They have a VACOLS screen- for the status of any claim on appeal. The Covers screen gives the physical presense of the files.

Sometimes the screens give much info -other times they dont or the 800 person doesnt understand them.

Sometimes if you ask the 800s for any codes on the screen you can determine more- they have internal codes they use.

IRIS is a much better way- with the ability to get hard copy- to find out a little more about your claim.

Some reps I have heard say they have access to the VA PCs, others, the last rep I had said others on my POA could" peek over shoulders" at the RO to see what they say-

In any event the PCs are often far behind what is actually going on with the claim.

A brief and specific question via Iris might bring you some accurate info.

I believe this to be an interdepartmental way of where and what is going on with the claim such as Target and Birls. hope this helps
