I am not a suicide risk but I am 100% Service Connected for Panic Disorder and Major Depression. I asked in early May for an appointment with a VA Shrink and begrudgingly I was given one for August 7th which I just got a letter that says was changed to October 10th or a 5 month wait and no guarantee that will be honored either.

I am considering filing a complaint to Congressman Filner who seems to be at least concerned at how the VA is treating Veterans.

Pete53: First off, I don't know how they justify you going that long without checking to make sure your medications are working or that some of your medications perscription time have not run out. My understanding is they are required to set an appointment within a specific period once your perscription time limit has expired. So that the Dr can make sure you are getting the proper dosage and your needs are being met.

When I found out I had not been assigned a new psychiatrist and PCP Dr, my psychiatrist went on maternity leave and my PCP Dr quit, I let it be known I was quite upset and was more upset when they tried to set me up with a male psychiatrist, when they knew I had problem with males. I guess they felt they had better get me seen, at least by a psychiatrist, since I am still waiting to even be assigned a new PCP Dr. If they try to renew my meds without seeing a Dr. I will not only complain to the patient rep, but to the AMA and pharmicuticle licening board for the State of NV. Even if the VH system isn't accountable to these agencies, I think they will want to know what is going on there.

Thirty days is to long as it is for some of us. In the past, I usually could just walk in and wait to be seen by my Dr or psychiatrist. even if there was no way they could see me, I usually got an appointment within a short period of time. Now I don't know, things have changed dramaticaly and I don't know where I or other patients who have mental issues stand.

It's not right and I don't see why the courts can't help us. If our politicians can't or won't, then what is left for us to do. talk about second class citizens, illegal alians have more rights than we do, hell even murders and rapists and child pornographers and pedifiles have more rights than we do.
