VA doc too, but it just seems I am in another world up there.

We are all in another world at VA - lol.

We would all like private insurance and to pick our own docs.

Finances usually play into everyone's healthcare.

Have you checked with any of your service orgs. to see if they

can provide transportation ?

Sorry Carlie

I just did not know if it was common to do that. I am not too sorry to drive 65 miles. I drove 1 1/2 hours to work both ways for most of my working life. Part of that was in Washington DC.

I am a rookie and my learning curve is a strait line!

Fee Service decides and being able to get treatment outside the VA offers its own problems. The new mileage rate should help.
