    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

  • Can a 100 percent Disabled Veteran Work and Earn an Income?

    employment 2.jpeg

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Carlie's advise is correct. Most of us have problems with getting a live person to deal with on our claims.

Get all of your information handy, write out a list of what you want her to hear, and call her.

Ok thanks I will do that. So this is not unusual?

call quick before he or she changes their mind!!!! At my RO the names and phone number of the most low level employee is top secret. I would hate to think what level of clearance one would have to have to know the name, number and to actually speak with a true rater. Whew I don't think I could pass the background check for such a clearance! hahahahaha

WOW -last time I talked to a "rating officer" was in 1996 and I called him -I had his desk phone number-I had asked the VA to CUE something and they did correct the error. He was shocked that I had gotten his phone number.

I have asked by mail three times so far within past year-for the DRO to call me regarding any questions they might have on my Agent Orange evidence-as DROs sometimes call claimants to clarify things-it is in their job description.

I think this is a good sign for you- and I sure have never heard of raters directly calling vets here in NY except for one vet who I helped locally with his claim. He succeeded.

She wanted to verify my adress for the award letter. But she did not mention anything else and I did not ask. Hopefully it will be good. Called her this morning.

Call and ask what the decision was. Why not? All they can say is that they don't know or can't tell you. The letter is the main thing since that is official.

Scott, do you have a VSO representative. They moist likely have an office near the RO.

Call them and track down the letter. They can read it to you.

I may have misunderstood the VA caller. He may have said, "We are going to make you a ward of the state.

What do you think?

You would be up the creek or is it down the creek!!!! The only time the states want us is when the bird drops that checkie into the bankie. Anytime before that date and normally about 10 days after that date the states are looking for some legal way to mass ship us to another state. Then about one day before the check arrives your old state will issue a letter of apology begging you to come home. Most will even promise to put AC in your old cardboard box that is still standing under the freeway bridge. Some, like good ole alabama will even offer you a 1.00 dollar discount at the local theme park, movie theater or camp ground. Hell the ole boys here in alabama will offer you a 1 or 2 pecent tax break on the ole cardboard box home if you made less than 3 grand the year before! Sometimes they will give you a free fishing permit if you lost both arms during combat!!!! Did I mention the fact that alabama sucks for veterans? I wrote the ole Gov about 2 years ago concerning the lack of incentives for disabled veterans and asked that he sponsor a bill to bring alabama in line with just some of the weaker (benefit wise) veteran states. He sent me a reply telling me what all he had done for veterans and noted that he would send my request to the big chief of alabama veterans affairs. Hell he can't sponsor any bills even if he could read and write!!!! I can see the smirk on Gov Riley's face now as he told his aid "let me show you how to get rid of a alkie veteran asking for a hand out". Morale of the story is if you be a veteran - for God's sake stay away from alabamie!!!! And if this ain't bad enough just think about VARO montgomery!!! boy oh boy - now see what you guys have done to me!!!!! you go me going - meds are making me do head stands but now I am have a damn panic attact and locked myself into my office. The spousal unit is trying to get the door open and I don't know if she wants to help me or kill me - hell it might not even be her - no telling who is after me. Oh well out the back door I go into the night to smoke a few generic cigs!!!!!
