Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Hi,

The link within your post seems to provide good information. I did note however, that there wasn't a section concerning the VA "losing" documents and/or ignoring evidence.

Not my site found it by accident. I think its good for people who do thier own and have no idea how to do a claim.

Filing a claim by yourself (unless you understand how the system works) is a no no..you should be using a VSO to file for you. Then when it becomes beyond a VSO's ability.....get a va lawyer...

a lot of the stories you hear about "I've been waiting for years" was filed by the person....

Buick, then you must know some VSO's that I haven't had the pleasure to meet, YET.

I have always filed my own claims on the Vonapp application site, I have had no problem getting 60% SC, I guess it just matters where ya live.

Like you, I prefer to do things online. I also used Vonapp for my VA claim. It was adequate for completing the necessary forms, but all the substantiating documentation, including the signature page, has to be mailed via the postal system or a commercial entity such as FEDEX. I found Vonapp to be about one percent of the total process.

The fact that you had no problem getting 60 percent SC is a testament to your thoroughness. And...some VAROs seem to be more competent than others. Another factor in achieving an award is the disability itself. I do not have PTSD, but from what I've read it is much more difficult to prove a PTSD case than hearing loss for example.

I would like to see an option where all the documentation could be forwarded to the VARO electronically AND the documents they have be available to view online. Paper documents in the possession of the claimant could be converted to PDF and uploaded to a database.

Before I left academia, all our research proposals submitted to the National Science Foundation and many other Federal agencies were submitted in the manner I discussed above.

Ahhhh, but you see, Ron, therein lies the major difference(s) between academia and the VA.

Reasoning.........Efficiency........Thoughtfulness....etc.

When you are dealing with an entity which STILL, 'till this day, hands you all your records in a cardboard box, and those in NO particular order, either chronological or alphabetical....... :P

LarryJ,

Certainly, you are correct. Even the military adapted and started using electronic records in many fields more than 20 years ago.

That is absoluteky correct the Unites States Air Force had computerize purchasing and records as of late 60's.

System was called CIAPS which is an acronym for Computer Generate Automated Purchasing. Hell we had a computerize report at Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand in 1969....I hnow I was Operations Chief for the Procurement Division.

One of the othersites besides all the help from the vets on this one is, www.vawatchdog.org and founder Larry Scott and Advisor Jim Strickland are great to get back to the vets. Check out their site and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Also books by John D. Roche is what I used too as I was on my own...as Jim tells you a VSO has thousands of vets and you need to be diligent and seek all the info in your claim to be successful. I have been with them a few years now. I am also glad to have found this site while web searching.

How great we are to be able to work together to secure our most important goal..."success for vets" with the ulilization of all vets sites, and the sharing of personal experiences and information.

Too bad our politicians wouldn't work as hard and honest as we do. :P

I was reading another Vet site and one of the threads someone made a site to help show you how to file claims, research etc. Its a good site to look at.

Perhaps you can sticky this site somewhere on this site.
