For the entire initial rating appeal period, the criteria for

a higher (compensable) disability rating for service-

connected patellofemoral syndrome of the right knee have not

been met. 38 U.S.C.A. §§ 1155, 5103(a), 5103A, 5107(b) (West

2002);

38 C.F.R. §§ 3.102, 3.159, 4.1-4.14, 4.40, 4.45, 4.71, 4.71a,

Diagnostic Codes (DCs) 5003, 5010, 5024, 5256, 5257, 5258,

5260, 5261 (2007).

Which diagnosis code would patellofemoral syndrome fall in?

Nashville puts it under dx code 5257. I wouldn't expect a rating higher than 10% for each knee on this condition. I have had 10% for each knee (patellafemoral syndrome) since 1994, and it still didn't change even though I had MRI evidence of a torn meniscus, a buckled PCL, severe medial compartmental chondromalacia (arthritis), and severly diminished rom's in both knees. Not to mention that I have ortho docs at Mountain Home wanting to do a total knee replacement.

5257 Knee, other impairment of:

Recurrent subluxation or lateral instability:

Severe 30

Moderate 20

Slight 10
