New Scooter Arrived Today

Question

About a month ago, while riding my scooter to the local 7-11 store, I was going down a slight down grade, when the brakes locked up and tore up the drive gears. After I reported the incident to my Prothetics Dept who handles such things, they told me they had to decide if they would fix my old scooter or trade it out for a new one. After not hearing from them in a week, I called to find out what they had decided. They decided to trade out my old and damaged one for another.

I was told it would take about four to six weeks for my new scooter to arrive, yet it arrived today only about three weeks since they had given me the time table for its arrival. I had half expected it to be another used unit but newer than my old one, but it was a brand new Legend XL with a whole lot of bells and whistles on it and boy it it a pretty candy apple red.

Now I feel like getting dressed up when ever I ride it. I look out of place like a new suite and wearing tennis shoes. LoL

It's had a high and low gear, plus a power adjustment, turn signals and emergency flashers, head lamp of course, a horn although not as loud as I would want, is at least half again louder than my old unit, and the suspention is a whole lot better too. I only wished the charging unit was a part of the scooter instead of a seperate unit. I'll have to fine a way to properly carry and store the charging unit, so if need be, I won't be stuck someplace should my charge run low.

Just thought I might share this tid bit of info. The VAHA isn't all bad yet.

Congrats!

I have been fortunate that way myself. I asked them for a wheel chair and got a scooter instead. It took a couple weeks from referral to consult where I was told it would be 3 weeks but the delivery place called in about 10 days and got me set up in a few more days. Not as fancy as yours but then, I don't think my need is as great. I don't need to drive mine to the store and back. It's a Centurion II 3 wheeler. But it is candy-apple red. ;)

Halos2: Great to hear Jim. Red is the color you need. Bright and shinny. Why aren't you getting any disability? Noticed you have 0% listed, are you getting a pension instead? I hope so. Be careful and watch out sometime people can't see red cars so you might be extra careful. Enjoy buddy.

Halos2, I used to get a pension, but not I am on SSDI, which pays more. I am currently working on getting my SC fractured nasal bone increased to at least 10%, which doesn't sound like much, but every little bit helps. I'm pretty sure I will have to appeal the decision once it come in, since neither my C&P exam and IMO are very strong in my favor. Once this claim is over, I plan on working on the TBI/minor cerebral concussion that resulted from the SC fractured nasal bone injury. I have new evidence that may support Cognitive difficulties due to frontal lobe trauma and the only frontal lobe truama I have had that it could have been from was from the SC injury. I didn't play contact sports since before service and I have not been in any accidents where I had a head injury.

Wings: According to my manual for my scooter, I supposed to get 30 miles to a full charge on good batteries. Given this to mean, 30 miles on a flat surface with no head wind, I probably will only see about 15 to 20 miles. But that is more than enough for my needs. I only wished besides the charge statis meter, their was a mileage guage as well. I then could have a better idea of my actual mileage. LoL There is a small casino with a resteraunt about 5-8 miles away round trip, they have pretty good food and it would be nice to sometime ride up their sometime and not have to waite until I go into town to eat something besides my own cooking. I used to be a pretty fair cook, but now with limited funds, I can't keep all the spices or make all the sauses that I use to have to make certain foods taste better. Now I pretty much limited to just a few of them and I can't always have the choice on what I want to eat, so a lot of times my food now is, although edible, is pretty bland. Eating out once or twice a month is a great treat for me.

Maybe when my own electric chair finally breaks down and I can not afford to fix it, they will finally trade me up to a electric wheelchair. My scooter is just to big for the Access Vans and City Buses to ride on them. Having to depend on these sources of transportation all the time, a electric wheelchair would sure make better scence.

a.k.a. Jim ;)
