Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

You need to request a letter from the VA stating you are 100% and are eligable for the Military ID card. Take the letter to the ID card section at the nearest military Post, Fort, or base. I think you have to be. You dependents 11 and older will qualify for the ID card too.

Call the 1-800-827-1000#.

You need a commissary letter they

will send it to you.

SS card for all, ID card(driver lic.).

When you go for ID ask for car stickers.

Cherie:

I live in Brevard Co., the county has a Veterans Service Officer, I looked

up the tele. # and address in the phone book. I think I took my letter

from the V A but it was not necessary because their computer system was

hooked into the VA's system. He could look up my rating.

This Veterans Officer had the State form, it has been a while, but I think he

filled out part of the form. I had to get a passport size picture. I mailed the

form and picture to the State capital.

Took a month to six weeks to get the ID card back, as best as I can remember.

I think that what we have here is a "failure to communicate".

Just exactly WHICH identification card are we talking about?

1. Are we talking about the ID card for the VA Medical system?

2. Are we talking about the "I wanna get on post and go to the PX" card?

3. Are we talking about a state-issued ID Card, or a state-issued handicapped parking card?

We needs mo info.

I believe you are inquiring about the State of Florida "Disabled Veterans ID Card" if so you need to contact a state or county VSO and they will give you the application and you then get a passport picture of yourself and mail it to Tallahassee and in less than 2 months on average you will receive the card in the mail. I have had mine since 1999, and that is how I aquired the card.

you can also take your TDIU ID card request, to any reserve training center. I know in Spokane theres one right next to the VAMC.

I don't guess Texas has such an ID card.

I know that when I went to get my disabled Vet license plates for my car, I had to take my "award" letter to the tag office and they had to certify that award letter, make copies and send one copy to Austin to the state and abt 4-5 weeks later I received my new license plates in the mail. They cost me $5, for as long as I own that particular car. And, I had to do essentially the same thing when I got my property tax wavered. I haven't gone for the hunting or fishing licenses ( I don't hunt anymore ) but I do fish when I get a chance, so I'll probably have to do the same thing as I had to do to get my license plates for my car.

It'd be a lot easier if Texas DID have a state veteran's ID card, now that I think about it.

Larry, just make up your own. Or you could go see one of the fake card operations that are in every city these days. Hell they make excellent state ID's, DL and SS cards.

Larry you don't need a Texas state Id card... that is what the drivers license is for....

You did what we all have to do, show our letter at the vehicle registration office... you receive your DAV plates (60% or more) at the same time... I don't know why you had to wait 4-5 weeks.. The do not certify anything that I know of.. never heard of this before.. in fact they did not even keep a copy of my letter.

Same for the free DV drivers license, they looked at the letter gave it back and I got the free license...

If you have DV plates they should only cost you $3.00 a year , $4.00 if you mail the renewal in....

For the fishing license take your letter to Wal-mart sporting goods counter.. and they will issue the complete fishing and hunting license ( but no federal stamps)

Take the same letter and show it at any Texas state park and get a pass for the state parks while your at it..

I dunno. I just know what I had to do. The license plate people had to make a copy, then they fooled around with it back in the back office and then came out and told me that it had to "go to Austin" and I'd get my plates in a few weeks. And, that's what happened, I got them in the mail. And, I'm pretty sure it was Five bucks.........$3 bucks, $5 bucks, whatever, it is still a pretty good deal I guess. The little gal at the license plate office was new and this was the first time she had ever done a DV plate, so that mighta been part of the deal?

I haven't tried to get the fishing license, yet. Can't get anyone to volunteer to take me fishin. Probably should buy a case of Shiner Bock, that might be incentive enough to haul me to the lake.................. B)

I have sent in copies of my award letter to the property tax folks, but haven't received anything back from them, yet. Maybe I should give 'em a call?

Y'all have to keep in mind that each state is different in what they will do for veterans, what kind of benefits they will provide. Texas is pretty good, I think?

I have had the Florida ID card for about 4 years. I haven't found one place that will give two hoots about it, except the State agencies like DL, and Department of Transportation of free SunPass (you buy transponder). IF you are T&P: TDIU or 100% to get a DD 1173 have the VA send you a commissary letter like stated before. Get form 1172 at http://images.military.com/Resources/Forms/DD_1172.pdf or at the local ID card office. You can find local office at http://www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl/owa/home Take all supporting documents as mentioned previous in thread. Proper registration in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) see http://www.tricare.mil/mybenefit/ProfileFi...ibility%2FDEERS
