    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Phone Call For Records

sbrewer

Question

Hi,

My husband got a call Friday from a lady with the adjucation and review dept. She wanted to know what date he saw a dr. at the VA..He's been going there for yrs. She wanted to know how to get his records. So, he told her to contact release of information to get his records. So, I guess he was turned down 2 times when they had no records, since they're just asking about them now. Anyway, does this mean anything...are we getting closer?

thanks,

sbrewer

This sounds a bit out of the ordinary as she certainly should know how to access a claimant's medical records that are already the property of VAMC.

I would not take this to mean you are closer to a decision.

Be sure you have ROI's signed and submitted to any place VA may need including SSA if it plays into anything.

Well, today he receives a certified letter from SS. His hearing is scheduled for August 12. Now, he has had no physicals or anything from SS. The only contact was the lady wanting to know how to get his VA records. Is this normal? We have copies of his records and are going to take them with us. He also has a letter from his cardiologist saying that he is permanently disabled with his heart. He in 100%PTIU through the VA for mental. He worked at the VA and has the phych. letter from work when he retired on disability saying he is unfit for his job.

Is there anything else that we need to take with us?

Any help is greatly appeciated.

thanks,

sbrewer

Thanks, Carlie for your response.

Actually, I was called a couple of times. I would send all evidence to DDS (if thats who has your file).

If this is your first contact with SS office take everything with you. They would only accept 17 pages but when DDS got my file they called and I mailed everything to them.

Everything you do must go to London, Kentucky to be put in the computer (paperless system)
